About Myself

  • I am a Bulbapedia user from Florida, USA, aged 30 who has played every generation since Gen I. Well, except for Gen V – while I appreciate the plot in BW, that was a poorly conceieved generation overall with a lot of flimsily designed species.
  • I am only a fan of the primary canon of Pokémon games.
  • I do not support or engage in Poké-shipping.

[Note: In the following section, lower numbers indicate higher preference for that enumerated item.]

  • favorite Pokémon:
    • 1: Lucario - Has satisfactory Speed and a diverse movepool with exceptional moves for Offense. Dark Pulse and Aura Sphere complete the wonderful package!
    • 2: Sceptile - Finally! Here comes a phenomenal Grass-type for speedy Offense.
    • 3: Venasaur - Has a diverse movepool with exceptional Support moves.
    • 4: Vigoroth
  • favorite types:
    • 1: Grass - Thankfully, Generation IV was very generous with this type.
    • 2: Fighting - Poliwrath, Blaziken (and its carbon copy Infernape), Breloom, Gallade, and Lucario as well as the increased availability of TM31 Brick Break (for Electabuzz, Ampharos, Magmar, various normal types, etc.) in Generation III made this type worthwhile additons to my teams. Alas, if only Donphan and Granbull could join their ranks! (see "IF ONLY, IF ONLY").
  • favorite moves:
    • 1: Aura Sphere
    • 2: Leaf Blade
    • 3: Brick Break
    • 4: Dark Void
    • 5: Fire Punch / Ice Punch / Thunder Punch

Changes to Battle Mechanics & Abilities

  • The ability to learn Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Toxic, Focus Blast, or Earthquake via TM should be much more limited.
  • While Rain Dance or rain is in effect, the base damage of Water-type AND Electric-type moves will be increased by 50% 30%.
  • Normal-type is no longer immune to Ghost-type but does resist Fairy-type.
  • Electric-type is now super-effective against Steel-type.
  • While Ground-type remains immune to Electric-type, Rock-type is now resistant to Electric-type.
  • Rock-type is now resistant to Dragon-type.
  • Bug-type Pokémon are now immune to Fairy and Ghost-type moves. Bug-type Pokémon now take neutral damage from Fighting and Ground-type moves and resist Physic (Psychic) and Scourge (Dark) type moves.
  • Fighting-type is no longer super-effective against Steel-type or Ice-type, inflicting only normal-damage (×1) against either type.
  • Rock-type is no longer super-effective against Ice-type. Rock-type moves inflict normal-damage (×1) against Ice-type targets.
  • Now Water-type only inflicts normal damage (×1) against Ground-type, ie Water-type is no longer super-effective against Ground-type.
  • Now Grass-type only inflicts normal damage (×1) against Rock-type, ie Grass-type is no longer super-effective against Rock-type.
  • Steel-type is now super-effective against Grass-type.
  • Poison-type is now super-effective against Water-type and Ground-type as well as Grass-type.
  • Both Psychic-type and Fire-type moves are now super-effective against Fairy-type targets. Meanwhile, Steel-type still resists Fairy-type but is no longer super-effective against Fairy-type. Steel-type is now immune to Fairy-type and remains super-effective against Fairy-type.
  • Now Ice-type and Grass-type targets in addition to Fire-type and Poison-type targets are resistant to Fairy-type moves.
  • Fighting-type and Bug-type no longer resist one another, now only inflicting normal-damage (×1) against each other.
  • Ice-type Pokémon should now resist Bug, Grass, Ground, and Water-type moves. Ice-type Pokémon now take neutral damage from Ground and Rock-type moves.
  • STAB is reduced from a ×1.5 multiplier to a ×1.33 multiplier.
  • Type-order now matters: whether a type first or second affects resistance (but not STAB). For a given Pokémon, the type listed first reduces damages from a weaker-type by two-thirds (×0.33) while the type listed second reduces damages from a weaker-type by a third (×0.66). An attack that is weak against both of the target's types inflicts 1 HP in damage. (The in-battle text will read "Attack inflicted negligible damage.")
  • In addition to immunity against most Ground-type moves and most entry hazards, Levitate also provides Pokémon with this ability immunity to the effects – positive or negative – of any terrain currently active on the field.
  • Fond of sweet delicacies, a new NPC named Pokémon Whisperer allows players to change the ability of a select Pokémon to its Hidden Ability in exchange for a regional specialty: Pewter Crunchies, Rage Candy Bar, Lava Cookie, Old Gateau, Casteliacone, Lumiose Galette, Shalour Sable, or Big Malasada
  • Sheer Force is now the Fighting-type equivalent of Aerilate, Pixilate, etc: Sheer Force causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Fighting-type and receive a 30% base power boost in addition to all other modifiers, such as STAB.
  • Steelworker is now now a Steel-type variation (not equivalent) of Aerilate, Pixilate, etc: Steelworker causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Steel-type and receive a 30% base power boost in addition to all other modifiers, such as STAB. Moves that are already Steel-type also receive a 30% base power boost regardless of the user's type (not stackable if STAB already applies for user).
  • During harsh sunlight, a Pokémon with ability Solar Power gains a 1.25× boost to its Special Attack AND RECOVERS one-eighth (⅛) of its maximum HP at the end of each turn.
  • Illuminate now has in-battle effects: a Pokémon on the field with this Ability will grant a 30% boost to the original accuracy of moves by all allies AND reduce the original accuracy of moves by all foes by 30%. It will also prevent foes from using the abilities Compound Eyes, Keen Eye, or Tinted Lens while a Pokémon with this ability remains in battle. (The accuracy boost from Illuminate does not stack upon the accuracy boost from Compound Eyes by allies.)
  • Magnet Pull prevents Steel-type foes from fleeing (including Teleport) or switching out as long as the user remains in battle. As an additional effect, this ability redirects all Steel-type moves used by foes to target the Pokémon with this Ability: if the move is a physical move, the Pokémon with this Ability absorbs the attack and its Defense is raised one stage; if the move is a special move, the Pokémon with this Ability absorbs the attack and its Special Attack is raised one stage.
  • Wonder Guard now allows a Pokémon with this ability (namely Shedinja) to automatically copy the max HP of an opponent for the remainder of the battle (HP will only reset after end of battle). Upon joining a double/triple/etc battle, the Pokémon with this ability copies the higher HP of adjacent opponents. Wonder Guard also retains its original effect: a Pokémon with this ability is immune to damage from attacks that are not super effective.
  • Flash Fire makes a Pokémon with this ability AND its allies on the field immune to damage from Fire-type attacks. Furthermore, in lieu of suffering damage, a Pokémon with this ability receives a one-stage boost to its Attack if targeted by a physical Fire-type attack or one-stage boost to its Special Attack if targeted by a special Fire-type attack. Furthermore, once activated, the terrain becomes Scorched Earth as long as the Pokémon with this ability remains on the field.
  • Aura and pulse moves (which gain an base power boost from the ability Mega Launcher) and ball and bomb moves (which are negated by the ability Bulletproof) are now part of the same category of moves, ie all these moves gain a base power boost from the ability Mega Launcher but are negated by the ability Bulletproof.
  • In addition to a speed boost during a hailstorm, Pokémon on the field with the Ability Slush Rush become immune to damage from hail regardless of said Pokémon's type.
  • A new ability named Stealthy allows the Pokémon with this ability to avoid entry hazards, including Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Sticky Web.
  • As an additional effect, Infiltrator also allows Pokémon with this ability to avoid entry hazards, including Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Sticky Web.
  • Liquid Ooze causes HP-draining moves used on the Pokémon with this Ability to damage their user instead of healing them. But as a secondary effect, this ability also clears entry hazards after coming into contact with and inflicting damage to a Pokémon with this Ability.
  • As an additional effect, Pokémon with the abilities Compound Eyes and Keen Eye can bypass an opponent's Substitute to attack the target directly.
  • When a Pokémon with the ability Aftermath is knocked out by an opponent's attack – whether it makes contact or not – damage is dealt to that opponent equal to the amount of HP the fainted Pokémon had left before last being hit or equal to ⅓ of the opponent's maximum HP, whichever is greater. (Innards Out is no more!)
  • The ability Flower Gift increases the Attack and Special Defense stats of the Pokémon with this Ability and its allies by 1.5× regardless of the weather, so long as the Pokémon with this ability remains on the field.
  • The ability Intimidate lowers the Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by half. Another new counterpart ability, Dazzle, lowers the Special Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by half.
  • In addition to lowering the Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by two stages, the ability Intimidate prevents an opponent from using a priority move (including moves boosted by Prankster, Gale Wings or Triage) against a Pokémon with this ability or its allies. Another new counterpart ability, Dazzle, has all the same effects but instead lowers the Special Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by two stages.
  • The effects of Sticky Hold and Gooey are combined into a single ability, an improved Sticky Hold. All prior instances of Gooey become Sticky Hold.
  • The effects of Magma Armor and Flame Body are combined into a single ability, an improved Flame Body. All prior instances of Magma Armor become Flame Body.
    • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with this improved Flame Body is immune to burns.
    • But as a secondary effect, this improved ability also clears entry hazards after coming into contact with and inflicting damage to a Pokémon with this Ability. eg, in-battle message: Spikes got caught in Magcargo's Flame Body!
    • In short, this improved Flame Body inflicts burn status to opponents upon contact (30% chance), prevents freezing for Pokémon with this Ability, AND clears entry hazards.
  • The effects of Vital Spirit and Moxie are combined into a single ability, an improved Vital Spirit. All prior instances of Moxie become Vital Spirit.
  • The effects of Limber and Steadfast are combined into a single ability, an improved Limber. All prior instances of Steadfast become Limber.
  • The effects of Own Tempo and Inner Focus are combined into a single ability, an improved Own Tempo.
  • The effects of Stench and Aroma Veil are combined into a single ability, an improved Stench.
  • The in-battle and overworld effects of Poison Point and Poison Touch are combined into a single ability, an improved Poison Point.
  • Whereas Huge Power doubles the Attack stat of the Pokémon with this Ability, Pure Power now doubles the Special Attack stat of the Pokémon with that Ability.
  • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with the ability Motor Drive may use Moves that require recharging without resting the following turn.
  • Pokémon with the ability Motor Drive may use Electric-type moves with +1 priority so long as their HP remains at 30% or greater.
  • Gale Wings grants +1 priority for all Flying-type moves used by a Pokémon with this ability and grants a 20% power boost to Flying-type attacks used by said Pokémon, if applicable.
  • Pokémon with the ability Gale Wings may use any Flying-type move with +1 priority so long as their HP remains at 30% or greater.
  • 'As an additional effect, a Pokémon with Dry Skin is also immune to residual damage from sandstorm each turn.
  • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with the ability Sap Sipper (Herbivorous) regains 1/16 of its maximum HP at the end of each turn while Grassy Terrain remains in effect.
  • As an additional effect, Fur Coat negates the passive damage or added effects from abilities that react to contact.
  • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with the ability Pressure is immune to non-damaging effects from the moves Gravity, Magnet Rise, Telekinesis, Smack Down, Sure Shot, and Thousand Arrows.
  • Hyper Cutter is renamed Vorpal Cutter. This ability now prevents a Pokémon with this ability from having its Attack lowered, whether by an opponent's move or its own.
  • NEW ABILITY: Full Metal Sound causes all sound-based moves used by a Pokémon to become Steel-type and confers STAB damage, if applicable for the user. Furthermore, a Pokémon with this ability becomes immune to all non-Steel-type non-damaging [[[status move|status]] sound-based moves.
  • NEW ABILITY: Aegis Vorpal Guard prevents a Pokémon with this ability from having its Defense AND Special Defense lowered, whether by an opponent's move or its own.
  • REVAMPED During double / triple battles, etc, if a Pokémon with Symbiosis has a held item, it also copies the effects of that item (but not the item itself) onto an ally or allies on the field once said item is consumed
  • NEW ABILITY: Slick reduces the final calculated damage received from physical attacks by 25% half. Critical hits that target a Pokémon with this Ability inflict normal damage.
  • The ability Run Away should be renamed Nimble.
  • NEW ABILITY: Nocturnal replaces Insomnia – ie, all prior instances of Insomnia become Nocturnal. Nocturnal prevents the Pokémon with this ability from being afflicted by sleep by an opponent's moves, including Yawn; however, this Pokémon may still use Rest, unlike Pokémon with the ability Vital Spirit. Pokémon with Nocturnal also receive a STAB-boost for using Ghost or Dark-type attacks, regardless of the user's own type.
  • NEW ABILITY: The move Echoed Voice should be renamed Crescendo but a new ability Echoed Voice (Amplify?) grants a 30% boost to the base accuracy as well as 20% boost to the base power of sound-based moves used by this ability.
  • NEW ABILITY: Ravenous allows the Pokémon with this ability to copy the effects of an item consumed by an ally in the same or immediately previous turn. If more than one item was consumed by more than one ally, all effects may be copied.
  • NEW ABILITY: Juggernaut reduces the multiplier of super-effective damaging moves targeting a Pokémon with this ability to ×1 (normal damage). A Pokémon with Juggernaut clears the field of opposing entry hazards after receiving damage from said entry hazards upon entering battle.
  • NEW ABILITY: Stolid (Dauntless?) reduces the final calculated damage from Dark-type moves used against a Pokémon with this ability by half. Any Dark-type status moves targeting a Pokémon with this ability will fail.
  • The original ability Moody is no more! Instead, Moody becomes the new name for the ability Contrary.
  • The original ability Unaware is renamed Insouciant.
  • NEW ABILITY: Cavalier takes on the same effects as the original ability Simple. (The original ability Simple is no more!)
  • NEW ABILITY: Daredevil is now a copy of Simple – ie, the number of stages that a stat is increased or decreased by a move, Ability, or item is doubled for a Pokémon with this ability.
  • NEW ABILITY: Maverick is now a copy of Unaware – ie, if a Pokémon with this Ability uses a damaging move or is targeted by a damaging move, the other Pokémon's stat stages are ignored during damage and accuracy calculation.
  • NEW ABILITY: Dauntless
  • NEW WEATHER TYPE: Thunderstorm, a variation of rain. During a thunderstorm, each turn there is a 12.5% (⅛) chance that any Pokémon in battle may be struck by Thunderbolt from the environment; Steel-type Pokémon on the field will have a 25% (¼) chance of being struck. Pokémon on the field with ability Lightning Rod will attract Thunderbolt every time (multiple Pokémon on the field with this ability will share the probability of getting struck among themselves).

Using Thunder during rain will generate a Thunderstorm for as long as the rain lasts – ie, A thunderstorm rolled in with the call of Thunder!

  • Moon Balls have a 4× catch rate modifier when used against wild Fairy-type Pokémon or on a wild Pokémon from an evolutionary family that includes a Pokémon which evolves using a Moon Stone.
  • The Grass-type-type is known now as Botan.
  • The Dark-type-type is known now as Umbra Scourge.
  • The Steel-type-type is known now as Metal.
  • The Psychic-type-type is known now as Physic, alluding to the ability to manipulate physical forces as well as physical space and time.

Revamped Type Chart According to AceTrainerAlvaro

UNDER CONSTRUCTION Please refer to Changes to Battle Mechanics & Abilities section for my latest changes.

Main article: Type/Type chart

Type-order now matters: whether a type first or second affects resistance (but not STAB). For a given Pokémon, the type listed first reduces damages from a weaker-type by two-thirds (×0.33) while the type listed second reduces damages from a weaker-type by a third (×0.66). An attack that is weak against both of the target's types inflicts 1 HP in damage. (The in-battle text will read "Attack inflicted negligible damage.") A complete ineffectiveness against either type will still make the move deal no damage, since 0 multiplied by any number is 0. Also, STAB is reduced from a ×1.5 multiplier to a ×1.33 multiplier.

In Inverse Battles, a different type chart is used that essentially inverts the normal type chart, turning immunities and resistances into weaknesses, and weaknesses into resistances.

Rising Badge

  • During your first battle against Falkner, a Farfetch'd with the ability Defiant and the move Roost (acquired via TM) will be his signature Pokémon in lieu of an under-levelled Pidgeotto.
  • In addition to reshuffled or updated Gym Leaders, several changes have happened to the layout & names of cities across the rebooted Johto:
    • Cherrygrove City has replaced the location of New Bark Town at the foot of Tohjo Falls, becoming the player's new hometown. Cherrygrove City now boasts an observation deck built onto a hill at the city's northernmost point, similar to (the former) Aspertia City. Looking through a pair of binoculars there, the player alludes to a a distance snowy mountain in the distance.
    • Your new hometown also features a Pokémon Center and PokéMart.
    • The land occupied by the former Cherrygrove City has become the Berry Collective, an extenson of Route 29 where the Berry-growing enthusiasts work and reside alongside a large garden similar to the Berry Master's garden located on Hoenn Route 123. The Berry Collective house is also a rest stop for trainers to heal their teams.
    • Route 30, Route 31, and Route 46 have become part of a rugged canyon (named Fennel Canyon) with fewer trees & more boulders and cliffs, as well as places to use Rock Smash to break rocks or Rock Climb to scale slopes. You cannot fully navigate Route 30 or Route 31 during your first approach.
    • Violet City has been replaced by Lacunosa Town, An oasis cut into canyon rock along Fennel Canyon. This town still has exits out onto Route 31, Route 32, and Route 36.
    • Marshal is now the Gym Leader of Lacunosa Town…but won't be available during your first visit, as his Battle Girl girlfriend will inform you when you first arrive to challenge him. He'll be off training deep in Mt. Mortar, requiring a SIDE QUEST for players to find him there after acquiring access to Strength outside of battle. Defeating Marshal will also grant access to Rock Climb outside of battle.
    • Marshal's hometown is actually called Majolica Town, but the layout is based on Lacunosa Town. (Or should Sandgem Town be renamed Majolica Town?)
    • You cannot fully navigate Route 32 during your first approach as the north half of the coastal route now features slopes, cliffs, & small caves only accessible by Rock Climb. These cliffs and small caves might hold Fossils, or Shoal Shells that can be used by the Treasure Hunter in Driftveil City to craft a Shell Bell.
    • Union Cave now holds Shoal Salts that can be used by the Treasure Hunter in Driftveil City to craft a Shell Bell, as well as (randomly regenerated) Heart Scales to trade for the expertise of the Move Reminder (now found in Olivine City).
    • The small strip formerly known as Route 33 is now considered the tail-end of Route 32. Instead, Route 33 will refer to a trainer-filled sea route navigable by Surf leading back to the Berry Farm on Route 29. An offshore wind farm is seen in the background along the route!
    • Cilan, Chili, and Cress run a Battle Café in Goldenrod City allowing for a Multi Battle/Battle Royal(?) once per day. In fact, during your first visit to Goldenrod City, you will be required to team up alongside Marley against the restaurateur brothers (and win) before Marley agrees to accept your challenge to a gym battle.
    • The eastern half of Route 36 will be rugged and craggy from the rock faces of Fennel Canyon. The "Cut-able tree" at the center of the route has been replaced by a "smashable rock" as a roadblock. Defeating Gym Leader Marley in Goldenrod City will allow players to use Rock Smash outside of battle to clear the path.
    • Route 38 and Route 39 now feature much more rugged terrain with tall karst formations and irrigated paddy fields inspired by Wulingyuan, otherwise the Forest of Ten Thousands Peaks. There is also a river navigable by Surf requiring Waterfall to reach a ledge high above. This area will be known as Forina Valley.
    • Moomoo Farm has been relocated from Johto Route 39 to Kanto Route 13, just north of the infamous "maze of fences".
    • Cianwood City has been replaced by Driftveil City, a City of billowing sails where nostalgia for old traditions meets the gossip of new currents. Sprout Tower is also located here, with the top floors repurposed as Falkner's gym.
    • The tall grass in Kanto Route 6, Kanto Route 7, and [[Kanto Route 11] has become marshy areas, similar to sandstorm.
    • Kanto Route 3 now includes an Ace Trainer or Triathlete named Ben who mentions, "I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear while I train!"
    • Kanto Route 8 now features more boulders and cliffs, as well as places to use Rock Smash to break rocks or Rock Climb to scale slopes.
    • The south side of Kanto Route 15 now opens onto a beach straddling a strip of navigable water. The north side now features more boulders and cliffs, as well as places to use Rock Smash to break rocks or Rock Climb to scale slopes.
  • Cinnabar Island now takes on the layout of Humilau City. The island's volcano has since collapsed into Cinnabar Caldera, a separate landmass just south of Cinnabar Island that is reachable by Surf and features wild Pokémon migrating from other regions.
  • Route 41 will comprise a much larger area and the Whirl Islands will also be more prominent islands in their own right, each featuring a different enclosed microclimate above-ground.
    • Speciation offers many surprises on islands in particular so the four Whirl Islands will have something to offer: different sets of rare berries to find hidden in the ground, a much higher rate of finding Shiny Pokémon (4× as likely), and different sets of wild Pokémon across four different environments
    • A) the four different environments are swamp (generally Poison, Ground, Ghost, and Dark-type); volcanic hot springs (generally Fire, Water, and Dragon); windswept rock outcroppings (generally Rock, Steel, and Flying-type); and flower meadow (generally Grass, Bug, Normal, and Fairy-type).
    • B) each island will feature wild Pokémon from a different region: Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kalos, or Alola.
  • Weather conditions – usually harsh sunlight or rain – vary across across many Johto and Kanto routes.
    • Route 35, Route 34, and Route 32 have a 50% chance of clear weather, 25% chance of harsh sunlight, or 25% chance of rain during each visit.
    • Route 37 and Route 42 in particular have a 50% chance of fog during each visit. Route 37 will always be foggy during your first visit as a sort of introduction to Ecruteak City.
    • Route 38 and Route 39 in particular have a 25% chance each of experiencing rain, thunderstorms, fog, or clear weather during each visit.
    • Route 41 has a 50% chance of clear weather, 25% chance of rain, or 25% chance of thunderstorms during each visit.
    • The same rain and flooding patterns from Generation IV persist at Gyarados Lake.
    • Route 45 and Route 46 in particular have a 50% chance each of experiencing sandstorms, 25% chance of rain, or 25% chance of clear weather during each visit. These routes will experience the same weather changes simultaneously (ie, you won't get rain on one route, followed by a sandstorm on the next route).
    • Kanto Route 26 has a 25% chance each of experiencing rain, thunderstorms, sandstorms, or clear weather during each visit.
    • Kanto Route 3 and Kanto Route 4 will always feature Misty Terrain at night that will be present throughout battles in these areas.
    • Kanto Route 24 and Kanto Route 25 offers a 25% chance each of rain, fog, harsh sunlight, or clear weather during each visit. These routes will experience the same weather changes simultaneously (ie, you won't get rain on one route, followed by a fog the next route).
    • Kanto Route 17 (Kanto's Cycling Road) is now a bridge elevated over the bay and will always feature Tailwind that will be present throughout battles in this area.
    • Kanto Route 8 and Kanto Route 9 in particular have a 50% chance of fog, 25% chance of rain, and 25% chance of clear weather during each visit. Route 9 will always be foggy during your first visit.
    • Kanto Route 28 and the base/exterior of Mt. Silver will typically be shrouded by fog 50% of the time and by hail 25% of the time (otherwise clear weather 25% of the time).
    • Heavy snowfall is present at the summit of Mt. Silver.
  • SIDE QUEST When walking along Route 31 for the first time, Elite Four member Karen OR Gym Leader Jasmine will be seen blocking the entrance to Dark Cave. Return after gaining access to Rock Smash outside of battle to "join" Karen OR Jasmine in search of a rare Sableye OR Mawile, respectively (by "joining" you will guide them through Dark Cave and actually be allowed to play as either of these characters in-battle to catch Sableye/Mawile).
  • SIDE QUEST A trio of Dragonair have replaced Ampharos at Glitter Lighthouse. With one having fallen ill, Jasmine requests that you acquire a medicinal recipe from Falkner in Driftveil City across the bay before she accepts your challenge to a Gym Battle.
  • SIDE QUEST Find Marshal in Mt. Mortar to challenge him to a Gym Battle. His Battle Girl girlfriend can't reach him tucked deep in the mountain ("No signal") to confirm that his newly redesigned gym is ready for challengers. Deliver her Letter to him to convince him to wrap up his training and return.
  • SIDE QUEST The Ruins of Alph are "Closed for Excavations" until you earn your sixth badge from Marshal.

  • In addition to reshuffled or updated Gym Leaders, several changes have happened to the layout and names of cities and routes across the rebooted Sinnoh:
    • The player's hometown is now Oreburgh City where Roark is a childhood friend and newly minted Gym Leader.
    • Jubilife City has been replaced by Hearthome City. In addition to Alder's new gym, this is also where Professor Rowan now maintains his lab.
    • Veilstone City has been replaced by Virbank City, complete with the gasoline processing facilities seen in B2W2 replacing the Team Galactic HQ.
    • The former location of Hearthome City is now occupied by Village Bridge, which has also been renamed Canalave City. This city has no Gym but serves as a rest stop for trainers. However, the Pokémon Fan Club and the Poffin House are located here. The Super Contest arena has also been constructed on along the river bank. An entrace to Amity Square is located in the north-eastern corner of town.
    • Solaceon Town is no more, its wilderness incorporated into Route 209, but the Pokémon Day Care and Solaceon Ruins remain intact.
    • Sunyshore City has been renamed as Nimbasa City and now also features a Big Stadium and Small Court.
    • Route 222 is now also known by the locals as Belo Horizonte Beach.
    • After winning the Beacon Badge from Elesa in your fourth Gym Battle, players gain access to HM Surf, opening up travel to Pastoria City or Castelia City in the far southwest corner of Sinnoh (southwest of what was once Twinleaf Town). As such, either Gardenia or Byron can be challenged next.
    • To reach Pastoria City through Route 213, players must now use HM Surf to travel along mangroves at the southwestern edge of the route.
    • Route 218 should offer a longer path for crossing with HM03 Surf.
  • The Resort Desert is now located on Sinnoh Route 229 as an expansive desert area featuring a raging sandstorm. The Resort Area to the immediate south is now known as the Oasis Resort Undella Oasis Resort. Cynthia can be found relaxing in a house here. Misty, Flannery, Winona, and Jasmine occasionally visit her and offer to battle the player. (During each encounter, their Pokémon will copy the level of highest leveled Pokémon in the player's party.)
  • Route 230 now includes an opening along its south reef of rocks leading to Undella Bay and the Abyssal Ruins.

  • Iris, the daughter of Alder and Aloe will be your rival throughout your Sinnoh journey, replacing Barry's original appearances.
    • SIDE QUEST Iris will replace Mira's appearance at Wayward Cave. You can accompany her on a journey to capture an elusive Gible. This side quest is no longer available after reaching the Sinnoh's Victory Road for the first time.
    • Iris will get ahead of you to become Sinnoh's latest Champion, replacing Cynthia.
  • Cynthia's team now features an Umbreon (revamped as a Fairy-type) in lieu of Lucario. It is suggested that she also has an Espeon (abandoned by Cyrus).

New Moves

Dust Devil (Tolvanera in Spanish) is a damage-dealing Ground-type move. It inflicts damage as a special move if the user's Special Attack base stat is greater; otherwise, it inflicts damage as a physical move (if the user's Attack base stat is greater). It inflicts damage as a special move using the user's Attack base stat. Dust Devil inflicts damage and has a 25% chance of causing the target to flinch.

Dust Devil can hit targets during the semi-invulnerable turn of Bounce, Fly, and Sky Drop; if it does, this move will inflict double damage.

Charm Offense is a damage-dealing Fairy-type move. It inflicts damage as a physical move if the user's Attack base stat is greater; otherwise, it inflicts damage as a special move (if the user's Special Attack base stat is greater). Charm Offense inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of lowering the target's accuracy by one stage. Charm Offense hits a single target at a time.

Ground-type Sand Pit' prevents all grounded foes from fleeing (including Teleport) or switching out as long as the user remains in battle. Using Baton Pass, U-turn, Volt Switch, or Parting Shot will fail upon use but Teleport may still be used. Holding a Smoke Ball or Shed Shell allows the Pokémon to flee or Teleport, but not switch. Ghost-type and Flying-type Pokémon as well as Pokémon with the abilities Levitate or Run Away are unaffected.

If a wild Pokémon uses Sand Pit and the player's Pokémon faints, the move no longer bind the player to battle should the player attempt to flee instead of sending out another Pokémon.

Sand Pit does not affect allies.

When Ghost-type status move Fog Call is used, fog will roll over the field. This effect will last for 5 turns. This overrides any other previous type of weather.

While this move is in effect, the Accuracy of all Pokémon battling – EXCEPT Ghost-type and Flying-type Pokémon – is multiplied by 75% (ie, reduced by 25%). Also, the base power of Ghost-type and Flying-type moves will be increased by 25%. Furthermore:

Fire-type status move Scorched Earth creates terrain that envelops the field and replaces the background environment and any other terrain that is already in effect. The terrain fades after five turns.

While in effect, this terrain has the following effects on Pokémon that are on the ground and not in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move:

  • the base damage of Water-, Grass-, AND Bug-type moves will be halved (DECREASED by 50%)
  • at the end of each turn, this terrain restores the HP of any and all Pokémon with the abilities Flame Body (yes, that includes Magma Armor), Flash Fire, White Smoke, Drought, Desolate Land, or Flare Boost by ⅛ of its maximum HP.
  • any instance of Ingrain that remains active will end and further attempts to use the move will fail – eg, in-battle message: Scorched Earth burned through Cacturne's Ingrain!

If Scorched Earth is in effect, Nature Power becomes Flamethrower; Secret Power uses the animation of Incinerate and has a 30% chance of inflicting a burn; while Camouflage causes the user to become Fire-type. Natural objects disappear while is in effect. The weather-modifying moves Rain Dance, Sandstorm, Hail, or Fog Call will cause Scorched Earth to end; however, Scorched Earth can be stacked with Sunny Day or the ability Drought to generate extremely harsh sunlight.

Water-type status move Tidal Surge creates terrain that envelops the field and replaces the background environment and any other terrain that is already in effect. The terrain fades after five turns.

While in effect, this terrain has the following effects on Pokémon that are on the ground and not in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move:

If Tidal Surge is in effect, Nature Power becomes Surf; Secret Power uses the animation of Hydro Pump and has a 30% chance of inflicting a burn; while Camouflage causes the user to become Water-type. Natural objects disappear while is in effect. The weather-modifying moves Sunny Day, Sandstorm, Hail, or Fog Call will cause Tidal Surge to end; however, Tidal Surge can be stacked with Rain Dance or the ability Drizzle to generate heavy rain.

Grass-type Thorn Whip is Roserade's new signature move. Thorn Whip inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. Provided that the move does not miss, it will hit 3 times on average, giving it an average power of 30. Each strike made has an equal chance to be a critical hit. Pokémon with the Ability Skill Link will always hit five times when using Thorn Whip unless it misses. As a physical move, Thorn Whip is affected by Counter rather than Mirror Coat.

Thorn Whip may continue attacking after breaking a substitute. Bide and Mirror Coat will only acknowledge the last strike of this move. If a Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activates before the last strike is dealt, the following strike will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. A Focus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent of the previous one.

If the user is holding a King's Rock or Razor Fang, each consecutive hit has an equal chance to cause the opponent to flinch. If the target has Weak Armor, each strike will activate it.

Dance Macabre randomly raises two stats – Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed, or Accuracy – of the user or any other Pokémon on the field by one stage for each use. However, should the user of this move faint in the same turn, the original target of Macabre Dance this turn will also faint at the end of the turn.

Normal-type Echo Wave is a sound-based move that inflicts a random amount of damage, varying between 0.5× and 1.5× 2× the user's level. The damage is always rounded down; however, Echo Wave will always deal at least 1 HP of damage.

Lava Bomb is a  Fire-type  physical move that inflicts a random amount of damage, varying between 0.5× and 2× the user's level. The damage is always rounded down; however, Lava Bomb will always deal at least 1 HP of damage. Lava Bomb is blocked by the ability Bulletproof.

An empty cell indicates a Pokémon that is unavailable in that game/generation.

Water-type Vapor Therapy Vapor Therapy cures the user, all Pokémon in the user's party, and the user's allies, of all status conditions (sleep, poison, paralysis, freeze, and burn).

Phoenix Ascent (or Fire Rebirth?) is a two-turn Fire-type status move that resets all the user's stat stages (positive and negative) to 0, fully restores the user's HP (but not PP), as well as removes all status conditions…after an initial turn when the user is semi-invulnerable.

    • turn 1, in-battle message: A mystical fire seems to consume [user]!
    • turn 2, in-battle message: [user] rises from the ashes, renewed!

The user sent out at the end of the second turn after all other Pokémon have moved.

Flame Rite is a non-damaging Fire-type status move that restores up to 50% of the user's maximum HP and then causes the user to discard its Fire-type for three turns until the user switches out of battle. Flame Rite fails if the user isn't Fire-type, which means the move will always fail after the first use until the Pokémon regains its Fire-type – eg, by switching out, using the move Reflect Type, or through an ability like Protean. If the user is a pure Fire-type Pokémon, it will become typeless be treated as Normal-type until further notice.

Flame Rite will also thaw out the user if is frozen upon using this move; however, this move cannot thaw out the user if the move would fail due to the user losing its Fire-type.

Temper is a non-damaging Fire-type status move that "applies heat" to raise the Attack stat and Defense stat of the user or an adjacent ally by one stage each.

If the target ally is Steel-type, their Attack stat and Defense stats are instead boosted two stages each. This move will fail if used on an ally that is Botan-type (Grass-type), Ice-type, Water-type, or Bug-type.

Steel-type Quicksilver launches a volley of metal pellets to inflict physical damage (base power 80). It has a priority of +1, so is used before all moves that do not have increased priority.

This move can also hit the target during the semi-invulnerable turn of Fly, Sky Drop, or Sky Attack. This move cannot affect a target with the ability Bulletproof.

Effect Steel-type Metal Lash inflicts damage, hitting the target 2-5 times per use. Each strike made has a 30% chance of lowering the target's Defense stat by one stage.

Fairy-type Can-Can inflicts damage for 2-3 turns (PP is deducted only on the turn Thrash is first called) after which the user becomes confused.

In battles with multiple opponents, the user selects itself as the target, but hits an adjacent opponent that is selected at random upon each use of the move.

The move is disrupted if it is not successful due to missing, sleeping, paralysis, freeze, flinching, a Protecting target, or Wonder Guard immunity. If a disruption occurs on what would have been the final, confusion-inducing turn of Can-Can, the user will still become confused.

Furthermore, a target hit by this move has a 30% chance of having its ability change to Mummy for the following 2-5 2-3 turns; a message will read "(target) joined the dance!"

A physical Psychic-type version of Petal Dance, Whirling Dance Whirligig is Hitmontop's new signature move. Whirligig is considered a dance move and will thus activate another Pokémon's Dancer ability.

Rock-type Sure Shot inflicts damage and bypasses accuracy checks to always hit, unless the target is in the semi-invulnerable turn of Dig or has the ability Bulletproof. Furthermore, this move grounds the target if it was ungrounded.

Fire-type Bengala does not inflict damage but always makes the target flinch, unless it has the Ability Inner Focus or Shield Dust. It has a priority of +3, so is used before all moves that do not have higher or increased priority.

This status move can be used more than once per battle; however the user can hit any target only on the first turn it has entered battle and not been switched out. This move does not make contact.

Electric-type Lightning does not inflict damage but does reduce an adjacent foe's Special Defense by one level. During rain or Thunderstorm weather, this effect is boosted to reducing an adjacent foe's Special Defense by two levels. In Double Battles, Lightning may affect both adjacent foes.

Additionally, Lightning has a priority of +1, so is used before all moves that do not have higher or increased priority.

Lightning will not affect foes with the improved Own Tempo ability as well as the abilities Oblivious, Reckless, or Stolid.

Lightning is a sound-based move and therefore will not affect foes with the ability Soundproof.

Shuckle's new signature move allows the user to consume a berry and confer its effects to a target ally. The consumed berry may be recovered using the move Recycle or the ability Harvest, if applicable. The ability Ravenous will only take effect in a triple battle if the Pokémon with that ability was not originally selected as the target ally for this move.

Invigorate has a priority of +3, so is used before all moves that do not have higher or increased priority.

Meganium and Tropius can also learn this move.

Padmasana (Japanese: Lotus Pose) is a non-damaging Psychic-type status move that raises the user's Special Defense stat by two stages during the first turn and then levitates the user into the air for three turns starting at the end of the next turn (another move may still be used during the user's second turn, except if that moves requires a recharge move immediately after). While the user remains suspended, it will be immune to Ground-type moves, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Arena Trap. However, the levitating effects of this move may be interrupted by Smack Down or Sure Shot.

Toxtricity's new signature move Dank Beat is a damage-dealing special Poison-type attack that hits all adjacent foes (but not allies) and has a 30% chance of confusing each target.

Dank Beat is a sound-based move and therefore will not affect foes with the ability Soundproof.

Post-Game KANTO LEAGUE

After completing the Johto Main Game, players can proceed to challenge the Kanto Master League. Henceforth, the order of gyms is less linear and each gym will award a Z-Crystal in addition to a (roughly) type-matching TM. Players can also obtain a Lv 5 Kanto starter Pokémon from Prof. Elm's colleague Prof. Oak in Pallet Town at any point during this journey. Unless otherwise noted, the following gym leaders challenge the player to Double Battles.

  • Since her father Koga joined the Kanto Elite Four, Janine has taken the reins of Fuchsia City Gym, operating it as a dual-type Poison/Dark themed gym. "It's one thing to learn from the past. It's another to get stuck in the past. Every generation has to try something new, I think." She explains to the player. Janine awards TM42 Facade and Darkinium Z after defeating her.
  • Sabrina will challenge the player to an Inverse Battle. She awards TM92 Trick Room and Psychium Z after defeating her.
  • Tucker's challenge will consist of a series of 3-on-3 Rotation Battles. Although Tucker's signature Pokémon is Fairy-type Lunamoth, he and other trainers in this gym will feature randomly assorted parties of various types.
    • Players may challenge Tucker's gym at any time in the post-game, but they will face one fewer round for every additional Kanto badge on hand. Given none to at least one Kanto badge, players can only face Tucker after winning 10 successive rounds; two Kanto badges in hand means nine wins before facing Tucker, and so on until a player with seven Kanto badges only requires four consecutive wins to battle Tucker in his impressive arena before roaring crowds.
    • Players can only select three Pokémon from their party per round for battle but Tucker will feature a 6-on-6 Rotation Battle.
  • Rather than award a TM or Z-Crystal for defeating him, Blue will offer to teach any of your starter Pokémon the moves Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, or Hydro Cannon as often as you'd like. (See notes for Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, and Hydro Cannon under Changes to Pokémon Moves section.)
  • A family in Lavender Town will pass onto you Ghostium Z in thanks for joining them to pay respects for a departed Pokémon.
  • If you show Picnicker Carol (renamed Mira) on Kanto Route 10 a "chunky, pink Pokémon with floral patterns" (ie, Munna), she will award you a Normalium Z.
  • A side quest off the Seafoam Islands featuring Lapras and Lorelei of the Kanto Elite Four will allow you to be awarded Icium Z as thanks.
  • Steven Stone can be found be visiting the lobby of Silph Co. Headquarters. Approach him at any point of your Kanto journey: he will recognize the player as a fellow Champion and award one of the Hoenn starters (Lv 5): Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip.
    • Steven Stone will explain that he's learning about Silph Co.'s latest project: recreating Alola's Z-Crystals for broader use. He admits that he feels conflicted about replicating those "sacred treasures" but will award you Steelium Z after earning 16 badges to "help you face the Kanto Elite Four".

  • Upon clearing the Kanto Elite Four, players will proceed to the Champion's room to find none other than Lance yet again. Lance will explain that "these days" he usually fights challengers in lieu of the previous Champion who "has stepped away for more intensive training". Lance will offer to battle you again but then reconsider offering you access to Mt. Silver to challenge Kanto's original Champion yourself.
