Effect

Generation V

Storm Throw inflicts damage and will always result in a critical hit unless the target has Battle Armor, Shell Armor, or is under the effects of Lucky Chant.

Generation VI to VIII

Storm Throw's power changed from 40 to 60, coinciding with critical hits now dealing 1.5× damage instead of 2× damage.

Storm Throw can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if any of the moves Entrainment, Hold Hands, or Play Nice was used in the prior turn.

Generation IX

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Storm Throw cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Storm Throw is usable and functions as it did in previous generations.

Trivia

  • Prior to Generation IX, all Pokémon capable of learning Storm Throw were capable of having the Ability Mold Breaker, which will negate the protection from critical hits normally provided by Battle Armor and Shell Armor. This made Lucky Chant the only guaranteed way to prevent Storm Throw from getting a critical hit.
