Assurance (Japanese: ダメおし Make Sure) is a damage-dealing Dark-type move introduced in Generation IV. It was TM58 in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Effect
Generations IV and V
Assurance inflicts damage and will deal double damage if the target has already received damage on the turn it is used. This includes self-inflicted and indirect damage, such as damage from a Life Orb, recoil, crash damage, or hurting itself in confusion.
Generation VI onwards
Assurance's power changed from 50 to 60.

- The Japanese name of this move, ダメおし Dameoshi (Make Sure), if literally translated, can be read as "useless push", once the term dameoshi is the combination of the words ダメ dame (no good; useless; hopeless) and おし oshi (pushing).[1][2] This might explain its move animations displaying hands pushing the target.
- The term dameoshi can also be translated as "insurance run", a baseball term that describes when a team already in the lead keeps running score.[3]
