Outside of the Sinjoh Ruins, Giovanni, Lance, and Pryce continue to battle the Pokémon of myth. Crystal notes that Dialga and Palkia are beginning to calm down, but Giratina is still restless. Giovanni calls on Ursaring to use Avalanche on it, but before he is able to finish it off, he collapses.
Giratina prepares to attack Giovanni, but Silver is quick to send out his Weavile and Rhyperior. Silver commands Rhyperior to use a powerful Rock Wrecker attack against the Legendary Pokémon, protecting his ailing father. Silver rushes to Giovanni, who asks him how he learned that move. Silver responds by holding out the book Giovanni had written on Ground-type Pokémon, making him weakly smile. Giovanni states that he no longer has any regrets as he nears the brink of death.
Watching the father and son, Lance realizes why Giovanni has been searching for Celebi. He explains to Crystal that Giovanni had needed it to cure his illness, likening the situation to the tale of the Pokéathlon's origin. Lance reveals that Celebi, along with Gold's Pokémon, are currently collecting the ingredients for Giovanni's medicine in the Ilex Forest. He points out that even though Giovanni could have saved himself by searching for the ingredients, he made the choice to come to the Sinjoh Ruins and fight for his son's future.
Inside the ruins, Gold yells out as Arceus attacks him. Frustrated at not being able to communicate with Arceus, he sends out his Pokémon to battle it. As all of his Pokémon charge toward Arceus, Gold realizes that it is only watching Togebo, and he is reminded of Lance telling him that Togebo is not attached to him. When Arceus knocks all of Gold's Pokémon to the ground, he recalls Togebo, believing that his relationship with it is not strong enough to restore Arceus's faith in humanity. He sends the rest of his Pokémon to keep attacking, and Togebo pounds on its Poké Ball in fury.
Gold and his Pokémon continue to be battered with attacks from Arceus. Thrown to the ground, Gold attempts to reach out for Togebo's Poké Ball, but it rolls away from him. Togebo manages to free itself, then charges for Arceus. It climbs up its body and attempts to attack, but Arceus strikes it and sends it plummeting to the ground. Despite its injuries, Togebo charges forward again and faces another direct hit from Arceus.
Gold shouts at Togebo to stop fighting. He reaches toward it, but it slaps his hand away. Togebo sticks its tongue out at Gold, and he freezes as a memory comes to him. He thinks of DJ Mary telling him that he and Togebo seem to have a "symbiotic understanding" of each other. Gold realizes that he has left Togebo out of all of the important battles he has had. After Togebo takes another hit from Arceus, Gold apologizes to it. He blames himself for not opening up to Togebo, and asks for it to battle Arceus with him.
Gold calls for Togebo to use Double-Edge. As it takes off into the air, it evolves into a Togetic, then immediately afterward, a Togekiss. It slams into Arceus's chest with a great impact. Although Arceus is unharmed by the attack, it pauses. To Gold and Togebo's surprise, Arceus turns away, leaving them.
Outside the ruins, everyone stares in shock as Arceus emerges.
