About Myself

  • I am a Bulbapedia user from Florida, USA, aged 30 who has played every generation since Gen I. Well, except for Gen V – while I appreciate the plot in BW, that was a poorly conceieved generation overall with a lot of flimsily designed species.
  • I am only a fan of the primary canon of Pokémon games.
  • I do not support or engage in Poké-shipping.

[Note: In the following section, lower numbers indicate higher preference for that enumerated item.]

  • favorite Pokémon:
    • 1: Lucario - Has satisfactory Speed and a diverse movepool with exceptional moves for Offense. Dark Pulse and Aura Sphere complete the wonderful package!
    • 2: Sceptile - Finally! Here comes a phenomenal Grass-type for speedy Offense.
    • 3: Venasaur - Has a diverse movepool with exceptional Support moves.
    • 4: Vigoroth
  • favorite types:
    • 1: Grass - Thankfully, Generation IV was very generous with this type.
    • 2: Fighting - Poliwrath, Blaziken (and its carbon copy Infernape), Breloom, Gallade, and Lucario as well as the increased availability of TM31 Brick Break (for Electabuzz, Ampharos, Magmar, various normal types, etc.) in Generation III made this type worthwhile additons to my teams. Alas, if only Donphan and Granbull could join their ranks! (see "IF ONLY, IF ONLY").
  • favorite moves:
    • 1: Aura Sphere
    • 2: Leaf Blade
    • 3: Brick Break
    • 4: Dark Void
    • 5: Fire Punch / Ice Punch / Thunder Punch

Changes to Battle Mechanics & Abilities

  • The ability to learn Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Toxic, Focus Blast, or Earthquake via TM should be much more limited.
  • While Rain Dance or rain is in effect, the base damage of Water-type AND Electric-type moves will be increased by 50% 30%.
  • Normal-type is no longer immune to Ghost-type but does resist Fairy-type.
  • Electric-type is now super-effective against Steel-type.
  • While Ground-type remains immune to Electric-type, Rock-type is now resistant to Electric-type.
  • Rock-type is now resistant to Dragon-type.
  • Bug-type Pokémon are now immune to Fairy and Ghost-type moves. Bug-type Pokémon now take neutral damage from Fighting and Ground-type moves and resist Physic (Psychic) and Scourge (Dark) type moves.
  • Fighting-type is no longer super-effective against Steel-type or Ice-type, inflicting only normal-damage (×1) against either type.
  • Rock-type is no longer super-effective against Ice-type. Rock-type moves inflict normal-damage (×1) against Ice-type targets.
  • Now Water-type only inflicts normal damage (×1) against Ground-type, ie Water-type is no longer super-effective against Ground-type.
  • Now Grass-type only inflicts normal damage (×1) against Rock-type, ie Grass-type is no longer super-effective against Rock-type.
  • Steel-type is now super-effective against Grass-type.
  • Poison-type is now super-effective against Water-type and Ground-type as well as Grass-type.
  • Both Psychic-type and Fire-type moves are now super-effective against Fairy-type targets. Meanwhile, Steel-type still resists Fairy-type but is no longer super-effective against Fairy-type. Steel-type is now immune to Fairy-type and remains super-effective against Fairy-type.
  • Now Ice-type and Grass-type targets in addition to Fire-type and Poison-type targets are resistant to Fairy-type moves.
  • Fighting-type and Bug-type no longer resist one another, now only inflicting normal-damage (×1) against each other.
  • Ice-type Pokémon should now resist Bug, Grass, Ground, and Water-type moves. Ice-type Pokémon now take neutral damage from Ground and Rock-type moves.
  • STAB is reduced from a ×1.5 multiplier to a ×1.33 multiplier.
  • Type-order now matters: whether a type first or second affects resistance (but not STAB). For a given Pokémon, the type listed first reduces damages from a weaker-type by two-thirds (×0.33) while the type listed second reduces damages from a weaker-type by a third (×0.66). An attack that is weak against both of the target's types inflicts 1 HP in damage. (The in-battle text will read "Attack inflicted negligible damage.")
  • In addition to immunity against most Ground-type moves and most entry hazards, Levitate also provides Pokémon with this ability immunity to the effects – positive or negative – of any terrain currently active on the field.
  • Fond of sweet delicacies, a new NPC named Pokémon Whisperer allows players to change the ability of a select Pokémon to its Hidden Ability in exchange for a regional specialty: Pewter Crunchies, Rage Candy Bar, Lava Cookie, Old Gateau, Casteliacone, Lumiose Galette, Shalour Sable, or Big Malasada
  • Sheer Force is now the Fighting-type equivalent of Aerilate, Pixilate, etc: Sheer Force causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Fighting-type and receive a 30% base power boost in addition to all other modifiers, such as STAB.
  • Steelworker is now now a Steel-type variation (not equivalent) of Aerilate, Pixilate, etc: Steelworker causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Steel-type and receive a 30% base power boost in addition to all other modifiers, such as STAB. Moves that are already Steel-type also receive a 30% base power boost regardless of the user's type (not stackable if STAB already applies for user).
  • During harsh sunlight, a Pokémon with ability Solar Power gains a 1.25× boost to its Special Attack AND RECOVERS one-eighth (⅛) of its maximum HP at the end of each turn.
  • Illuminate now has in-battle effects: a Pokémon on the field with this Ability will grant a 30% boost to the original accuracy of moves by all allies AND reduce the original accuracy of moves by all foes by 30%. It will also prevent foes from using the abilities Compound Eyes, Keen Eye, or Tinted Lens while a Pokémon with this ability remains in battle. (The accuracy boost from Illuminate does not stack upon the accuracy boost from Compound Eyes by allies.)
  • Magnet Pull prevents Steel-type foes from fleeing (including Teleport) or switching out as long as the user remains in battle. As an additional effect, this ability redirects all Steel-type moves used by foes to target the Pokémon with this Ability: if the move is a physical move, the Pokémon with this Ability absorbs the attack and its Defense is raised one stage; if the move is a special move, the Pokémon with this Ability absorbs the attack and its Special Attack is raised one stage.
  • Wonder Guard now allows a Pokémon with this ability (namely Shedinja) to automatically copy the max HP of an opponent for the remainder of the battle (HP will only reset after end of battle). Upon joining a double/triple/etc battle, the Pokémon with this ability copies the higher HP of adjacent opponents. Wonder Guard also retains its original effect: a Pokémon with this ability is immune to damage from attacks that are not super effective.
  • Flash Fire makes a Pokémon with this ability AND its allies on the field immune to damage from Fire-type attacks. Furthermore, in lieu of suffering damage, a Pokémon with this ability receives a one-stage boost to its Attack if targeted by a physical Fire-type attack or one-stage boost to its Special Attack if targeted by a special Fire-type attack. Furthermore, once activated, the terrain becomes Scorched Earth as long as the Pokémon with this ability remains on the field.
  • Aura and pulse moves (which gain an base power boost from the ability Mega Launcher) and ball and bomb moves (which are negated by the ability Bulletproof) are now part of the same category of moves, ie all these moves gain a base power boost from the ability Mega Launcher but are negated by the ability Bulletproof.
  • In addition to a speed boost during a hailstorm, Pokémon on the field with the Ability Slush Rush become immune to damage from hail regardless of said Pokémon's type.
  • A new ability named Stealthy allows the Pokémon with this ability to avoid entry hazards, including Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Sticky Web.
  • As an additional effect, Infiltrator also allows Pokémon with this ability to avoid entry hazards, including Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Sticky Web.
  • Liquid Ooze causes HP-draining moves used on the Pokémon with this Ability to damage their user instead of healing them. But as a secondary effect, this ability also clears entry hazards after coming into contact with and inflicting damage to a Pokémon with this Ability.
  • As an additional effect, Pokémon with the abilities Compound Eyes and Keen Eye can bypass an opponent's Substitute to attack the target directly.
  • When a Pokémon with the ability Aftermath is knocked out by an opponent's attack – whether it makes contact or not – damage is dealt to that opponent equal to the amount of HP the fainted Pokémon had left before last being hit or equal to ⅓ of the opponent's maximum HP, whichever is greater. (Innards Out is no more!)
  • The ability Flower Gift increases the Attack and Special Defense stats of the Pokémon with this Ability and its allies by 1.5× regardless of the weather, so long as the Pokémon with this ability remains on the field.
  • The ability Intimidate lowers the Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by half. Another new counterpart ability, Dazzle, lowers the Special Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by half.
  • In addition to lowering the Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by two stages, the ability Intimidate prevents an opponent from using a priority move (including moves boosted by Prankster, Gale Wings or Triage) against a Pokémon with this ability or its allies. Another new counterpart ability, Dazzle, has all the same effects but instead lowers the Special Attack stat of all adjacent opponents by two stages.
  • The effects of Sticky Hold and Gooey are combined into a single ability, an improved Sticky Hold. All prior instances of Gooey become Sticky Hold.
  • The effects of Magma Armor and Flame Body are combined into a single ability, an improved Flame Body. All prior instances of Magma Armor become Flame Body.
    • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with this improved Flame Body is immune to burns.
    • But as a secondary effect, this improved ability also clears entry hazards after coming into contact with and inflicting damage to a Pokémon with this Ability. eg, in-battle message: Spikes got caught in Magcargo's Flame Body!
    • In short, this improved Flame Body inflicts burn status to opponents upon contact (30% chance), prevents freezing for Pokémon with this Ability, AND clears entry hazards.
  • The effects of Vital Spirit and Moxie are combined into a single ability, an improved Vital Spirit. All prior instances of Moxie become Vital Spirit.
  • The effects of Limber and Steadfast are combined into a single ability, an improved Limber. All prior instances of Steadfast become Limber.
  • The effects of Own Tempo and Inner Focus are combined into a single ability, an improved Own Tempo.
  • The effects of Stench and Aroma Veil are combined into a single ability, an improved Stench.
  • The in-battle and overworld effects of Poison Point and Poison Touch are combined into a single ability, an improved Poison Point.
  • Whereas Huge Power doubles the Attack stat of the Pokémon with this Ability, Pure Power now doubles the Special Attack stat of the Pokémon with that Ability.
  • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with the ability Motor Drive may use Moves that require recharging without resting the following turn.
  • Pokémon with the ability Motor Drive may use Electric-type moves with +1 priority so long as their HP remains at 30% or greater.
  • Gale Wings grants +1 priority for all Flying-type moves used by a Pokémon with this ability and grants a 20% power boost to Flying-type attacks used by said Pokémon, if applicable.
  • Pokémon with the ability Gale Wings may use any Flying-type move with +1 priority so long as their HP remains at 30% or greater.
  • 'As an additional effect, a Pokémon with Dry Skin is also immune to residual damage from sandstorm each turn.
  • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with the ability Sap Sipper (Herbivorous) regains 1/16 of its maximum HP at the end of each turn while Grassy Terrain remains in effect.
  • As an additional effect, Fur Coat negates the passive damage or added effects from abilities that react to contact.
  • As an additional effect, a Pokémon with the ability Pressure is immune to non-damaging effects from the moves Gravity, Magnet Rise, Telekinesis, Smack Down, Sure Shot, and Thousand Arrows.
  • Hyper Cutter is renamed Vorpal Cutter. This ability now prevents a Pokémon with this ability from having its Attack lowered, whether by an opponent's move or its own.
  • NEW ABILITY: Full Metal Sound causes all sound-based moves used by a Pokémon to become Steel-type and confers STAB damage, if applicable for the user. Furthermore, a Pokémon with this ability becomes immune to all non-Steel-type non-damaging [[[status move|status]] sound-based moves.
  • NEW ABILITY: Aegis Vorpal Guard prevents a Pokémon with this ability from having its Defense AND Special Defense lowered, whether by an opponent's move or its own.
  • REVAMPED During double / triple battles, etc, if a Pokémon with Symbiosis has a held item, it also copies the effects of that item (but not the item itself) onto an ally or allies on the field once said item is consumed
  • NEW ABILITY: Slick reduces the final calculated damage received from physical attacks by 25% half. Critical hits that target a Pokémon with this Ability inflict normal damage.
  • The ability Run Away should be renamed Nimble.
  • NEW ABILITY: Nocturnal replaces Insomnia – ie, all prior instances of Insomnia become Nocturnal. Nocturnal prevents the Pokémon with this ability from being afflicted by sleep by an opponent's moves, including Yawn; however, this Pokémon may still use Rest, unlike Pokémon with the ability Vital Spirit. Pokémon with Nocturnal also receive a STAB-boost for using Ghost or Dark-type attacks, regardless of the user's own type.
  • NEW ABILITY: The move Echoed Voice should be renamed Crescendo but a new ability Echoed Voice (Amplify?) grants a 30% boost to the base accuracy as well as 20% boost to the base power of sound-based moves used by this ability.
  • NEW ABILITY: Ravenous allows the Pokémon with this ability to copy the effects of an item consumed by an ally in the same or immediately previous turn. If more than one item was consumed by more than one ally, all effects may be copied.
  • NEW ABILITY: Juggernaut reduces the multiplier of super-effective damaging moves targeting a Pokémon with this ability to ×1 (normal damage). A Pokémon with Juggernaut clears the field of opposing entry hazards after receiving damage from said entry hazards upon entering battle.
  • NEW ABILITY: Stolid (Dauntless?) reduces the final calculated damage from Dark-type moves used against a Pokémon with this ability by half. Any Dark-type status moves targeting a Pokémon with this ability will fail.
  • The original ability Moody is no more! Instead, Moody becomes the new name for the ability Contrary.
  • The original ability Unaware is renamed Insouciant.
  • NEW ABILITY: Cavalier takes on the same effects as the original ability Simple. (The original ability Simple is no more!)
  • NEW ABILITY: Daredevil is now a copy of Simple – ie, the number of stages that a stat is increased or decreased by a move, Ability, or item is doubled for a Pokémon with this ability.
  • NEW ABILITY: Maverick is now a copy of Unaware – ie, if a Pokémon with this Ability uses a damaging move or is targeted by a damaging move, the other Pokémon's stat stages are ignored during damage and accuracy calculation.
  • NEW ABILITY: Dauntless
  • NEW WEATHER TYPE: Thunderstorm, a variation of rain. During a thunderstorm, each turn there is a 12.5% (⅛) chance that any Pokémon in battle may be struck by Thunderbolt from the environment; Steel-type Pokémon on the field will have a 25% (¼) chance of being struck. Pokémon on the field with ability Lightning Rod will attract Thunderbolt every time (multiple Pokémon on the field with this ability will share the probability of getting struck among themselves).

Using Thunder during rain will generate a Thunderstorm for as long as the rain lasts – ie, A thunderstorm rolled in with the call of Thunder!

  • Moon Balls have a 4× catch rate modifier when used against wild Fairy-type Pokémon or on a wild Pokémon from an evolutionary family that includes a Pokémon which evolves using a Moon Stone.
  • The Grass-type-type is known now as Botan.
  • The Dark-type-type is known now as Umbra Scourge.
  • The Steel-type-type is known now as Metal.
  • The Psychic-type-type is known now as Physic, alluding to the ability to manipulate physical forces as well as physical space and time.

Revamped Type Chart According to AceTrainerAlvaro

UNDER CONSTRUCTION Please refer to Changes to Battle Mechanics & Abilities section for my latest changes.

Main article: Type/Type chart

Type-order now matters: whether a type first or second affects resistance (but not STAB). For a given Pokémon, the type listed first reduces damages from a weaker-type by two-thirds (×0.33) while the type listed second reduces damages from a weaker-type by a third (×0.66). An attack that is weak against both of the target's types inflicts 1 HP in damage. (The in-battle text will read "Attack inflicted negligible damage.") A complete ineffectiveness against either type will still make the move deal no damage, since 0 multiplied by any number is 0. Also, STAB is reduced from a ×1.5 multiplier to a ×1.33 multiplier.

In Inverse Battles, a different type chart is used that essentially inverts the normal type chart, turning immunities and resistances into weaknesses, and weaknesses into resistances.
