| |||
Carmine is a student of Blueberry Academy, and native to Kitakami's Mossui Town, having been born there.. She and Kieran are chosen to accompany the incoming students from Naranja Academy/Uva Academy on a cultural tour of the area under the watch of her teacher Briar. She is an immediately cold, bossy, and outright unwelcoming presence towards the player from the moment they enter Mossui Town on the basis that they are an outsider, picking a fight with them upon their arrival. After the battle, she hastily prompts the player to pair with her brother during the orienteering exercise.
Throughout this period, Carmine often puts on a front to hide her insults when in a social situation, though the students that accompany the player to Kitakami see right through it. In many instances, she showcases her self-absorbed nature, ranging from comments on her own prowess in battle to the way she looks. After the player is introduced to Yukito and Hideko, Carmine and Kieran's grandparents, she encounters the player and her brother yet again. She chooses to tag along with the pair to the Festival of Masks (rejecting to invite the partner she was assigned) battling the player after realizing they only have two masks to share between the three. When the three initially arrive at the festival, Carmine makes sure to take a picture to remember the moment.
| |||
She challenges the player to beat her high score in Ogre Oustin', which Kieran isn't ever interested in participating in. Her constant rudeness begins to impact her younger brother, who she spends a great deal of time telling to be quiet and to ignore, routinely berating him for his perspective on the story of the Loyal Three. On the outskirts of the festival, Carmine and the player have a chance encounter with Ogerpon, a Pokémon from local legend that became vilified after a battle with another group of Pokémon called the Loyal Three, which flees after dropping a Teal Mask. Although Carmine feels conflicted, she ultimately decides to lie to Kieran about the event to protect him. Knowing Kieran idolized Ogerpon, she fears he will blame them for missing a chance to meet it. The next morning, Carmine accompanies the player to give the mask back to her grandfather, who reveals Ogerpon's true story to the duo; that the "Loyal" Three were actually a group of bandits who attacked Ogerpon's Trainer and stole three masks made for her by the siblings' distant ancestor; Ogerpon slew the Loyal Three, but the villagers believed she was attacking them and came to fear her. Upon realizing that the ogre was maligned for what really happened, Carmine immediately moves to tell the village of the truth, though her grandfather prevents her hot-headedness from causing trouble; stating that the truth would only make things worse.
The moment that Ogerpon's story is revealed to Carmine in full, she vows to make the Pokémon happy, volunteering to help restore its mask alongside the player. Carmine and the player visit the Crystal Pool to retrieve a Crystal Cluster in order to fix the mask, where she showcases her extreme pride and knowledge surrounding her home. Although her proclivity to refer to those not from Kitakami as "outsiders" causes friction between the girl and others, she appears to have an understanding of the folklore surrounding the Crystal Pool; where she recalls a rumor that you can meet people there who have passed away. This is reinforced by the appearance of Professor Sada or Turo at the lake following the player's capture of Terapagos, as well as with the Milotic in the lake that attacks Carmine and the player, due to it's (albeit unused) Ghost Tera-type.
| |||
Discovering that that Kieran overheard the conversation and erroneously assumed that the pair were excluding him out of spite, Carmine accompanies the player to the Monument of the Loyal Three, where Kieran, having stolen Ogerpon's mask, does battle with the player. He storms off following his defeat, though in that moment the Loyal Three unexpectedly come back to life, making their way towards Kitakami Hall. These clashes with Kieran often lead her to think that these are simply bouts of teenage angst, failing to realize the irony. The villagers, unaware of the truth behind the original tale, both feed the Loyal Three and present them with the three remaining stolen masks. When Carmine is unable to get a word in to convince them otherwise, she heads to the Dreaded Den with the player to stop The Loyal Three from harming Ogerpon. After Munkidori is defeated, the trio run off, where Carmine assumes the role as the leader of what she calls the "Mask Retrieval Squad" in order to get them back. Carmine seems to be good at reading Ogerpon's feelings toward both the player and Kieran, but fails to realize that it cannot understand her all the same, much to her chagrin. She and the player accompany Ogerpon to track down and battle the now-Titanic-sized Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti, while Kieran returns to Mossui Town to reveal the true nature of Ogerpon's story. With Ogerpon's reputation safely restored among the villagers, the group returns to Ogerpon's mountain home, where Ogerpon chooses the player to be her Trainer.
To Carmine's annoyance, Kieran demands a final battle with the player for the right to take Ogerpon, irrespective of Ogerpon's wishes, where the player subsequently defeats Kieran and catches Ogerpon. The following day, Carmine challenges the player, insisting that they use Ogerpon on their team. After their journey in Kitakami, she appears to have something heartfelt to tell the player, but is cut short by a phone call telling her to return to the village. Toward the end of The Teal Mask, Carmine realizes that the way she treated those visiting Kitakami was wrong, with her behavior being out of fear that her home was to become a tourist trap for strangers that wouldn't appreciate it. Kieran and Carmine are to return early to Blueberry Academy due to an unexpected development in the Great Crater of Paldea, with Carmine giving the final farewell on behalf of Kieran.
====Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk====
| |||
Carmine is first brought up during a moment of growth at the beginning of The Indigo Disk, when Cyrano mentions that she was the one to recommend the player to Blueberry Academy. After a short phone call following the player's entry to the Terarium, Carmine reunites with the player. She maintains her cheery attitude towards them from the end of The Indigo Disk, having kept herself busy travelling to many different regions with Briar to aid in her research. She's initially seen talking to Amarys, her good friend at the academy, before challenging the player to a battle.
By the other students at the academy, Carmine is described as self-absorbed, but they find it difficult to hate her in spite of that. Others in her class do view her as somewhat frustrating to deal with, particularly given that she's a part of the student body, a sentiment echoed the Mossui Town Caretaker, suggesting she's acted a certain way for some time. This extends to the other townsfolk of her home, wondering if she finally went berserk after the Loyal Three's Monument was destroyed.
| |||
Upon returning to Blueberry Academy, she became concerned for Kieran when noticing a drastic chance in his attitude, which further prompts her to ask the player to look out for him whenever they're at the academy.. This concern becomes exacerbated when Carmine sees Kieran become Champion of the BB League, using his authority to bully other students out of the club. She also begrudgingly introduces the player to Drayton, who she sees as nothing but a distrustful pest, often seething when the two are on screen together. He constantly brings her to a point of anger, especially when he refers to setting up a "cafeteria date" with the player.
She is there to watch the player become the BB League Champion after they defeat Kieran. Following this, Briar informs him, the player, and Carmine that she's recently gotten permission from Paldea League chairwoman and Top Champion Geeta to search Area Zero for a mysterious Pokémon called Terapagos. When Kieran quickly joins her and the player, Carmine joins as well. In the Underdepths, Kieran, egged on by a glory-blinded Briar, attempts to use Terapagos to defeat the player, resulting in the Pokémon losing control of its power and the player stepping in to subdue it. Carmine attempts to help, but with the bulk of her team already taken out by the other powerful Pokémon in the area, she is forced to beg Kieran for help. Though initially hesitant, Kieran comes to his senses and helps the player defeat Terapagos and ultimately catch it, where both he and Carmine burst into tears after all is calm.
After returning to Blueberry Academy, Kieran makes amends with the player. Carmine takes a picture of all three together, once again. It is here where the player is able to see the picture that Carmine took of the player and Kieran when they visited the Festival of Masks during The Teal Mask.

====Mochi Mayhem==== | |||
| |||
| |||
Some time after the events in the Area Zero Underdepths, Kieran invites the player and their friends from Paldea, Nemona, Arven and Penny, to visit him in Kitakami. When they get there, they discover that ever since Kieran sent his invitation, Carmine has been acting extremely erratically; her eyes have turned purple, she is obsessively doing a strange dance, and she is only capable of uttering the word "Mochi". The player and Kieran investigate to discover that the Mythical Pokémon Pecharunt has been feeding the villagers of Kitakami tainted mochi; brainwashing them, including Carmine. The two pursue and confront Pecharunt, who summons the brainwashed villagers to protect it. Kieran holds the group off while the player defeats the brainwashed Nemona and catches Pecharunt, also restoring Carmine to normal. Afterwards, the group is able to finally enjoy their Kitakami vacation, with Nemona battling Carmine at least a dozen times. Several days later, the siblings see the player off before returning to Blueberry Academy.
Over the course of the game, and as mentioned when she returns to Blueberry Academy, she comes to terms with the fact that she's incredibly overprotective of her younger brother, and that she'll dial it back in the future. Carmine never truly sheds her snarky nature, even when gifting the player a pair of Sinistcha-themed Joke Glasses, telling the player that they'll look great on them, and that they should wear them every day.
When interacting with Carmine's desk in her room at the academy, the player seems to acknowledge that she's very neat and organized. Carmine states that she can't swim, although it may be that she just doesn't want to get herself wet, something she states numerous times. She is also deeply embarrassed at the events of Mochi Mayhem, shouting at the player if they answer "Well, actually..." when Carmine asks if they recorded any videos of her dancing.

| |||
Whilst her age is unknown, Carmine herself mentions that she still considers herself to be a kid. Carmine is a tall girl with long, bi-colored black hair. It curls downwards into several long strands that taper out into ribbon shapes, with two longer strands that protrude from just above her ears. The others reach down to her to just above her waist, facing outwards to reveal a scarlet color. Two short bangs hang out from the direct center of her forehead; intersecting atop each other and reaching down to her nose, with all of her hair being held together by a bright yellow hairband. Carmine's eyes feature similarly bright yellow irises, with long, slit-shaped black pupils. Whenever she is in a state of anger or seriousness, (as seen briefly in the beginning of a battle against her) Carmine's eyes lose their white shine for a brief moment. A mole can be seen under her left eye, which has sharp, distinct eyelashes. In moments of distress, Carmine tugs on the longer ends of her hair, and occasionally brushes aside the bangs on her forehead when in battle. When laughing, she clasps both hands in front of her face.
Most of the time, Carmine wears a variation of the Blueberry Academy winter uniform; a deep blue, three-button up jacket with the school's insignia to the left of the torso. Below is a white undershirt that reaches to her neck. On the back-side of the jacket arm, a noticeably brighter blue stripe can be seen. Below, the uniform's pants are long, blue, and form-fitting, particularly towards the ankles. An inverted v-shaped stripe can be seen towards the knees of the pants; the leftmost leg's shape being pure white, with the rightmost being the same brighter blue color that was on the arms. A white belt is worn around the uniform's waist. When taking time off from school, Carmine often wears long pajamas, which her concept art describes as "Holiday style". It also details her enjoyment of sweet snacks.
Carmine also wears a red glove with a fingerless thumb on her right hand, as well as a yellow bag around her waist, with two large grey zippers, identical to her brother's. It's unknown what is contained in the pouch, as she retrieves her Poké Balls from a back pocket when in battle, which she throws in a back-handed, underarm fashion. When watching others in battle, she stands with her hands clasped together, lightly bouncing up and down.
During, and the morning after the Festival of Masks, Carmine wears a blue jinbei, which bears simplified markings of Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti. The short arms are segmented by wide meshes halfway through, with the pockets on the bottom half also partially bearing a mesh design. On her feet, Carmine wears sandals. The mask she chooses to hook around her hairband is that which represents Munkidori.

Carmine made her animated series debut in HZ069. During a harvest festival, Carmine was approached by Friede who wanted to know more about her Sinistcha. Not wanting to pay too much attention to him, she sent him away, but with his insistence, the two got into a series of contests, which ended in a Pokémon battle between the two. Frustrated by her defeat, she challenged Friede once more, but after discovering that he was looking for Briar, Carmine revealed that she was her student and where she was at that moment.

====Character==== | |||
| |||
Just like in the games, Carmine tends to be distrustful towards people outside of her homeland at first before warming up to them. She has a hot tempered and competitive personality, hates losing and is always looking to challenge other people to various events for the sake of winning. This is shown explicitly when she kept losing to Friede and his Friede in various games, only getting more frustrated every time she lost.

Carmine (Japanese: ゼイユ Seille) is a friend character introduced in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. She is originally from Kitakami and attends Blueberry Academy with her younger brother, Kieran. She is strong-willed and can be a little selfish, but always looks out for her little brother—even if she isn't the best at showing it. Many people say that she can be chilly towards people from other regions.[4]
In the core series games
Character and role
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask
Carmine is a student of Blueberry Academy, and native to Kitakami's Mossui Town, having been born there.[5]. She and Kieran are chosen to accompany the incoming students from Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV on a cultural tour of the area under the watch of her teacher Briar. She is an immediately cold, bossy,[6] and outright unwelcoming presence towards the player from the moment they enter Mossui Town on the basis that they are an outsider, picking a fight with them upon their arrival.[7][8][9] After the battle, she hastily prompts the player to pair with her brother during the orienteering exercise.
Throughout this period, Carmine often puts on a front to hide her insults when in a social situation,[10] though the students that accompany the player to Kitakami see right through it.[11] In many instances, she showcases her self-absorbed nature, ranging from comments on her own prowess in battle to the way she looks.[12][13][14][15] After the player is introduced to Yukito and Hideko, Carmine and Kieran's grandparents, she encounters the player and her brother yet again. She chooses to tag along with the pair to the Festival of Masks (rejecting to invite the partner she was assigned)[16] battling the player after realizing they only have two masks to share between the three. When the three initially arrive at the festival, Carmine makes sure to take a picture to remember the moment.
She challenges the player to beat her high score in Ogre Oustin',[17] which Kieran isn't ever interested in participating in.[18] Her constant rudeness begins to impact her younger brother, who she spends a great deal of time telling to be quiet and to ignore,[19][20] routinely berating him for his perspective on the story of the Loyal Three.[21] On the outskirts of the festival, Carmine and the player have a chance encounter with Ogerpon, a Pokémon from local legend that became vilified after a battle with another group of Pokémon called the Loyal Three, which flees after dropping a Teal Mask. Although Carmine feels conflicted, she ultimately decides to lie to Kieran about the event to protect him. Knowing Kieran idolized Ogerpon, she fears he will blame them for missing a chance to meet it.[22] The next morning, Carmine accompanies the player to give the mask back to her grandfather, who reveals Ogerpon's true story to the duo; that the "Loyal" Three were actually a group of bandits who attacked Ogerpon's Trainer and stole three masks made for her by the siblings' distant ancestor; Ogerpon slew the Loyal Three, but the villagers believed she was attacking them and came to fear her. Upon realizing that the ogre was maligned for what really happened, Carmine immediately moves to tell the village of the truth, though her grandfather prevents her hot-headedness from causing trouble; stating that the truth would only make things worse.[23]
The moment that Ogerpon's story is revealed to Carmine in full, she vows to make the Pokémon happy, volunteering to help restore its mask alongside the player.[24] Carmine and the player visit the Crystal Pool to retrieve a Crystal Cluster in order to fix the mask, where she showcases her extreme pride and knowledge surrounding her home. Although her proclivity to refer to those not from Kitakami as "outsiders" causes friction between the girl and others,[7] she appears to have an understanding of the folklore surrounding the Crystal Pool; where she recalls a rumor that you can meet people there who have passed away.[25] This is reinforced by the appearance of Professor Sada or Turo at the lake following the player's capture of Terapagos, as well as with the Milotic in the lake that attacks Carmine and the player, due to it's (albeit unused) Ghost Tera-type.
These clashes with Kieran often lead her to think that these are simply bouts of teenage angst,[1] failing to realize the irony.[26] The villagers, unaware of the truth behind the original tale, both feed the Loyal Three and present them with the three remaining stolen masks. Carmine seems to be good at reading Ogerpon's feelings toward both the player and Kieran,[27][28][29] but fails to realize that it cannot understand her all the same, much to her chagrin.[30] She and the player accompany Ogerpon to track down and battle the now-Titanic-sized Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti, while Kieran returns to Mossui Town to reveal the true nature of Ogerpon's story.
After their journey in Kitakami, she appears to have something heartfelt to tell the player, but is cut short by a phone call telling her to return to the village.[31] Toward the end of The Teal Mask, Carmine realizes that the way she treated those visiting Kitakami was wrong, with her behavior being out of fear that her home was to become a tourist trap for strangers that wouldn't appreciate it.[32] Kieran and Carmine are to return early to Blueberry Academy due to an unexpected development in the Great Crater of Paldea,[33] with Carmine giving the final farewell on behalf of Kieran.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk
Carmine is first brought up during a moment of growth at the beginning of The Indigo Disk, when Cyrano mentions that she was the one to recommend the player to Blueberry Academy.[34] After a short phone call following the player's entry to the Terarium, Carmine reunites with the player. She maintains her cheery attitude towards them from the end of The Indigo Disk, having kept herself busy travelling to many different regions with Briar to aid in her research.[35] She's initially seen talking to Amarys, her good friend at the academy,[36] before challenging the player to a battle.
By the other students at the academy, Carmine is described as self-absorbed, but they find it difficult to hate her in spite of that.[37] Others in her class do view her as somewhat frustrating to deal with, particularly given that she's a part of the student body,[38] a sentiment echoed the Mossui Town Caretaker, suggesting she's acted a certain way for some time.[39] This extends to the other townsfolk of her home, wondering if she finally went berserk after the Loyal Three's Monument was destroyed.[40]
Upon returning to Blueberry Academy, she became concerned for Kieran when noticing a drastic chance in his attitude,[41] which further prompts her to ask the player to look out for him whenever they're at the academy.[42][43]. This concern becomes exacerbated when Carmine sees Kieran become Champion of the BB League, using his authority to bully other students out of the club. She also begrudgingly introduces the player to Drayton, who she sees as nothing but a distrustful pest, often seething when the two are on screen together.[44][45] He constantly brings her to a point of anger, especially when he refers to setting up a "cafeteria date" with the player.[46]
Mochi Mayhem
Over the course of the game, and as mentioned when she returns to Blueberry Academy, she comes to terms with the fact that she's incredibly overprotective of her younger brother, and that she'll dial it back in the future.[47] Carmine never truly sheds her snarky nature, even when gifting the player a pair of Sinistcha-themed Joke Glasses, telling the player that they'll look great on them, and that they should wear them every day.[48]
When interacting with Carmine's desk in her room at the academy, the player seems to acknowledge that she's very neat and organized.[49] Carmine states that she can't swim, although it may be that she just doesn't want to get herself wet, something she states numerous times.[50][51] She is also deeply embarrassed at the events of Mochi Mayhem, shouting at the player if they answer "Well, actually..." when Carmine asks if they recorded any videos of her dancing.[52]
Appearance
Whilst her age is unknown, Carmine herself mentions that she still considers herself to be a kid.[2] Carmine is a tall girl with long, bi-colored black hair.

In animation
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Carmine made her animated series debut in HZ069. During a harvest festival, Carmine was approached by Friede who wanted to know more about her Sinistcha. Not wanting to pay too much attention to him, she sent him away, but with his insistence, the two got into a series of contests, which ended in a Pokémon battle between the two. Frustrated by her defeat, she challenged Friede once more, but after discovering that he was looking for Briar, Carmine revealed that she was her student and where she was at that moment.
Character
Just like in the games, Carmine tends to be distrustful towards people outside of her homeland at first before warming up to them. She has a hot tempered and competitive personality, hates losing and is always looking to challenge other people to various events for the sake of winning. This is shown explicitly when she kept losing to Friede and his Pikachu in various games, only getting more frustrated every time she lost.

Notes
- ↑ She is the older sister of Kieran, who is stated to be an adolescent.[1] When Carmine refers to the village kids, she includes herself among them, implying that she still considers herself to be a kid.[2] In French, she explicitly states that she is still an adolescent.[3] Her actual age is not otherwise known.
