According to Model Naiara at South Paldean Sea, she and Miriam used to work at a Pokémon Center, though they have since drifted apart. After some time, Miriam became the nurse of Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV after failing to qualify as a health instructor. After the player started their Treasure Hunt and relayed their experiences to Miriam, she gradually became inspired to attempt the certification test again and, this time, managed to get herself a teacher's job for the next school year. Miriam later participated in the Academy Ace Tournament.
Miriam and Dendra seem to be close to each other, stating that Dendra would always come visiting the Nurse's Office for an injury or whatnot.

Pokémon Adventures
Miriam debuted in Discover! The Quaking Earth Titan!!. She was first seen asking Clavell about some bedsheets that were taken from the nurse's office while she was away. Upon discovering that Violet was the culprit and using the sheets as a cape, Miriam quickly took them back.
Later, Miriam greeted Penny, who was called into the director's office. Clavell began questioning Penny about the state of the academy before he was hired as Director, but when she started crying, she was allowed to leave without answering. Unbeknownst to Miriam and Clavell, the "Penny" they met with was actually Scarlet in disguise.
Later, the real Penny encountered Miriam, Saguaro, and Dendra at the academy's entrance hall. Dendra tried getting Saguaro to try her sandwich made entirely of meat products despite Miriam's protests that it would result in stomach issues. Saguaro secretly preferred sweets, so he tried to pass the sandwich off to Penny, only for Miriam to help her escape by sending her out the building.

Miriam was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Violet ex expansion and the English Scarlet & Violet expansion, with artwork by Sanosuke Sakuma. An ultra rare version with artwork by the same illustrator, and a special illustration rare version of the card with artwork by Akira Komayama were released in the same sets. It allows the player to shuffle up to five Pokémon from their discard pile back into their deck, and then draw three cards.
Trivia
- All of Miriam's Pokémon may allude to specific types of medicine and healing: Hypno may allude to hypnotherapy and sleeping well, Pincurchin may allude to acupuncture and possibly shock therapy, Sawsbuck and Meganium may allude to aromatherapy and medicinal herbs, Glalie may allude to cryotherapy and possibly cold compresses such as an ice pack, Eelektross may allude to either defibrillation or leeching, and Toxapex may allude to acupuncture once again, as well as the use of tetrodotoxin (a potent neurotoxin found in many marine species, including starfish) in medicine.
- Hypno's Ultra Moon Pokédex entry mentions how the Pokémon is sometimes used in hospitals to assist doctors with patients that are unable to sleep at night, relating to Miriam's profession in the medical field as a nurse.
- With Sawsbuck and Meganium's possible relations to the idea of aromatherapy, there is a move by the same name, Aromatherapy, which cures the user, all Pokémon in the party, and all allies of any status conditions, relating back to the medical theme of Miriam's party. Fittingly, prior to Generation IX, this move could be learned by both Sawsbuck and Meganium.
- Miriam was designed by Mari Shimazaki.[2]
