The Digging Duo (Japanese: 穴掘り兄弟 Digging Brothers) is a pair of non-player characters found at Bridge Field, across from the entrance to the Pokémon Nursery. They are two brothers who share an interest in digging for buried treasure, and give the player any items they find. They both have the appearance of Hikers.

In the core series games

The Digging Duo is a pair of Hiker brothers who specialize in finding items in succession, and offer to begin digging for treasure if the player pays either of them 500 W. The game is automatically saved before each digging session. Upon discovering an item, the player has a chance to stop the digging or to continue, which repeats with each new item dug up until the Hiker eventually tires out. Occasionally after finishing a streak, when the player speaks to the brother who just finished digging, he may continue digging for additional items without charging additional Watts.

The brother on the left—closest to the Pokémon Nursery—focuses on skill, being able to find rarer items, but tires out faster. The brother on the right focuses on stamina, finding less rare items, but also has a higher chance to hold a longer digging streak.

Quotes

Bridge Field
  • If talked to
Skill brother: "All right? Let me tell ya... I've no lack of skill, but when it comes to stamina, my bro's the best! Want me to dig you up some treasure? It'll only cost you 500 W! And a wee moment to save your progress, too."
Stamina brother: "All right? Let me tell ya... I've no lack of stamina, but when it comes to skill, my brother's the best! Want me to dig you up some treasure? It'll only cost you 500 W! And a wee saving of your progress, too."
Dig for me!:
Skill brother: "Thanks for your support! Then I'll dig up the best find I can for ya!"
Stamina brother: "Thanks for your support! Then I'll dig up all I can for ya!"
  • Upon finding an item
"Bingo! It's a <item>!"
"Should I keep digging, then?"
No: "Yeah? Probably wise. I've still got some petrol in the ol' tank, though."
  • Upon reaching the end of the digging streak
"Phew! I'm all tuckered out... I guess that's probably it for this dig!"
  • If the streak continues
"Wait! No! I'm not finished yet! I can still keep on digging!"
"I managed to dig up <number> treasures this time. Take good care of them!"
I'm good:
Skill brother: "That's right? Sure, sure. Come visit us again anytime, though!"
Stamina brother: "That's right? Sure, sure. But no need to be shy. Come ask us anytime!"
What's your best record?:
Skill brother: "My greatest record is <number> treasures in one go. Told you I wasn't lacking in skill, eh?"
Stamina brother: "My greatest record is <number> treasures in one go. Told you I wasn't lacking in stamina, eh?"
