History

Pre-series

Diana in her childhood, finding a mysterious pendant

A few years before turning ten, Diana found in her home a briefcase containing a pendant and a diary with information of an Ancient Adventurer's journey. The text that Diana found in this book motivated her to travel on her own journey to find out if these stories were real. Together with her Growlithe, who would later Evolve into an Arcanine, Diana traveled the world in search of answers, but was unable to find any.

In the midst of her journey in search of answers, Diana met several people. Among them were Tepen, who became a frequent guest on her adventures and who was once trapped for days tied to a net made by the web of an Ariados next to Diana. She had also met Hamber, who she also traveled with a few times in the past.

On one of her trips, Diana sought to learn about the myth of a Lapras that was seen by navigators around the world, but when she arrived at the place she was unable to find what she was looking for as she did not have the right equipment at the time. Although Diana tried several times to solve this mystery, there came a time when she gave up looking.

Diana as a young woman with her Arcanine

However, about thirty years after starting her journey, Diana decided to stop looking for answers about the legend of Lucius and seek information about other myths. Some time later, she became a mother and had a daughter named Lucca, who grew up somewhere in the Kanto region until she eventually moved to Paldea and lived there.

At some unspecified point in the past, she told her daughter, the story of Lucius. This story was also told to her son-in-law, which inspired him to use it as the subject of one of his books.

Approximately one year before the events of The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One), Diana gave a mysterious pendant to her granddaughter. She told Liko that she should trust her Pokémon to face fear and that this pendant would become important for her in the future. Some time after this, Hamber returned, wanting to introduce Diana to Gibeon, who he said had the answers she was looking for. However, Diana saw through his words, as Hamber bringing along a group of subordinates immediately signaled to her that Hamber was working for an organization who were after the pendant, and she subsequently escaped. Fearful for Liko's safety due to her now being in possession of the pendant, she asked her daughter Lucca to call a group of adventurers called the Rising Volt Tacklers to protect Liko and the pendant from the organization Hamber was a part of.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Diana with Lucca and Liko

In The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One), Amethio introduced himself to Liko as someone sent by her grandmother. However, Liko saw through it and got suspicious, prompting her to escape.

Diana debuted in a flashback in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, where Liko remembered in a dream the day she received the pendant as a gift.

Diana reappeared in Welcome to Paldea! during a flashback to Liko's earlier dream.

In The Future I Choose, it was revealed that Diana was living somewhere in the Galar region. Liko and the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers then decided to travel there.

Diana confronting Hamber

Diana first appeared in person at her ancient castle in Reunion at the Ancient Castle!, where she reunited with Liko and met her friends Roy and Friede, who was one of Lucca's students. Diana also met Liko's Pokémon partners Sprigatito and Hatenna, which excited her. Also, Diana reunited with Terapagos and explained her past to Liko and her friends. However, the Explorers, who had been following Liko and her friends, arrived at the castle. Zirc revealed their identity as the Explorers to Diana, shocking her, as she knew the name due to it being tied to Lucius and his companions.

In the next episode, Diana tried to escape with the Rising Volt Tacklers, taking with her research items on Lucius, but she was confronted again by Hamber. After a brief but harsh conversation, in which Diana questioned Hamber why the "Explorers" would be after her and Liko, as they were Lucius's friends, she quickly escaped through a collapsed wall after Sidian caused a commotion nearby and made his presence known, leaving her old friend behind. She used the commotion caused by Coral and Sidian's reckless destruction as cover to escape with her Arcanine and quickly board the Brave Olivine. Later, Diana briefly joined the Rising Volt Tacklers and revealed to Liko some of the secrets she discovered about Lucius and the identities of the other Pokémon he had in ancient times.

In Terapagos's Adventure, Diana attended a lunch with the Rising Volt Tacklers, and later, when she saw that Liko was having difficulty with Terapagos, she helped her and later told more about this Pokémon's past. After that, Diana handed Liko Lucius's belt and entrusted her granddaughter with the care of Terapagos.

In As Long as I'm with My Friends, Diana attended a get-together with the Rising Volt Tacklers in the Wild Area. At night, on the Brave Olivine, she talked to Roy about his goal of finding Rayquaza. Diana also revealed that she would introduce Liko and Roy to a friend of hers who works with antiques. In the next episode, Diana revealed that she was translating a text about Laqua, and indicated the place where Tepen's store was to Liko, Roy and Friede. After discovering that the text was a fraud, Diana met with her granddaughter and her friends who were battling her former traveling partner who had stolen Roy's Ancient Poké Ball. Diana then used Tepen's Bronzor to show him a reflection of his true character, inspiring him to return to his old self and reveal who he intended to sell the Poké Ball to.

Diana meets Lucius's Rayquaza alongside the Rising Volt Tacklers

In Slip and Crash! A Mystery Pokémon?!, Diana was seen talking to Liko about a mysterious liquid that was found aboard the Brave Olivine. Upon hearing the reports, Diana decided to do an experiment with an antique teacup. After the group discovered that it was caused by a wild Polteageist, Diana joined the Rising Volt Tacklers for another get-together, when Friede drank the liquid that was in the antique teacup, Diana revealed that her experiment had worked and a Sinistea emerged from the cup, who joined the other Pokémon aboard the ship.

In Song Within the Mist, Diana heard rumors about the Lapras again, who happened to be one of Lucius's Pokémon, after they got a led through a ship crew that saw the Transport Pokémon. After they group failed to get Lapras to come out, as there was Mist covering it and two Pokémon appeared on the ship, Diana witness a plan Friede devised to get the Transport Pokémon to come back, which worked. In the next episode, Diana helped her friends battle the Pokémon that were attempting to steal food from them. Diana even helped her friends get out of Lapras's Ice Beam, after the Transport Pokémon used the move to freeze the Brave Olivine. After Lapras decided to join the group, Diana and her friends witness the Black Rayquaza arriving at their location.

In Roar of the Black Rayquaza, Diana witnessed Amethio arrive and battle the Black Rayquaza, but he was defeated and Terapagos transformed to battle the Legendary Pokémon. However, after the Black Rayquaza left, Diana told Friede that she planned to travel alone again, intending to investigate the Explorers. Later, Diana did a training battle with Liko and Roy, but the match was called off. In the next episode, Diana attended a surprise party that Liko and Roy setup for her departure, which she appreciated. Before leaving, Diana gave Liko her adventure log. Diana then bid farewell to Liko and the Rising Volt Tacklers.

Diana appeared in a flashback to Liko and Roy's journey in From So Far Away.

Diana driving her Revavroom-attached automobile

In Kleavor the Solitary Warrior, it was revealed that Diana sent her Squawkabilly to Brave Olivine with new information for Liko. In the next episode, Diana reunited with her granddaughter and friends, as she was able to find them through Lucca. Wanting to see how much Liko has grown, Diana challanged her to a battle but, despite the type advantage of her Arcanine over her Floragato, eventually she lost to Liko. After sharing all the information they had, Diana was conducted to the Crystal Pool by her granddaughter and their friends in order to make contact with Rystal, a friend of Lucius. After Rystal was summoned by the lake's power, the group find out that Terapagos used to belong to her. Also, hearing that the baby Rystal was holding had her mother's name, Layla, Diana realized that both she and Lucius were her grandparents. In the following episode, Diana and the group listened to her grandmother's story of how she met her grandfather, travelled with him and how they formed the Explores with Gibeon. Diana also found out that her grandparents were able to reach Laqua and what happened to Lucius. However, Diana had to bid farewell to Rystal, as she and a younger version of her mother had to return to their proper place. After that, Diana left Liko and the Rising Volt Tacklers again, but not before telling the group that her journey with the pendent was over and was going to let her granddaughter finish what she started. Diana then bid farewell to Liko and her friends in order to continue traveling.

A year later, in Friends as Two, Me and You, it was shown that Diana and Hamber reconciled on their own terms. After capturing a wild Pokémon together, Hamber told Diana that Spinel was likely to pursue the Rising Volt Tacklers once again. He also revealed that after the events on Mount Pericarp, five of the Six Heroes fell into Spinel's clutches and are currently held in captivity. Together, they agreed that the key to defeating Spinel's plans laid with Liko and Amethio, who carried Lucius and Gibeon's wills within them.

In Taking the Next Steps, using her newly caught Revavroom to power her car to drive to a distant location, Diana reunited with Liko and the other Rising Volt Tacklers. She then met Ult who had taken her spot on the Brave Olivine, Diana then told Liko of how she reunited with Hamber and how Spinel has the remaining five of the Six Heroes in captivity. Diana speculated how Terapagos would need more than the Six Heroes to get rid of the world's remaining Laquium for good. Upon witnessing Liko's newest partner Charcadet battling against Roy's Crocalor, she decided to have a Double Battle against her granddaughter to test her skills. A double battle then took place with Diana managing to defeat Meowscarada with Arcanine after exploiting Charcadet's chivalrous nature. Charcadet then defeated Wash Rotom and learnt Fire Spin, but despite that Arcanine defeated it with Extreme Speed. After the battle, Diana informed the Rising Volt Tacklers that the remaining heroes are held at an Exceed facility somewhere.

Character

Diana in her early days as a Trainer

As described by Liko, Diana is an adventurer, who travels all over the world and this ends up with her not having a fixed residence, never revealing her whereabouts to her family. After learning more about her grandmother's work, Diana became an inspiration to Liko on her journey, which was further reinforced after important historians like Briar became aware of her research.

Diana and two of her Pokémon

Diana has a very strong appetite, quickly eating her breakfast before others and always requesting seconds. While friendly and cheerful, Diana can also show a very strong temper, as upon discovering her old friend Tepen scammed her, she ordered her Arcanine to burn him to a crisp, but quickly calmed down at Liko's behest.

Since she began traveling with the Rising Volt Tacklers, Diana quickly became close with the group, participating in interactions and meetings with members. During this period, Diana settled on the Brave Olivine's observation deck, where she often uses the telescope and has quick access to the outside of the ship. It's later revealed that Diana managed to form a friendship with Dot, who, despite being quite closed off to people and generally unwilling to interact with them, managed to find a lot in common with the adventurer.

In Slip and Crash! A Mystery Pokémon?!, Diana revealed to Liko that she likes to be alone in a quiet place, especially to read, and occasionally talk while doing so.

In Roar of the Black Rayquaza, Diana revealed that she doesn't do well with technology, which is why she prefers to rely on her Squawkabilly over a Rotom Phone to communicate with people.

As revealed in a flashback in HZ123, Arcanine teamed up with Hamber's Dusknoir to battle a wild Pecharunt near Mossui Town, ultimately ending with Diana catching the Mythical Pokémon for herself.
