(Japanese: ルシアス‎ Lucius), also known as the (Japanese: いにしえの冒険者 Ancient Adventurer), is a recurring character in Pokémon Horizons: The Series. He is the main reason Roy wanted to become a Trainer, and the truth behind his legend serves as one of his motivations.

History

Lucius meeting his Pokémon partners in Alex's books

The Ancient Adventurer was first mentioned by Roy when describing his feats to Liko in The Treasure After the Storm!. According to him, the Ancient Adventurer traveled through different regions and captured several Legendary Pokémon and treasures around the world. A group of his friends came to be collectively known as the Explorers.

He briefly appeared in a fantasy in The Ancient Poké Ball when Roy told his grandfather about his dreams.

Photograph of Lucius

In HZ012, just after the Rising Volt Tacklers helped restore a forest that had been destroyed by a wildfire, the Pokémon in Liko's pendant came to life. With Arboliva's assistance, the Pokémon showed Liko and Roy a vision of the past where Lucius asked Arboliva to look for something. Later, Liko and Roy read a book by Liko's father that told the history of Lucius's adventures, based on stories told by Liko's grandmother Diana. Lucius appeared again in a vision for Liko, Roy, and Friede in HZ023. This time, the mysterious adventurer was seen talking to Moltres about achieving something called "Rakua".

In HZ024, Diana revealed that she found a diary in her childhood with memories of Lucius's adventures. She also revealed that Rakua is the name of the paradise that Lucius was looking for and that at some point Terapagos was with Lucius on this journey.

In HZ026, Diana showed Liko a photograph of Lucius.

In HZ032, Lucius appeared in another flashback, this time showing the ancient adventurer at the entrance to Rakua and saying goodbye to his former companions.

Character

Although much of Lucius is based on legend and myth, his deeds have resonated for years. During the flashbacks in which he was seen, it was shown that Lucius has a deep connection with his Pokémon.

Lucius's belt

A hundred years ago, Lucius traveled with the Black Rayquaza and five Pokémon he encountered throughout the various regions he traveled. Collectively, they are known as the (Japanese: 六英雄 Six Heroes). In an as-yet-unexplained way, Lucius's Poké Balls have been scattered around the world.

Lucius kept all his Pokémon in an Ancient Poké Ball.

This listing is of Lucius's known Pokémon in the anime:

Roaming the world

Rayquaza
In ancient times, Lucius traveled with six Pokémon, referred to as the "Six Heroes". They all worked together towards a single goal, and each of them had a specific purpose. One of these Pokémon was a Black Rayquaza, which appeared to be leader of the group along with Lucius himself.

Years ago, Roy's grandfather found a mysterious Poké Ball on the beach of his hometown. Many years later, he gave this item to his grandson. Unbeknownst to him, the mysterious Poké Ball contained the Black Rayquaza inside of it. In The Ancient Poké Ball, Liko's pendant caused Rayquaza to emerge from its Poké Ball and, after a brief battle with those present on the island, flew away in the direction of Paldea.

In HZ012, it was revealed that Rayquaza was Lucius's main Pokémon and that about a hundred years ago, it traveled the world with him and found five other Pokémon that became his allies in the search for the promised paradise, receiving the title "Six Heroes".

Rayquaza's only known move is Draco Meteor.

Terapagos
Main article: Terapagos (anime)

In HZ024, Diana revealed that Terapagos traveled with Lucius at some point in his journey, but it unlike the others, it is not part of the Six Heroes and does not appear to have been caught by Lucius, making the full details of their relationship still a mystery.

Arboliva
In ancient times, Lucius traveled with six Pokémon, referred to as the "Six Heroes". They all worked together towards a single goal, and each of them had a specific purpose. One of these Pokémon was an oversized Arboliva, which was used to "heal wounds".

Arboliva made its debut as a guardian of a forest that Liko, Roy, and Mollie visited. Around its neck was the same type of Poké Ball that had contained the Black Rayquaza that Roy was looking for. In HZ012, Arboliva helped Liko and her friends restore the forest. After completely healing the forest, Arboliva returned to its Poké Ball and decided to be under the care of Liko.

None of Arboliva's moves are known and its Ability is Seed Sower.

Debut HZ011

Moltres
In ancient times, Lucius traveled with six Pokémon, referred to as the "Six Heroes". They all worked together towards a single goal, and each of them had a specific purpose. One of these Pokémon was an oversized Galarian Moltres, which was used to "race through the sky".

Galarian Moltres was the third Pokémon revealed from Lucius's party. Liko and Roy found it in the Galar Mine, where it easily overpowered them, forcing them to retreat, leaving Friede and Amethio to confront it instead before escaping as well. Moltres was then confronted by Liko, Roy, and Friede again, but this time with the Trainers being successfully able to hold their own in battle with their Pokémon, allowing them to calm it down with Sprigatito's aromatic leafage with help from Lucius's Arboliva, Moltres eventually calmed down enough to return to its Ancient Poké Ball, allowing itself to be taken care of by Liko and the others.

Moltres's known moves are Air Slash, Fiery Wrath, Wing Attack, and Hurricane.

Debut HZ022

Lapras
In ancient times, Lucius traveled with six Pokémon, referred to as the "Six Heroes". They all worked together towards a single goal, and each of them had a specific purpose. One of these Pokémon was an oversized Lapras, which was used to "cross the seas".

At the end of their adventures, these Pokémon found the promised paradise. At some point after these adventures, these Pokémon scattered across the world.

Lapras would then be discovered by the Rising Volt Tacklers in HZ031. Sometime after being separated from Lucius, Lapras began helping guide ships lost at sea. In reality, this was merely a ruse to help a group of wild Pokémon steal food from unsuspecting humans. In the next episode, Liko was able to convince Lapras to come with her so it could help lead Terapagos to Rakua.

Lapras's known moves are Mist and Ice Beam.

Trivia

  • Lucius is the first character in the anime to have officially owned a Shiny Legendary Pokémon.
  • It is heavily implied that Lucius possesses some relations to Liko's family; not only do they possess the same hair color, but Diana found an old suitcase containing notes of his journey and a dormant Terapagos from her home as a child.
