Jasmine (Japanese: ミカン Mikan) is the Gym Leader of Olivine City's Gym, known officially as the Olivine Gym. Her specialty is Steel Pokémon, and she gives the Mineral to Trainers who defeat her in battle. She also appears in Sinnoh to give Trainers 07 and to compete in Sinnoh's Super Contests.
In the core series games
Jasmine appears in as the Gym Leader of the Olivine Gym. Her title in these games is "The Steel-Clad Defense Girl." She also appears in Diamond, and their remakes.

In the games
Jasmine is a shy girl who has trouble speaking. She is compassionate, and when Amphy, the Ampharos in the Olivine Lighthouse, falls ill, Jasmine looks after it. Amphy will only take the medicine the player brings from Jasmine.

Jasmine appears in as the Gym Leader of the Olivine Gym. Her title in these games is "The Steel-Clad Defense Girl." She also appears in Diamond.

Jasmine is a very shy girl and has trouble speaking. She is a compassionate girl, and when the Ampharos in Glitter Lighthouse (nicknamed Amphy) falls ill, Jasmine is so worried she cannot even smile. Amphy and Jasmine appear to be close, because once medicine is brought for Amphy, it will only take it from her.
When the player first meets Jasmine, she will refuse to battle, as she is busy caring for Amphy. She requests that a special medicine be brought from the Cianwood City pharmacy. When it is retrieved, she uses it to heal the Ampharos and returns to the Gym afterwards. In battle, she uses the newly-discovered Steel Pokémon, but a Gentleman in the Lighthouse says she used to train Rock Pokémon such as Onix. Once defeated, she will yield the Mineral and 23.

Typically Jasmine is the sixth Gym Leader to be challenged in the Johto region, although she is the fifth to be encountered. When she is first met she will refuse to battle the player, as she is busy taking care of a sick Ampharos. She requests that a special medicine be brought from the Cianwood City pharmacy. When it is retrieved, she will heal the Ampharos and return to the Gym. In battle, she uses the recently-discovered Steel Pokémon, but it's said that she recently used to train a different type. A Gentleman in the Lighthouse says she used to train Rock Pokémon, like Onix. Once defeated she will yield the Mineral and 23.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine can be fought multiple times in Saffron City's Fighting Dojo. She will use a stronger team here but will not appear until her Pokégear phone number has been obtained at the Olivine City diner. She goes there every afternoon, between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, and will afterwards travel to Kanto for battles on Wednesday afternoons. After exchanging numbers at the diner, visiting Jasmine at her Gym in Olivine will cause her to offer to make a trade with the player, although the player will need to talk to Jasmine a second time because she will be nervous about it. She offers a Steelix nicknamed Rusty that holds a Soothe Bell. She will accept any Pokémon in exchange, being the first in-game trade where this is possible. Rusty isn't the same as her battling Steelix, as Rusty is male whereas the other is female.

She goes there every afternoon, between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, and will afterwards travel to Kanto for battles on Wednesday afternoons. After defeating her in a rematch, visiting Jasmine at her Gym in Olivine will cause her to offer to make a trade with the player. However, the player will need to talk to Jasmine a second time because she will be nervous. She offers a Steelix nicknamed Rusty (Japanese: ネール Neil) (OT: 26491) that holds a Soothe Bell. She will accept any Pokémon in exchange.

In Diamond, Jasmine is staying in Sunyshore City for a while, which she says reminds her of home with its lighthouse and its location on the sea. She also occasionally enters Super Contests with her Steelix, which is nicknamed Rusty (Japanese: ネール Neil). She gives the player 07 after defeating the eighth Gym Leader, Volkner. A conversation with Erika in HeartGold and SoulSilver places Jasmine's appearance in Sinnoh after the main plot of the Johto games.
In Diamond, and their respective remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Jasmine is staying in Sunyshore City for a while, which she says reminds her of home with its lighthouse and its location on the sea. She also occasionally enters Master Rank Super Contests with her Steelix, nicknamed Rusty. She gives the player HM07/TM99 (Waterfall) after defeating the eighth Gym Leader, Volkner. A conversation with Erika in HeartGold and SoulSilver would seem to suggest Jasmine's appearance in Sinnoh occurs after the plot of the Johto games.

Main series
History
Original series
Jasmine debuted in Fight for the Light!, where she interrupted Ash's Gym battle because her apprentice Janina was pretending to be the official Gym Leader. Jasmine went on to dismiss Janina for impersonating her and also covering her Onix in wax to repel normally effective Water attacks. Jasmine apologized to Ash on Janina's behalf and added that she would battle him when her Ampharos was feeling better.

:"Um... I don't know how to say this, but good luck..."
Ash and ashfr later visited the Shining Lighthouse and met up with Jasmine, her grandfather Myron, and her Ampharos, nicknamed Sparkle. Later, Jasmine and the others fled the lighthouse after James had his James smother them with its thick Smog. TRT kidnapped Sparkle, and incidentally Brock, though Janina and her Onix managed to rescue the pair, after which Ash sent the trio blasting off. After seeing Janina's heroism, Jasmine sent her young apprentice along with Ash and his friends to collect some medicine for Sparkle from Cianwood City.

Fighting Dojo
In Machoke, Machoke Man!, Ash and the others arrived in Cianwood, and Janina took an express service back to Olivine City to deliver the medicine. Janina later called Ash to inform him that Jasmine was still not up to battling because she was concerned for Sparkle. Following Chuck's suggestion, the group took a detour through the Whirl Islands and later returned to Olivine City in Throwing in the Noctowl for Ash's match.
*Before battle
:"We're here as we promised... Are you prepared?"

*After being defeated
Jasmine and her Jasmine helped Ash recover his Pikachu from Team Rocket before sending them blasting off in Nerves of Steelix!. Ash and Jasmine later had their Gym battle. Though Pikachu defeated Jasmine's Magnemite in the first round, he was left exhausted and was later defeated by Steelix. In the final round, Cyndaquil faced off against Steelix. The round proved to be difficult for both sides, but Cyndaquil eventually claimed victory after it used Flamethrower to transform Steelix's Sandstorm attack into a powerful fire whirl. Jasmine subsequently gave Ash his sixth Badge, the Mineral.
:"True to your reputation..."

Pokégear Registering (Olivine Cafe)
She later reappeared in a flashback in Why? Wynaut!.
:"Hi! ...! These empty dishes in front of me are not all mine... Er... Actually, the person who sat here ahead of me ate a lot... Anyway, do you want to exchange phone numbers?"
::Yes: "Now we can contact each other anytime. I should be able to battle you around noon on Wednesdays. I'll be waiting for your call!"
::No: "Oh... I understand..."
:"Did you change your mind? Will you exchange numbers?"

:"Hello... How are you? I'm doing well, thanks. There are so many other Trainers out there who are much stronger than me... You should challenge them and see."
After a long absence, Jasmine reappeared in Sunyshore City, wearing her Generation IV outfit, in Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port!. Ash and his friends were surprised to see her again as she watched Kenny practice some of his Contest combinations. Jasmine explained that she was traveling around and studying Contest Battles to become stronger. After Flint rescued the group from Team Rocket, Jasmine asked him for a battle and he accepted. Jasmine's battle style hadn't changed much, however, and Flint's Infernape knocked out her Steelix with a Flare Blitz.
:"Hello... How are you? I'm doing well, thanks. I'm usually free on Wednesdays around noon. I could spare some time... Why don't you call me again then..."

*Calling you:
Jasmine joined Ash and his friends back at the Pokémon Center, where she told Dawn about her fears about being a Gym Leader and explained that it was important for a person to follow their own path. The following day, Jasmine announced that while she enjoyed her journey, she would return to her position as the Olivine Gym Leader to continue her training.
:"This is Jasmine. How do I sound? Healthy? Warden Baoba at the Safari Zone... He came over to my Gym once to introduce himself... He talks a little differently, doesn't he? I heard it's called anastrophe..."

Character
{| align="center" style="20px border: 2px solid #steel color dark; background: #steel color;"
Jasmine is typically gentle and soft-spoken, though in battle, she is markedly more confident and somewhat aggressive, making this a notable departure from her in-game personality. In Nerves of Steelix!, she was not afraid to take on TRT and was quite vocal in letting Ash know that she wouldn't go easy on him during battle. Jasmine holds herself to account in her role as Olivine City's Gym Leader and also expects these standards to be upheld by her apprentices. She is, however, very mindful of her limitations and will seek time away from her Gym Leader duties to collect herself.

In the anime
Her battle strategy is simply to attack her opponent's Pokémon. Jasmine's handling of Jasmine in Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port! was much the same as her strategy during her battle against Ash in Nerves of Steelix!. In both cases, she was reliant on Steelix's Iron Tail and Sandstorm. She, however, hopes to implement changes like adding offensive techniques to improve her skills as Gym Leader.

Jasmine appears in Fight for the Light and Nerves of Steelix.

In the anime, Jasmine runs the Glitter Lighthouse in Olivine City. She used her Ampharos to light the way over the shore, but when it became ill, she asked Ash to fetch it some medicine from Cianwood City. Ash and his friends retrieved the medicine and sent it back with one of Jasmine's young apprentices, Janina.

Several weeks later, Ash and his friends returned from the Whirl Islands and Ash challenged Jasmine to a Gym battle. Ash used Cyndaquil and was able to defeat Jasmine's Steelix.

Compared to other media, where she is typically depicted as meek and soft-spoken, the anime version of Jasmine is markedly more confident, and even aggressive during Gym battles. She makes a powerful introduction, leaping from a cliff and gracefully landing on her Steelix. She is not afraid to take on Team Rocket, and is quite vocal in letting Ash know she won't go easy on him during battle.

She appeared in Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port! in her HeartGold and SoulSilver outfit, where she is having a special training session with Kenny. She later asked Flint if she could battle him and he accepted. The battle resulted in his Infernape knocking out her Steelix.

Later in the same episode she sent it out in her Gym Battle with Ash. It easily defeated Ash's Pikachu, and Ash called out his Cyndaquil. ====History====
Gold, Silver & Crystal
Jasmine debuted in Gligar Glide, being called by the Day-Care Man. She was told to come over, as the Egg her two Togetic produced hatched into Gold's Togepi, Togebo. As she passed through Ecruteak City on her way there, an earthquake caused by Team Rocket ravaged the area. She managed to escape most of the chaos by escaping to the Bell Tower, but the shaking caused her to get caught in the rubble. Using Amphy as a distress signal, she caught the attention of both Gold and Silver, who arrived to help. They managed to rescue her before the tower collapsed and sent Jasmine off to safety on Amphy's back. Unaware of the identities of her saviors, Jasmine helped with getting Ecruteak City back to normal.

In the lighthouse
Jasmine was seen again in Buzz Off, Butterfree!, where she supervised the rebuilding of the Tin Tower in Morty's absence. She soon met Yellow and Wilton, where Yellow was able to put out a fire at the Burned Tower and free the Legendary beasts that were imprisoned inside.

At the Indigo Plateau, Jasmine arrives with her fellow Johto Gym Leaders to participate in an exhibition tournament for the Pokémon League against the Kanto Gym Leaders. In the first round, she faces off against the Pewter City Gym Leader, Brock. She surprises everyone by using Steelix, a new Pokémon that no one had known about. Since he knew nothing about Steelix or even its type, Brock is eventually defeated. Professor Oak reveals to everyone the discovery of the new Steel, in which Jasmine specializes. When the Masked Man attacks the Pokémon League, Jasmine and the other Gym Leaders combat his army of mind-controlled Team Rocket Grunts. The fight takes them to the Magnet Train, which is used as a diversion to get the Gym Leaders away from the stadium. In Perturbed by Pachirisu, Jasmine makes a cameo appearance. She is seen together with Fantina, on their way to the Master Rank Super Contest in Hearthome City.
Jasmine initially left her Gym to see Togebo, the egg of her two Togetic that Gold hatched for her. However, on her way Jasmine was caught in an earthquake caused by Team Rocket while traveling through Ecruteak City. Gold was to journey there to help her as instructed by the elderly couple at the Day Care. She had climbed the Tin Tower to get away from the shaking and had been caught in some rubble. Using Ampharos to send off a distress flare, she caught the attention of both Gold and Silver.  Silver originally saved her, but Gold believed that Silver had in some way contributed to her injuries. Silver handed her over to Gold and was later given to Amphy, who rushed her out of the tower under Gold's orders before it collapsed, leaving the young rivals trapped in the tower.

Jasmine later managed to recover, unaware of Gold and Silver's efforts to rescue her (as she had not the consciousness to have any memory of the events). At the Pokémon League Tournament, she fought against Brock. She covered her Steelix in rubble to make it look like an Onix, thinking that the newly-discovered Steel Pokémon would be too horrifying for people to see. Steelix's type advantage gave it away, and the rubble was eventually cleared off to reveal her Steelix's nature. She later reasoned that she doesn't like to show off.

Trivia
Trivia
* Her Japanese Leader title is 鉄壁ガードの女の子.
* Jasmine's Japanese Leader title is 鉄壁ガードの女の子.
* She is the only female Gym Leader of Johto that admits defeat.
* In Generation III, a Jasmine lookalike, along with Whitney and Pryce's, can be seen as an audience member in a Pokémon Contest.
** She is also the only female Johto Gym Leader that is not voiced by Megan Hollingshead in English.
* When rematched in , the levels of Jasmine's Pokémon are the highest of all of the Johto Gym Leaders, despite her typically being the sixth Gym Leader. Her Steelix reaches level 62, while the maximum of any other Johto Gym Leader is level 60.
* Jasmine appears to be watching the Contests in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald and in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Whitney and Pryce appear in the audience as well.
* As seen in HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine's Trainer ID number is 26491.
* The Olivine City Gym is the only Gym in Johto that does not have any Trainers other than its leader.
** She shares her Trainer ID number with an NPC in the Generation II games named Kim who offers an Aerodactyl for a Chansey on 14.
* Jasmine is the first Gym Leader to appear in all five versions of a generation, as well as the first Gym Leader to appear outside of her home region in the games (she, along with both Brock and Misty, take this honor in the anime).
* Jasmine is the first Trainer known to have changed her type specialization overall, the second being Bede, who used to train Psychic before becoming the Fairy expert he currently is.
* In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine uses an Empoleon in her team in a rematch against the player. This makes her the third gym leader to use a starter Pokémon, or one of its evolutions, and one of two to use a different region's starter, the other being Clair and her Charizard.
* In all the Johto-based games, Jasmine appears before Pryce in the Badge case, but her Steelix's level is higher than the levels of all of Pryce's Pokémon.
** Coincidentally, both Jasmine and Clair have a pseudo-legendary Pokémon in their rematch party, Metagross and Dragonite respectively.
* When rematched in HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine's levels are actually the highest of all of the Johto leaders, despite her typically being the sixth leader; her Steelix reaches level 62, while the maximum of any other Johto leader is level 60.
* Jasmine appears as an opponent in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. She uses a Steelix to battle.
* The moveset of Jasmine's team in Generation IV is almost completely identical to the moveset in Generation II - the only difference is her Steelix knows Sandstorm instead of Sunny Day.
* In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine can be found in Celadon City with Erika. Erika is apparently trying to convince Jasmine to go participate in Pokémon Super Contests in Sinnoh, but when the conversation continues, Jasmine indicates that she has already been to Sinnoh.
** Since Jasmine adds that she was unable to participate in a Super Contest, and Erika urges her to try again, this suggests that the conversation takes place between Jasmine's visits to Sunyshore City and Hearthome City. This means that the Johto games are essentially contemporary with the Sinnoh ones.
* Jasmine is the only in-game trade in the series that doesn't require the player to have a specific Pokémon to give.
** Due to the nickname of the Steelix she trades to the player in HeartGold and SoulSilver, some believe it to be the same Steelix Jasmine uses in Super Contests in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. If this is the case, HeartGold and SoulSilver's story ends after that of the Sinnoh games.
** The aforementioned Steelix's ID is 26491. This is the same ID as the Aerodactyl players can receive in an in-game trade in the original .
* Jasmine is currently the only female Steel-type specialist.

Jasmine (Japanese: ミカン Mikan) is the Gym Leader of Olivine City's Gym, known officially as the Olivine Gym. She specializes in Steel-type Pokémon, and she gives the Mineral Badge to Trainers who defeat her in battle. She also appears in Sinnoh to give Trainers HM07 (Waterfall) and to compete in Sinnoh's Super Contests.

In the core series games

Jasmine appears in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver as the Gym Leader of the Olivine Gym. Her title in these games is "The Steel-Clad Defense Girl." She also appears in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, and their remakes.

Jasmine is a shy girl who has trouble speaking. She is compassionate, and when Amphy, the Ampharos in the Olivine Lighthouse, falls ill, Jasmine looks after it. Amphy will only take the medicine the player brings from Jasmine.

When the player first meets Jasmine, she will refuse to battle, as she is busy caring for Amphy. She requests that a special medicine be brought from the Cianwood City pharmacy. When it is retrieved, she uses it to heal the Ampharos and returns to the Gym afterwards. In battle, she uses the newly-discovered Steel-type Pokémon, but a Gentleman in the Lighthouse says she used to train Rock-type Pokémon such as Onix. Once defeated, she will yield the Mineral Badge and TM23 (Iron Tail).

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Jasmine can be fought multiple times in Saffron City's Fighting Dojo.

Jasmine in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, and their respective remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Jasmine is staying in Sunyshore City for a while, which she says reminds her of home with its lighthouse and its location on the sea. She also occasionally enters Master Rank Super Contests with her Steelix, nicknamed Rusty. She gives the player HM07DPPt/TM99BDSP (Waterfall) after defeating the eighth Gym Leader, Volkner. A conversation with Erika in HeartGold and SoulSilver would seem to suggest Jasmine's appearance in Sinnoh occurs after the plot of the Johto games.

History

Original series

Jasmine in the original series

Jasmine debuted in Fight for the Light!, where she interrupted Ash's Gym battle because her apprentice Janina was pretending to be the official Gym Leader. Jasmine went on to dismiss Janina for impersonating her and also covering her Onix in wax to repel normally effective Water attacks. Jasmine apologized to Ash on Janina's behalf and added that she would battle him when her Ampharos was feeling better.

Ash and his friends later visited the Shining Lighthouse and met up with Jasmine, her grandfather Myron, and her Ampharos, nicknamed Sparkle. Later, Jasmine and the others fled the lighthouse after James had his Weezing smother them with its thick Smog. Team Rocket kidnapped Sparkle, and incidentally Brock, though Janina and her Onix managed to rescue the pair, after which Ash sent the trio blasting off. After seeing Janina's heroism, Jasmine sent her young apprentice along with Ash and his friends to collect some medicine for Sparkle from Cianwood City.

Jasmine and her Steelix helped Ash recover his Pikachu from Team Rocket before sending them blasting off in Nerves of Steelix!. Jasmine subsequently gave Ash his sixth Badge, the Mineral Badge.

She later reappeared in a flashback in Why? Wynaut!.

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl

Character

Jasmine is typically gentle and soft-spoken, though in battle, she is markedly more confident and somewhat aggressive, making this a notable departure from her in-game personality. In Nerves of Steelix!, she was not afraid to take on Team Rocket and was quite vocal in letting Ash know that she wouldn't go easy on him during battle. Jasmine holds herself to account in her role as Olivine City's Gym Leader and also expects these standards to be upheld by her apprentices. She is, however, very mindful of her limitations and will seek time away from her Gym Leader duties to collect herself.

Her battle strategy is simply to attack her opponent's Pokémon. Jasmine's handling of Steelix in Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port! was much the same as her strategy during her battle against Ash in Nerves of Steelix!. In both cases, she was reliant on Steelix's Iron Tail and Sandstorm. She, however, hopes to implement changes like adding offensive techniques to improve her skills as Gym Leader.

This is a listing of Jasmine's known Pokémon in the anime:

Magnemite
Jasmine's Magnemite debuted in Fight for the Light!, where it was first seen riding on Jasmine's shoulder, something it did throughout the entire episode. It was also the first Pokémon that Jasmine used in her Gym battle with Ash in Nerves of Steelix!, where it was faced off against Ash's Pikachu. Despite proving itself to be very fast and pretty strong, it exhausted itself and was finally knocked out by Pikachu's Quick Attack.

Magnemite's only known move is Thunder Wave.

History

Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

In Delibird Delivery - 1, Jasmine appeared in Professor Elm's fantasy when informing Gold that the Masked Man may be a Gym Leader.

Professor Oak reveals to everyone the discovery of the new Steel-type, in which Jasmine specializes. When the Masked Man attacks the Pokémon League, Jasmine and the other Gym Leaders combat his army of mind-controlled Team Rocket Grunts. The fight takes them to the Magnet Train, which is used as a diversion to get the Gym Leaders away from the stadium. After the Masked Man is defeated, Jasmine returned to her usual duties as a Gym Leader.

Jasmine when she was younger

Jasmine first appeared in A Spectacular Battle To Save Ampharos where she wanted Gold to lend her his Croconaw. She wanted his Croconaw because she needed to get to Cianwood City to get medicine to cure her Ampharos's sickness. Jasmine, Gold, and Chris went around Olivine City to find a big Water-type Pokémon. They had no luck though. She found a Gyarados fighting a Wartortle in the middle of a busy street.

Even though it belonged to Black, Gold wanted to borrow it and they had a battle. Black chose Gyarados as the Pokémon to battle with against Gold's Pikachu. Jasmine tried convincing Black to not use Gyarados, but Black retorted by saying that nothing is fair in a real battle. When Pikachu stood no chance against Gyarados, Jasmine took Gold's place. Using her Steelix, she finished Gyarados with one Iron Tail. As Gyarados had been defeated, the group was unable to use it.

The town volunteered to build a raft for the group to use while the captain provided a map for them to go to Cianwood City. As they got on, it was unable to carry them as it can only carry two people. Jasmine decided to go there by herself but Gold and Chris were willing to go there instead. Jasmine stayed behind to look after Amphy while Gold and Chris went on to Cianwood City.

After Gold and Chris had sent the medicine to heal Ampharos to Jasmine, she and the citizens of Olivine traveled to Cianwood City to provide support in stopping the Black Tyranitar's rampage.
