Weather Ball (Japanese: ウェザーボール Weather Ball) is a damage-dealing Normal move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation IV, it was the signature move of Castform. It was TM46 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM193 in Generation IX.

Effect
Effect
When no weather condition is under effect, Weather Ball deals damage of the Normal. During any weather condition, Weather Ball attacks with a different type and its base power doubles to 100. The type that Weather Ball is depends on the weather conditions at the time it is used. It will be:
Weather Ball deals damage. When the weather is clear, Weather Ball is a Normal move. During any type of weather except strong winds, Weather Ball's power doubles to 100. (Type-based power boosts from weather apply as normal, in addition to Weather Ball's effect.)
* Fire if Sunny Day is under effect.
* Water if Rain Dance is under effect.
* Ice if Hail is under effect.
* Rock if Sandstorm is under effect.
* Normal if weather conditions is under effect or there is no special weather condition in effect.
* Shadow move (and therefore typeless) if Shadow Sky is under effect (in only).

Type power-ups from the weather will be put into effect, as well as STAB caused by Castform's type changing from its ability, Forecast.
Weather Ball's type changes depending on the weather at the time it is used.
* Normal if there is no weather, it is foggy, or there are strong winds.
* Fire if it is sunny.
* Water if it is raining.
* Ice if it is hailing or snowing.
* Rock if there is a sandstorm.

Weather Ball can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 4 bonus appeal points if Hail, Rain Dance, Sandstorm, or Sunny Day was used in the previous turn. It is also part of a Contest Spectacular combination, giving the user three extra appeal points if a weather summoning move was used in the prior turn.

Generation III
Because damage category depends on the type of the move in Generation III, Weather Ball's category depends on its type. Unlike Hidden Power where Counter always activates while Mirror Coat never does, Weather Ball will activate Mirror Coat if it is a special move.

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, when used during a shadowy aura, Weather Ball's power doubles to 100, and the move becomes a Type physical move; as a typeless move, it bypasses Wonder Guard, deals regular damage against all Pokémon regardless of types, and the user does not receive STAB. (If a Pokémon with Color Change is hit by typeless Weather Ball, it becomes Normal.)

Generation IV
Weather Ball is affected by Normalize.

Generation V onwards
Weather Ball is unaffected by Normalize, Pixilate, Refrigerate, Aerilate, and Galvanize. However, it is affected by Ion Deluge (if the move would be Normal-type) and Electrify.

Weather Ball has no effect on targets with Bulletproof.

When used as a Z-Move with Normalium Z, Weather Ball will be turned into Breakneck Blitz, but then Breakneck Blitz will turn into the Z-Move of the type corresponding to the type Weather Ball would be in that weather. This does not occur if Weather Ball is turned into a Z-Move via another move like Sleep Talk.

The same effect happens when Weather Ball is used as a Max Move, displaying as Max Strike but changing into the appropriate Max Move or G-Max Move corresponding to the type Weather Ball would be in the current weather.

Pokémon GO
section
In Pokémon GO, the Fire, Ice, and Water Weather Ball moves are Charged Attacks that have been available since March 30, 2019. The Rock Weather Ball move is a Charged Attack that has replaced the Normal Weather Ball on May 31, 2021. On August 30, 2021, the Normal-type Weather Ball was added back to the game with updated stats. Unlike in the core series, Weather Ball's type is fixed and does not depend on the weather. The game's data instead stores its type variations as separate move entries.

Weather Ball (Japanese: ウェザーボール Weather Ball) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation IV, it was the signature move of Castform. It was TM46 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM193 in Generation IX.

Effect

Weather Ball deals damage. When the weather is clear, Weather Ball is a Normal-type move. During any type of weather except strong winds, Weather Ball's power doubles to 100. (Type-based power boosts from weather apply as normal, in addition to Weather Ball's effect.)

Weather Ball's type changes depending on the weather at the time it is used.

In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, when used during a shadowy aura, Weather Ball's power doubles to 100, and the move becomes a typeless physical move; as a typeless move, it bypasses Wonder Guard, deals regular damage against all Pokémon regardless of types, and the user does not receive STAB. (If a Pokémon with Color Change is hit by typeless Weather Ball, it becomes Normal-type.)

In Pokémon GO, the Fire-type, Ice-type, and Water-type Weather Ball moves are Charged Attacks that have been available since March 30, 2019. The Rock-type Weather Ball move is a Charged Attack that has replaced the Normal-type Weather Ball on May 31, 2021. On August 30, 2021, the Normal-type Weather Ball was added back to the game with updated stats. Unlike in the core series, Weather Ball's type is fixed and does not depend on the weather. The game's data instead stores its type variations as separate move entries.

Trivia

 • Despite Weather Ball becoming a Rock-type move in a sandstorm, Castform itself will not change form under these conditions.
 • Prior to Generation IV, Weather Ball was one of the only two moves (along with Hidden Power) which could be either physical or special, due to the damage category being determined by the type.
