Vanilluxe (Japanese: バイバニラ Baivanilla) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Vanillish starting at level 47. It is the final form of Vanillite.

Biology

Vanilluxe with and without its snow in fan-art by its designer, James Turner.

Vanilluxe is a two-headed Pokémon covered in swirled, white snow that overall resembles two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. It is the result of two Vanillish stuck together after a daylight melting and nighttime freezing process. Each head has two light purple eyes and a mouth. There are light blue ice crystals to the side of each eye and two under each mouth. It has two stubby arms and three spikes under its body, all of which resemble icicles. The middle spike under its body is the largest, and there is a hollow, straw-like structure on top of the left head. On the back of its two heads there are many small ice crystals.

Vanilluxe has a body temperature of about 21 °F (−6 °C). It ingests large quantities of water, which it uses to create internal snow clouds. If it loses a head, it can still live problem-free. When its two heads are in agreement or simultaneously angered, it can expel powerful blizzards from its two mouths. It can create snow anywhere, which makes it popular among skiers and snowboarders.

Trivia

Origin

Vanilluxe is based on a soft serve ice cream served in an ice cream cone, with snow for scoops and ice for the waffle cone.[2] Specifically, its double-scoop appearance and head appendage resemble a double 99 cone with a chocolate bar stuck in it. The appendage on its head also resembles a wafer straw cookie. Additionally, Vanilluxe has bits of ice on its heads that resemble sprinkled nut topping. The 'cone' itself resembles icicles.

According to James Turner, Vanilluxe is also based on American food mascots such as the Pillsbury Doughboy or Grimace, as well as the "Stay-Puft" Marshmallow Man from the 1984 supernatural comedy film Ghostbusters. Turner stated that Vanilluxe's design is meant to evoke "that blend of cute/goofy/creepy/happy" apparent among mascot designs.[3]

Name origin

Vanilluxe may be a combination of vanilla and deluxe.

Baivanilla may be a combination of bi- (prefix meaning two) or 倍 bai (double) and vanilla.
