The area is located at the very peak of Mount Coronet, and is the ultimate goal of Team Galactic's plot. It is here that Cyrus summons DialgaDBD or PalkiaPSP or both of themPt to claim the Legendary Pokémon's powers and create a new universe for himself, free of emotion. Mars and Jupiter battle against the player and their rival, standing in the way before the player can reach Cyrus.
In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Cyrus uses a Red Chain created from the gems of the lake trio to summon DialgaDBD or PalkiaPSP and have it start creating a new universe, creating distortions in timeDBD or dimensionsPSP, which are visible throughout Sinnoh. However, before the new galaxy can be born, the lake guardians arrive and destroy the Red Chain, freeing the Legendary Pokémon from Cyrus's control. Angered by this, Cyrus then battles the player. After being defeated, Cyrus and the other Team Galactic members leave Spear Pillar, with Cyrus swearing to one day succeed in his plans. Afterwards, Professor Rowan shows up with Lucas/Dawn and the player has a chance to battle and catch the Legendary Pokémon.
In Pokémon Platinum, Cyrus summons both Dialga and Palkia to the Spear Pillar, using two Red Chains: one from the gems of the lake trio, and the other an artificial copy. The power of Dialga and Palkia together is too great for the lake trio to counterbalance as they did in Diamond and Pearl, and so the Pokémon world is shortly doomed. Just when Cyrus believes himself to have won, he feels the presence of Giratina, angered by his actions to destroy the world. Giratina appears between Cyrus and the other two, warping the ancient pillars. It grabs Cyrus, warping him into the Distortion World and leaving behind the tunnel between the worlds. Dialga and Palkia vanish back into their own dimensions, and Cynthia requests the player's help in the Distortion World to repair the link between the two worlds and prevent the warping of reality caused by Giratina's entrance from extending throughout.
After Giratina and Cyrus are defeated in the Distortion World, the player ends up in the Pokémon world once more at the entrance to Turnback Cave. Once the player has entered the Hall of Fame and found both the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs in Mount Coronet, Cynthia's grandmother will tell the player that in ancient times, people apparently met with Dialga and Palkia, by having the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs. Returning to the Spear Pillar with these items, the player will be able to battle with and potentially catch Dialga and Palkia.
If the player has the Azure Flute upon returning to the Spear Pillar after obtaining the National Pokédex, blowing into it will cause a staircase leading to the Hall of Origin to appear. After reaching the top of the staircase, the player will automatically approach the Mythical Pokémon Arceus. In Generation IV, this event is not legitimately accessible, but is available in Generation VIII if the console has completed save data from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Spear Pillar in Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Main article: Spear Pillar (stage)
Spear Pillar is an unlockable stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Players can unlock the stage by completing Event 25: The Aura Is With Me. The background of the stage will feature either Dialga, Palkia, or strangely Cresselia, who will occasionally do things to affect the stage such as tilting it diagonally or breaking one section of the top platform; Dialga slows time, Palkia flips or reverses the view, and Cresselia randomly attacks with flying crescents. The lake guardians will also make short cameo appearances when something happens to the stage.
The stage's default music is "Victory Road" from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Other pieces of background music are "Dialga / Palkia Battle at Spear Pillar!," "Wild Pokémon Battle! (Diamond / Pearl)," "Team Galactic Battle!," and "Route 209."
At some point Dialga, Palkia, and Cresselia will affect the stage, each with different effects to the field. Dialga appears when the sky has a blue hue, Palkia appears when the sky has a purple hue, and Cresselia appears when the sky is clear.
The stage reappears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Gateway to the Spear Pillar in
Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
Pokémon the Series
In its initial appearance in Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, instead of a plateau at the top of the mountain, the Spear Pillar is a void-like cave inside of Mount Coronet. However, as seen in Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Spear Pillar now resides at the summit of Mount Coronet, matching its appearance in the games and more recent animated depictions, although the location's original design is still consistent in flashbacks.
A large part of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl focused on Team Galactic searching for the gateway to the Spear Pillar, located somewhere on Mount Coronet. They finally discovered it in Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!. In The Battle Finale of Legend!, they used the Spear Key and a fragment of the Red Chain to unlock the gateway.
At the Spear Pillar, Cyrus used the lake guardians and the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs to summon Dialga and Palkia, which he then took control of with the Red Chain. Ash, his friends, and Cynthia arrived to stop them, defeating Team Galactic's Pokémon and freeing the lake guardians from Cyrus's control. Despite of this, Cyrus was still able to force Dialga and Palkia to start the creation of the new universe. Cynthia realized that the only way to stop the creation was to destroy the Red Chains controlling the Legendary Pokémon. Pikachu, Croagunk, Piplup, and Garchomp launched a combination attack on the Legendaries, but Cyrus had Dialga and Palkia to strike back with Roar of Time and Spacial Rend, respectively, blocking the attacks and almost hitting Ash and his friends, only to be narrowly saved by the lake guardians' combined Protect. The next combination succeeded in breaking the Red Chains, and the creation of the new universe was stopped. Cyrus, amazed by the sight of his creation, stepped into the collapsing portal, disappearing into the depths of his own "perfect universe".
Although Dialga and Palkia were freed, their rage was not gone, and they attacked the collapsing portal, which started sucking the surrounding world into itself. With the help of Ash, Brock, and Dawn, the lake guardians were able to calm down the Legendary Pokémon of time and space and stop the vortex of destruction.
In Showdown at the Gates of Warp!, Ash, Dawn, Goh, and Chloe visited the Spear Pillar in an alternate reality, discovering a gate that led them to a dimension where they found Dialga and Palkia locked in a battle due to Alternate World Team Rocket's actions.
In The Arceus Chronicles (Part 3) and The Arceus Chronicles (Part 4), Ash, his friends, and Cynthia traveled to the Spear Pillar to stop a rampaging Heatran that was headed there as well. With Arceus's help, they were able to stop Heatran.
Pokémon Generations
The Spear Pillar appeared in The New World. It was where Cyrus summoned the Legendary Dialga and Palkia to destroy the world and create a new one in its place. However, Giratina appeared to stop Cyrus, freeing Dialga and Palkia and dragging him into the Distortion World, much to the shock of Cynthia, Jupiter, and Mars.
Pokémon Evolutions
The Spear Pillar appeared in a flashback in The Rival. After Cyrus had succeeded in summoning Dialga, Lucas and Barry started battling against Jupiter and Mars, with Barry being especially determined to beat the former after his loss against her at Lake Acuity. Thanks to their first partner Pokémon, Lucas and Barry were able to defeat the Commanders.
In the manga
Pokémon Adventures
The Spear Pillar was the location of the final battle in this arc. After the creation of the second Red Chain had been foiled by Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Cyrus was left with no choice but to use an artificial copy to replace it. Once arriving at the Spear Pillar in Creeping Away from Cradily, he told Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter to keep anyone from entering while he was completing the ceremony. In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia I, the Sinnoh Gym Leaders, excluding Volkner, arrived at the Spear Pillar via the Underground, thanks to Byron and the Underground Man, and started battling against the Team Galactic Commanders. Meanwhile, Cyrus managed to use the Red Chains to summon Dialga and Palkia, and forced them to fight each other in order to wipe out the old world and create a new universe in its place.
With extreme effort, the Gym Leaders managed to defeat the Galactic Commanders in Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia II. However, the distortions in space and time caused by Dialga and Palkia's fight made it impossible for them to reach the stairs leading to Cyrus. Figuring another way to get to the Galactic Boss, the Gym Leaders once again made their way through the Underground, and attacked the Red Chains controlling the Legendary Pokémon. Ignoring the attacks from Cyrus's Pokémon, the Gym Leaders' Pokémon managed to break the artificial chain, halving Cyrus's control over the Temporal and Spatial Pokémon. Despite this, the fight between the two Legendaries went on, causing more and more wide-spreading distortions in time and space all across Sinnoh. Eventually, thanks to the combined efforts of the three Pokédex holders and their Pokémon, the second Red Chain was also destroyed and the fight was finally stopped, preventing the new universe from being born.
While the Gym Leaders and Pokédex holders were trying to stop Dialga and Palkia, Sird appeared before the defeated Commanders, revealing that, while she had previously served as a member of Team Rocket, in actuality, she had been a Team Galactic Commander acting as Cyrus's double agent all along to capture Deoxys for him. In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia IV, she was attacked by Riley, who recognized her as the one who had mind-controlled the Advanced level Grunt, but she managed to escape.
In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia VI, just when everything seemed to be calming down, Charon appeared, revealing that the hole created by the battle wasn't the seed of a new universe, like everyone else had assumed, but a portal to another world. Suddenly, draconic tentacles appeared from the portal and sucked Cyrus, Dialga, and Palkia into it. Charon managed to escape with a smoke bomb distraction, but Diamond's Lickilicky, Kit, managed to snatch his notebook before he got away.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!
The Spear Pillar first appeared in The Advent of the Legendary Pokémon!!, where Cyrus used the Red Chain to force Dialga to appear there and start reversing time in order to wipe out all of existence. However, in Will Hareta's Wish Get Through?!, the lake guardians appeared and destroyed the Red Chain, freeing Dialga from Cyrus's control. Just as things were calming down, in Bonds Connect Across Space-Time..., Palkia suddenly appeared as well, attracted by the distortion created by the Red Chain, and started battling Dialga. Although Hareta's attempt to catch Palkia with a Master Ball failed, he was eventually able to stop the fight and save all of existence from being wiped out.
In the TCGTrivia
- The name "spear pillar" is a reference to the creation myth in Shinto, where the deities Izanagi and Izanami were given the spear 天沼矛 Ame-no-nuboko, with which they created 淤能碁呂島 Onogoroshima, upon which they built the pillar 天御柱 Ame-no-mihashira.
- It is impossible to use the HM Fly or use Escape Ropes in Spear Pillar, despite it being part of Mount Coronet. The reason is most likely to prevent the player from running away from Dialga or Palkia. The player has also used a cave exit into the Spear Pillar, thus the game assumes they are no longer in a mountain. Therefore, neither can be used to return to the outside world (although leaving into Mount Coronet allows for the Escape Rope to be used).
- The Temporal Pinnacle, at the peak of Temporal Tower, in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, bears resemblance to the Spear Pillar, likely due to the connection both have to Dialga.
- Despite the fact that it is higher up than the snowy areas of Mount Coronet, there is no snow on the Spear Pillar itself. The rest of Mount Coronet cannot be seen, either. In this case, as the anime has shown, the Spear Pillar is likely to be above the level of the clouds that dump the snow on the lower levels of the mountain.
- The only possible way to encounter Palkia before Dialga in Pokémon Platinum is to not have the Adamant Orb held by a party member or in the Bag, but to have the Lustrous Orb. If the Adamant Orb is with the player in any manner, Dialga will always appear first, no matter if the Lustrous Orb is also with the player or not.
- In the anime, the Spear Pillar bears a strong resemblance to the Mystri Stage in the Sinjoh Ruins.
- Spear Pillar makes an appearance as a backdrop when a Pokémon from Sinnoh is used in the Alola Photo Club in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
- The placement of the pillars varies between Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, with Diamond and Pearl's placements being mirrors of each other.
- In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Volo alludes to the modern-day name of the ruins by describing them as "pillars now turned into spears, stabbing into the heavens".
