Promotional artwork of a Jirachi that knows the move Heart Stamp, an example of an event-exclusive Pokémon and move combination

An event move is a unique move that a Pokémon cannot naturally learn without being obtained from an event distribution, in-game event, or side series game. Event moves can either be entirely unobtainable outside of these methods or unobtainable for a specific Pokémon. Certain moves or Pokémon and move combinations lose their event-exclusive status and become readily available in later games, such as Snarl.

Pokémon that know event-exclusive moves can be transferred to later generations if they originate from Generation III or later (including the Virtual Console releases of Generation I and Generation II), retaining any event-exclusive moves they may have. However, as of Pokémon HOME version 2.0.0, a Pokémon's moveset will be altered when it is sent to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl or later, with HOME instead assigning moves that the Pokémon can naturally learn in the game it is deposited into. The Pokémon's original moveset will remain in its data and can be viewed in HOME, as well as Pokémon Sword and Shield if the Pokémon is available in the Galar, Isle of Armor, or Crown Tundra Pokédexes. Additionally, prior to Generation VI, event moves could not be relearned if they were forgotten.

This article does not list Pokémon distributed with event moves that they are able to naturally learn at a later level (e.g. PalCity Mew knowing Aura Sphere at level 50, a move it normally only learns at level 100 in Generation IV), nor the signature moves of event-exclusive Pokémon species that are otherwise a part of the Pokémon's natural learnset (e.g. Doom Desire).
