Description | This leader of the expansive Team Rainbow Rocket enterprise, which aims to use Pokémon to rule the world, believes Pokémon are no more than tools. |
Giovanni (Japanese: サカキ Sakaki) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series. He forms a sync pair with Mewtwo, which is capable of Mega Evolving after acquiring its Power Boost from the villain event Spreading Shadows. This sync pair was first made available on December 5, 2019. The pair's potential can be upgraded to 6★ EX from September 16, 2021, which unlocks Giovanni's EX style. However, unlike most sync pairs, this pair cannot be upgraded with Champion Spirits - only Custom Legendary Spirits from the villain event Looming Shadow of Kanto can be used.
Giovanni in his sygna suit forms a sync pair with Nidoking, which is capable of Dynamaxing. This sync pair was first made available on May 19, 2022. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX from the day it was released.
Giovanni in his Classic attire forms a sync pair with Persian. This pair was first made available through a sync pair-up event on August 15, 2022, and could be raised to 6★ EX from the day it was released.
Giovanni also forms a sync pair with his Rhydon. This pair can be obtained through a variety sync pair scout beginning on September 6, 2023. This pair can also be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, though this pair lacks an EX style.
Giovanni also forms a sync pair with his Nidorino. This pair can be obtained by reaching Friendship Level 100 with Giovanni in the Trainer Lodge beginning on October 1, 2023. This pair can also be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, though this pair lacks an EX style.
Mewtwo
Raising this sync pair to 6★ EX will unlock Song Key 01005, which allows "Battle! (Giovanni) (Pokémon Masters EX Version)" to be played in the Jukebox.

Trivia
- Giovanni is from an alternate universe where Team Rocket succeeded in taking over the world and he became the leader of Team Rainbow Rocket, which was introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, as noted in his character description.
- The whereabouts of Giovanni from this game's continuity are currently unknown.
- Giovanni and Mewtwo were the first sync pair to be obtainable via a legendary event, debuting on December 5, 2019.
- All versions of Giovanni use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Silver, Archer, Ariana, Petrel, and Proton.
- Giovanni also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Silver in the same team.
- The types of Giovanni and Rhydon's attack moves are identical to Shauntal's whole set of weaknesses in the Champion Stadium: Water, Ice, and Ground.
Origin
Giovanni's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Mewtwo is Giovanni's highest-level Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, with it Mega Evolving into Mega Mewtwo Y in Ultra Moon. In addition, Giovanni also controlled a Mewtwo for a while in the anime, while another iteration of him helped to create Mewtwo in the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga. Mewtwo's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
Rhydon is Giovanni's signature Pokémon during the Gym battles against him in the core series games, with the exception of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Rhydon's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby.
Giovanni uses a Nidorino on his team when battling the player at Silph Co. in the core series games, with the exception of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. Nidorino's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
Nidoking is one of the Pokémon that Giovanni uses in the core series games. Nidoking's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
Giovanni (Classic)'s design is based on his appearance in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Persian is Giovanni's main Pokémon in the anime. It has also appeared on his team in Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. Persian's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Moon.
