Description An incredibly impetuous, high-spirited young man who runs straight for what he wants without any hesitation, he has an earnest passion for Pokémon.

Barry (Japanese: ジュン Jun) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series games. He forms a sync pair with Piplup and its evolutions, Prinplup and Empoleon. The sync pair is obtained during the events of Chapter 2 of the Main Story. The pair's potential can be upgraded to 6★ EX from March 29, 2021, which unlocks Barry's EX Style.

Piplup → Prinplup → Empoleon

Piplup can evolve into Prinplup once it has reached level 30 through its Sync Pair Story Piplup's Evolution, and then into Empoleon once it has reached level 45 through its Sync Pair Story Prinplup's Evolution. Raising this sync pair to 6★ EX will unlock Song Key 04002, which allows "Battle! (Barry) (Pokémon Masters EX Version)" to be played in the Jukebox.

Trivia

  • In his Sync Pair Story, Barry reveals that he keeps trying to fine people because he wants to gather money for his own Battle Tower so he could challenge his father there.
  • Barry's Empoleon is the only Pokémon in Pokémon Masters EX with a weakness it does not have in the core series games, as Empoleon is otherwise neutral to Grass due to its Water/Steel typing.
  • Barry's rival is Dawn, as Dawn said that Barry is her childhood friend.
    • However, despite Dawn being based on the player character, and Lucas being based on Professor Rowan's assistant, the Pokémon that Barry is Sync Paired with is weak against Dawn's first Sync Pair, and strong against Lucas's Infernape.

Origin

Barry's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Piplup is one of the starter Pokémon of Sinnoh in the core series games. Piplup and its evolutions are Barry's signature Pokémon if the player chooses Chimchar as their starter in the Sinnoh-based core series games. In addition, Empoleon is also the signature Pokémon of Barry's anime counterpart. Piplup's Dex entry comes from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Prinplup's from Pokémon Diamond, and Empoleon's from Pokémon Pearl.
