Brock (Japanese: タケシ Takeshi) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series. He forms a sync pair with Onix, and appears as one of the characters the player starts with, along with Misty. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX beginning on August 28, 2025, which unlocks Brock's EX Style

Description Known as the rock-solid Pokémon Trainer, he is a reliable Gym Leader who watches over and supports younger Trainers.

Brock in his sygna suit forms a sync pair with Tyranitar. This sync pair was first made available since the game's release, and can be raised to 6★ EX from July 25, 2022.

Brock also forms a sync pair with Kabutops. This pair can be obtained through a Gym Scout beginning on January 29, 2025. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX since it first released, though this pair lacks an EX style.

In the games

Brock is the current Gym Leader of Pewter City. He is one of the few truly serious Pokémon Trainers in that area, and many people respect and admire him. He is quite proud of his rock-hard willpower, and uses Rock-type Pokémon to complement this. He rarely laughs or drops his serious demeanor, but when he does, he finds it hard to stop. In his free time, he likes to dig for Fossils in Mt. Moon.

PML Arc

Brock arrives with Misty on the artificial island of Pasio, hoping to take on the Pokémon Masters League tournament. As they were waiting in the Pokémon Center, the two meet Scottie/Bettie and offer to form a team with the newcomer. Brock takes on a mentor role to the player character, offering guidance throughout the beginning of the PML Arc.

The trio travel across the reigon to find new teammates such as Rosa, and to collect the five PML Badges required to participate. On his travels, he learns about the villainous Team Break and how they're causing trouble across the island, Brock helps put a stop to their plans whenever he can. He also meets Lear, an arrogant prince that views Pokémon as mere tools and fails to form a true bond with them. Despite his best efforts, the group still loses badly in a battle against Lear.

After collecting all five badges, Brock meets with a fashion designer who creates a Sygna suit for him and his Tyranitar. Brock has helped team members throughout his travels, and seeing their accomplishments has motivated Brock to battle the player, not as a teammate, but as another Trainer. After the battle, Brock comments on how there's nothing else he can teach the player. He offers to rejoin the team, not as a coach or guide, but as a proper teammate.

During the tournament, his team is insulted by Lear, and is coerced into a rematch where their right to compete is on the line. Brock remains steadfast in his beliefs, but he doesn't approve of Lear's underhanded attempt to kick them out of the tournament. Brock mentions that Lear has a targeted hatred for the player in particular, meaning they might be the one who needs to help Lear realize his way of thinking is harmful.

Brock is able to help the player win against Lear, and they are able to progress onto the final portion of the tournament. Things seem to be going well, with them taking on and defeating stronger opponents each time. But right before the semi-finals were about to start, the arena is ambushed by Team Break. Brock and his team surprisingly were able to work with Lear in order to stop them, but the exhaustion ended up postponing the semi-finals for a day.

His group ends up winning the PML after a hard fought battle againts Red, Blue, and Leaf. When Lear announces a second PML at the awards ceremony, he is surprised at first, but is excited to participate again, especially with the chance to battle the player character on different teams.

Pokémon Masters Animated Trailer

Brock appeared in the Pokémon Masters Animated Trailer, where he joined Scottie and Rosa in a journey across Pasio. In a forest, the trio came across Erika, a Beauty, and a Lass; and battled their Vileplume, Lotad, and Whimsicott, respectively. His Onix was ensnared in Whimsicott's Leech Seed, but Rosa's Snivy managed to free it. Afterwards, Brock healed Snivy with a Potion after it was injured by Lotad's Energy Ball. Brock's group soon came out victorious, after which Erika joined them on their journey.

Trivia

  • During the prestige event Battle Buffet Bash, Brock mentions having wanted some jelly-filled donuts. This is a reference to the infamous Pokémon the Series dub edit by 4Kids in Primeape Goes Bananas, where Brock refers to some rice balls as donuts.
  • Sygna Suit Brock & Tyranitar are the only sygna suit sync pair that do not have an initial potential of 5★.
  • All versions of Brock use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Misty and Gordie.
    • Brock also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Misty in the same team.

Origin

Brock's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Onix is Brock's signature Pokémon in the core series games. Onix's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Brock regularly uses a Kabutops on his teams beginning in Pokémon Gold and Silver. Kabutops's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun

Brock uses a Tyranitar in the Pokémon World Tournament in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Tyranitar's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
