Galar's Poké Ball Enthusiast (Japanese: ガラルのボールマニア? Galar's Ball Maniac?) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pair Ball Guy and Amoonguss.
The "Ball Guy Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Ball Guy and Amoonguss for the duration of the event.
During this event, players could earn Ball Guy Stickers from battles that could be redeemed in the Shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day, and My Secret Hideout!, which could only be challenged when the player had a Ball Guy Sticker +. Extra stickers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
The player could battle using Ball Guy and Amoonguss to obtain +0.6× bonus stickers; Victor and Rillaboom, Ethan and Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion, or Elio and Popplio/Brionne/Primarina to obtain +0.4× bonus stickers; and the player character and Pikachu, the player character and Torchic, or any unlisted Galar sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus stickers.
The special area, My Secret Hideout!, was unlocked after completing the first story area. This area could only be accessed in exchange for a Ball Guy Sticker +, which could be obtained from the Shop or a log-in bonus. Players could obtain one of ten rewards after defeating Ball Guy in battle. Once all ten were received, players would no longer be able to battle Ball Guy, but would obtain a Big Pearl on revisiting.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.
In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.
Plot
Finding themself on Pasio, Ball Guy is amazed to see that famous Trainers have gathered on the island. Inspired, Ball Guy decides to become a mascot on Pasio and cheer on all of the Trainers. They call out to a Youngster walking by and gift him a Friend Ball. The Youngster explains that since there are no wild Pokémon on Pasio, there is no use for Poké Balls. Shocked and confused about what their purpose is, Ball Guy blacks out.
After unsuccessfully trying to give out Poké Balls to Trainers with their Amoonguss, Ball Guy realizes that there is another kind of ball that could interest everyone. As they wonder how to go about making friends with one, a mysterious Trainer and a Pokémon approach to offer help.
Later, Elio, Ethan, and Victor watch as a group of young Trainers share rumors about Ball Guy. Ethan wonders why Ball Guy is giving out items as Elio begins to ponder their identity, thinking of Kukui. Victor explains that he had met Ball Guy in Galar, where he had seen them give out Poké Balls and cheer on Trainers. As the three continue to discuss Ball Guy, they hear an explosion.
At Centra City, Ball Guy challenges passing Trainers while commanding an Electrode and some Voltorb to attack. Elio, Ethan, and Victor arrive and are concerned to see Ball Guy threatening Trainers. Victor runs over to ask them for an explanation, but they challenge him, too. Ethan and Elio rush to help him, sending out their Pokémon. Alongside a Black Belt and a Pokémon Ranger, they are able to defeat Ball Guy. Sawyer then runs into the area, followed by Lear. Ball Guy runs off when they see the two, prompting them and the others to chase them. Victor stays behind, confused as to what happened to Ball Guy.
All across Pasio, Ball Guy challenges Trainers while threatening to explode their Voltorb and Electrode. Elio, Ethan, and Victor meet with Lear, Sawyer, and Looker in the city to discuss the issue. When Lear plans to put Ball Guy on a wanted list, Victor tries to explain that there must be a reason for their actions. Refusing to let Ball Guy cause any more chaos, Lear and Looker leave.
In an alley, Looker and the others corner Ball Guy by a gate. Looker demands for Ball Guy to explain their actions. Ball Guy tells everyone that they wanted to cheer on Trainers by using ball-like Pokémon to help them get stronger. They explain that they were inspired to pretend to be a villain after seeing Brycen act in a play. By acting as a villain, Trainers would feel the necessity to battle them, ensuring their growth. Victor reprimands Ball Guy for their actions, and they apologize.
Lear decides to let Ball Guy go with a warning, since they didn't cause too much damage. Looker asks Ball Guy where they got the ball-like Pokémon they used, and Ball Guy turns to see Colress and Hoopa, who are approaching from nearby. Colress reveals that Hoopa brought the Pokémon to Pasio, and that his Colress Machine amplified their power. Lear is infuriated, and Colress casually exits with Hoopa. As Lear chases after the two, Looker announces that the case is closed and departs. Distressed, Ball Guy begins to question their purpose on Pasio again. Victor points out that since they are good friends with their Amoonguss, they should form a sync pair with it.
Days later, Ball Guy and the Masked Royal have a battle in the city. When the battle ends, Selene asks Ball Guy if they can all take a photo together. Afterward, Ball Guy and Lisia dance in front of a crowd. They gift her a Love Ball, finding it to be fitting for an idol. Ball Guy then joins Siebold, Mallow, Gloria, Victor, and Ethan in a forest to make curry designed to look like a Poké Ball. Victor asks Ball Guy how they made the curry such a bright red color, and they reveal that they used lots of spices. Mallow, Gloria, and Ethan all begin to exclaim, having just started eating the spicy food. Later that night, Ball Guy explains to Victor and the others that they are willing to do everything they can to cheer people on so that one day they can become an official mascot.
