Trivia

  • Volo's inclusion was first teased in the Together in an Unknown Land story event. At the end of the event, Rei and Cynthia's Giratina are wary of the ruins they are in, and a Togepi is seen running on the ground behind a pillar.
  • The standard versions of Volo (but not his alternate outfit) use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon) and victory with them. Those Trainers include Rei, Akari, and Cynthia.
  • Volo & Togepi were the first field sync pair to be able to be invited to the Trainer Lodge.
  • Despite Volo having his encounter theme in this game, the music that plays on his sync pair scout screen is Battle! (People of Hisui) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). This parallels the way the player's first two battles against Volo in Pokémon Legends: Arceus use the Battle! (People of Hisui) theme. Battle! (Volo) (Pokémon Masters EX Version) plays on the scout screen for Volo (Alt.), which parallels his later heel turn and his true battle theme playing in the final battle.
  • Although Cynthia claims Volo views his Pokémon as tools, he has both a Togekiss and a Lucario, whose evolution lines evolve via friendship.
    • It should be noted, however, that Togetic and Togekiss as well as Lucario could be found in the wild in Hisui, and that Giovanni directly challenges the assumption that "bonds" with Pokemon require genuine friendship.

Origin

Volo's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Togepi is the first Pokémon Volo is seen using in the core series games. Togepi's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Gible is a Pokémon Volo uses during his second battle against the player. Gible's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Volo's alternate outfit is the outfit he wears when battling the player at the Temple of Sinnoh in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In that battle, Volo summons Giratina to defeat the player, where it transforms into its Origin Forme after being brought to 0 HP the first time. Giratina's Dex entry comes from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
