Description This Trainer from Kalos loves Pokémon and fashion. She's usually cheerful and upbeat, but when a battle starts, her demeanor shifts, revealing her calm, serious side.

Serena (Japanese: セレナ Serena) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series games. She forms a sync pair with Fennekin and its evolutions, Braixen and Delphox. The sync pair can be obtained through the sync pair scout since June 30, 2020. The pair's potential can be upgraded to Masters EX star.png 6★ EX from February 15, 2021, which unlocks Serena's EX Style.

Serena is also available in her Palentine's attire partnered alongside Whimsicott. The pair could be obtained through a limited-time seasonal sync pair scout and was first available on January 29, 2021. This pair is also capable of being upgraded Masters EX star.png 6★ EX from when the pair was first released.

Serena is also available in her sygna suit, forming a sync pair with Zygarde, which is capable of transforming into its Complete Forme. This sync pair is available through a limited Master Fair sync pair scout and was first made available on March 17, 2022. This pair is also capable of being upgraded Masters EX star.png 6★ EX from when the pair was first released.

Serena is also available in her Neo Champion attire, partnered with Greninja. This sync pair is available through a limited Master Fair sync pair scout and was first made available on November 30, 2022. This pair is also capable of being upgraded Masters EX star.png 6★ EX from when the pair was first released.

Serena also forms a sync pair with her Fletchling. This sync pair can be obtained by reaching Friendship Level 100 with Serena in the Trainer Lodge beginning on November 30, 2022. This pair could be raised to Masters EX star.png 6★ EX beginning on March 29, 2023, though this pair lacks an EX style.

Trivia

  • Serena is based on the player character of the Kalos-based games, as she says that she learned about being a Trainer from Calem and has never lost a battle to him.
  • The voiceover when leveling up the original version of Serena has an error. Instead of saying "We're getting so strong!", the voiceover starts in the middle and Serena will say "Are getting so strong!"
  • All versions of Serena use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon) and victory with them. Those Trainers include Calem, Shauna, Tierno, Korrina, Diantha, and Professor Sycamore.
    • When Serena's special voice-over lines were added in version 2.19.0, she did not have a voice-over line for teaming up with Korrina or winning a battle with her; these were added in version 2.27.0. This makes her the only character to have additional team-up voice-over lines added for a character that had been in the game since launch.
  • Serena is the first player character to form a Master Fair-exclusive sync pair.

Origin

Serena's design is based on her appearance in Pokémon X and Y. Fennekin is one of the first partner Pokémon of Kalos in the core series games. As the rival character, Fennekin and its evolutions are Serena's signature Pokémon if the player chooses Chespin as their first partner Pokémon in the Kalos-based core series games. In addition, Serena's anime counterpart, is depicted with Fennekin and her evolutions. Fennekin, Braixen, and Delphox's Dex entries come from Pokémon X.

Fletchling is a Pokémon owned by the player's mother, Grace, in Pokémon X and Y, who she uses to wake the player up at the beginning of the game. As the rival character, Serena uses a Fletchling to teach the player and Shauna how to catch a Pokémon. In addition, Serena's Pokémon Adventures counterpart is depicted with a Fletchling as her first Pokémon, who later evolved into a Fletchinder. Fletchling's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Serena is not seen to own a Whimsicott outside this game. Whimsicott's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Zygarde is a Legendary Pokémon that can be caught at Terminus Cave in Pokémon X and Y. Zygarde 50% Forme's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun. Zygarde Complete Forme's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Moon.

Greninja is the final evolution of Froakie, one of the first partner Pokémon of Kalos in the core series games. As the rival character, Greninja is Serena's signature Pokémon if the player chooses Fennekin as their first partner Pokémon in the Kalos-based core series games. In addition, Serena's Pokémon Adventures counterpart is depicted with a Greninja. Greninja's Dex entry comes from Pokémon X.
