Pokémon Masters Animated Trailer

Steven appeared in the Pokémon Masters Animated Trailer, where he teamed up with Cynthia and Lance to battle Korrina, Cheren, and Misty at a stadium in Pasio. Steven attempted to overwhelm the opposing team's Pokémon with his Metagross's Flash Cannon, but said Pokémon retaliated with their own attacks.

Trivia

  • Excluding potentially Scottie and Bettie, Steven is the first Trainer to form a sync pair with a Shiny Pokémon.
  • Excluding Scottie and Bettie, Steven is the first Trainer to form three strike sync pairs.
  • Steven (Anniversary 2021) & Rayquaza are the first Master Fair-exclusive sync pair capable of using Mega Evolution.
  • During Hearts United, Steven makes a reference to Alain and his battle against a Rayquaza alongside him in Mega Evolution Special II, wishing to grow strong enough to surpass him alongside his Rayquaza partner.
  • Steven's Rayquaza is the only Pokémon to acquire a boost in only a single stat upon Mega Evolution (which is its Speed stat).
  • Since version 2.23.5*, all versions of Steven use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). As of that version, those Trainers include Brendan, May, Wallace, Roxanne, Brawly, Sidney, Lisia, Zinnia and Roark.
    • Steven also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Brendan or May in the same team.
  • Sygna Suit Steven & Deoxys are the first Sygna Suit sync pair with the Champion theme skill, despite Steven not being the first Pokémon Champion who received a Sygna Suit.

Origin

Steven's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Metagross is Steven's signature Pokémon in the games, and is first seen Mega Evolving in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Metagross's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Steven is not seen owning an Alolan Sandslash outside this game. Alolan Sandslash's Dex entry come from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Steven's Shiny Rayquaza may be a reference to a variety of Shiny event Rayquaza that were distributed in various regions during Generation VI's lifetime. Rayquaza's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Omega Ruby.

While Steven does not own a Deoxys outside this game, they both play a major role in the Delta Episode of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Deoxys's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Omega Ruby.
