Story events (Japanese: エピソードイベント Episode Event) are a type of limited-time events in Pokémon Masters EX. These focus on a specific or multiple specific sync pairs, but unlike training events, also provide an extra storyline. They previously featured co-op battles that rewarded the player with vouchers that could be exchanged in the shop for items, and now typically feature solo battles that can be completed for gems and other useful items.
The script for the story events can be found by the year the event debuted in: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022.
Reach for the Top
This story event ran from September 3 to 30, 2019. It was focused on the sync pair, Blue and Pidgeot. The "Blue Spotlight Scout!" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Blue and Pidgeot during the duration of the event.
Plot
The player meets Blue with his Pidgeot who remarks that he would love to have battled the player, except that he had already battled other Trainers today. However, he agrees to give the player some battling tips. He first introduces the player to Flannery but is surprised to find that the two are already acquainted. The three then have a battle with another team.
Blue next introduces the player to Misty, only again to find out that they are on the same team for the Pokémon Masters League. Blue states that the player could be much stronger if he was on the team, but Misty is incredulous that Blue always believes he is better than her. Flannery suggests a battle to resolve the argument, and Blue further suggests joining a team-on-team elimination battle. Blue and Flannery join the player to form a team and win against their first opponent.
After winning themselves to the finals, Blue is surprised to receive a Poryphone message stating that Misty had been defeated. Misty soon joins the player's team and Blue accuses her of being sloppy in battle. Misty pretends not to hear and delivers a message from the opponent who defeated her stating he wants a rematch with Blue. Misty leaves the arena and they soon find out that their finals opponents are Bruno from the Indigo Elite Four.
After the battle, Bruno commends how well the player's team worked together. Bruno's apprentice is dumbfounded that they lost against children, however, Bruno remarks that underestimating them as children indicated that he still harbours hubris and concludes that team battles are about how well Trainers work together, not on individual strength. Bruno, Blue, and Flannery all pledge to train even more. Flannery and Bruno begin training together immediately.

The Girl in Black and White
This story event ran from September 30 to October 17, 2019. It was focused on the sync pair, Hilda and Tepig. The "Hilda Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Hilda and Tepig during the duration of the event.
This event reran from September 3 to 17, 2021 as a part of Two-Year Anniversary Rerun Event.
Plot
At a sweets festival, the player, Hilda and Roxanne are in a queue for Casteliacones. Roxanne is eager to learn about Casteliacones and explains the importance of learning, such as knowing Pokémon battles. Hilda believes that actually tasting a Casteliacone would be the best way to learn than simply describing one.
At that moment, a Masked Woman cuts in front of them. Hilda, Roxanne and the player defeat the Masked Woman in battle, forcing her to line up from the back of the queue.
Roxanne acknowledges Hilda's power in battle but states that her style is a little reckless. Hilda rebuts saying that a Trainer needs to jump in to know what is going to work or not and that stopping and thinking might cost the Trainer a chance. Hilda believes that taking action is the most important, while Roxanne believes thorough planning is crucial.
A Pokémon Ranger who witnessed their previous battle then asks them for a battle. After defeating her, Roxanne realizes that despite having opposing battle styles they were still able to win.
Soon, there is an announcement that Casteliacones had been sold out and the team walk away disappointed.
They are next met by Thorton who has also been intrigued by their battle and would like to analyze their Pokémon. Roxanne points out that Thorton has bought four Casteliacones and Thorton agrees to give them the ice cream if they battle him.
After the defeat, Thorton finds out that his data analysis was insufficient to keep up with the movements and commands of the team. Hilda and Roxanne both realize that they are in sync as a team despite their differences in battle style.
Once they receive the Casteliacones, they find that they have now melted. Hilda and Roxanne plan to come again tomorrow to buy Casteliacones.

The Importance of Elegance
This story event ran from October 31 to November 14, 2019. It was focused on the sync pair, Caitlin and Reuniclus. The "Caitlin Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Caitlin and Reuniclus during the duration of the event.
This event reran from June 18 to July 2, 2020, as part of the Unova Rally. The shop list for this event was changed from the original run, and the Voucher H was replaced with the Psychic Voucher.
Plot
In Centra City, Caitlin watches on as the player battles against another team. After the battle, Caitlin approaches the player and comments that the player may improve their battling by adding a touch of elegance. She clarifies that elegance is remaining calm and collected during the battle to show dignity, refinement and grace.
Candice then joins the conversation thinking they are talking about fashion. Caitlin explains that they were discussing battling and that elegance is of utmost importance. They decide to battle to see how grace and elegance can improve one's battling prowess.
After battling another team, Candice remarks that her battle style is all about focusing hard. Despite being far from elegant, Caitlin appraises Candice's strength and energy, and that it suits her and her Pokémon. Caitlin reflects that she was once forbidden to battle because she could not control her psychic powers when she would lose. She states that she learnt to control her negative emotions from Psychic-type Pokémon as they could manipulate their power at will. Caitlin states she would like to learn more about focus, while Candice replies she would like to learn more about elegance.
After the next battle, Roxie joins in on the conversation and remarks that she thinks it is the rhythm and passion of the battle that is more important than focus or elegance. They decide to battle Roxie to see exactly what she means by the beat of battle.
Despite losing to them, Caitlin and Candice remark that they were impressed by Roxie's battling and that they were able to feel the beat. Caitlin concludes that each Trainer has their individual styles which make them unique and that one should not push others to follow their own personal methods. She reflects that the player values kindness above all else.

Two Champions
This story event ran from December 26, 2019, to January 22, 2020. It was focused on Cynthia and Lance. The "Lance Spotlight Poké Fair Scout" allowed players to recruit Lance and Dragonite, and the "Cynthia Spotlight Poké Fair Scout" allowed players to recruit Cynthia and Garchomp during the duration of the event.
The event reran from May 25 to June 8, 2021. The "Super Spotlight Poké Fair Scount" allowed players to recruit Sygna Suit Cynthia and Kommo-o, Steven and Metagross, Cynthia and Garchomp and Lance and Dragonite during the duration of the event. Battles rewarded players with Event Voucher G, which could be redeemed in the Shop. Challenge Clair: Part 4 could only be challenged once per day. The player could battle using Cynthia and Garchomp or Lance and Dragonite to obtain +0.6x bonus Event Voucher Gs; Clair and Kingdra or Rosa and Snivy/Servine/Serperior to obtain +0.4× bonus Event Voucher Gs; and the player character and Pikachu or the player character and Torchic to obtain +0.2× bonus Event Voucher Gs.
Plot
The player meets Rosa on the streets of Pasio where many people are talking excitedly about the arrival of Champion Lance. They overhear a conversation between a Scientist and Rising Star regarding who is the stronger Champion - Lance or Cynthia. At that moment, Cynthia shows up and the Rising Star comes over to see her hero. The Scientist, adamant that Lance is stronger, declares that he can prove to them this fact. However, Cynthia defeats him in battle and the flustered Scientist leaves. Rosa then asks Cynthia about who is the stronger Dragon-type master. Though Cynthia is curious, she remains cool and nonchalant about being "the greatest".
The player and Rosa then find Lance and Clair training at a beach. After a brief battle against some of Lance's fans, Rosa asks Lance who he believes is the greatest Dragon-type master. Unlike Clair's overconfident statement that she is in fact the strongest, Lance remains nonchalant about the question much like Cynthia.
The two Champions then bump into each other on the streets of Pasio, where they decide to battle. However, before they can, an Ace Trainer challenges them to a battle with his own Dragon-type Pokémon. After defeat, the Ace Trainer exclaims that Lance and Cynthia should battle at the stadium up ahead.
At the stadium, the Champions are getting ready for a battle when they are again interrupted. This time, Clair and Iris challenge them to a battle for the title of the greatest Dragon-type master. After defeating the pair, Lance and Cynthia note that they will need to delay their battle against each other as their Pokémon have over-exerted themselves already. The two then later promise to battle each other in the PML finals.

The Strongest There Is
This story event ran from February 14 to March 16, 2020. It was focused on Steven and Metagross. Wallace makes his appearance as well. The "Steven Spotlight Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Steven and Metagross during the duration of the event. Currently, this event is also the final story event (excluding "The Importance of Elegance" rerun) to feature co-op battles.
Plot
The player and Barry are training together on a mountain when Barry notices Steven and Wallace ascending the trail ahead of them. Curious what kind of training they might be doing, Barry and the player follow them. Steven and Wallace notice the two and surprise them at a cave entrance, and when they express interest in Steven's strength, he suggests they battle some trainers together.
Higher up the trail, Steven is distracted from admiring the view with Wallace by stones he finds, while Barry wonders how the two aren't tired from the hike. Barry suggests he and the player also look for stones, but they are interrupted by Team Break, who demand the stones they found. Wallace and Steven step in and scare Team Break off, but they return with more members, and the party is forced to battle them.
Grant arrives while Steven and Wallace finish defeating the last few members, and he marvels at Steven's skill. He introduces himself after the battle. Steven shows Barry that the ordinary-looking stone he had found is a geode and talks about stones for a moment. Grant then challenges Steven and the player's party to a battle.
After the battle, Steven and Wallace compliment Grant on the stones he wears in his hair. Barry gets excited and asks if the secret to Steven and Grant's strength is in their stones, but Steven replies that his experiences while travelling in pursuit of his passion make him strong, and Grant agrees. Wallace notes that their different passions influence their battling, and Steven encourages Barry to become stronger by following his own passion.

Shining Star
This story event ran from February 28 to March 16, 2020. It was focused on Sygna Suit Elesa and Rotom. The "Sygna Suit Elesa Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sygna Suit Elesa and Rotom during the duration of the event.
Unlike previous events, co-op mode was not available and event vouchers could not be obtained to exchange for items at the shop. Instead, the player could obtain travel tokens from the "Challenge Team Break" single-player battles. Once a day, these battles provided increased travel token rewards. On top, if the player battled using Sygna Suit Elesa & Rotom, Elesa & Zebstrika, or Skyla & Swanna, the player could obtain +1×, +0.5× and +0.2× bonus travel tokens respectively. These travel tokens were required to progress through the event map and acquire items along the way.
Plot
Spectators have filled the stadium in anticipation of a fashion show Elesa will be putting on. Observing the crowd, Marley is intimidated by Elesa's popularity and reputation, but Skyla encourages her to get to know Elesa, recounting some of Elesa's puns. Elesa arrives and greets the two trainers. They are interrupted by Team Break, who take over the main stage and demand Elesa's Sygna Suit. Elesa recruits Skyla, Marley, and the player to defeat Team Break.
As all but the last group of Team Break members are defeated, Elesa decides to start her fashion show. Skyla and her Swanna fly the group onto the stage, with Elesa now wearing her sygna suit, and Elesa challenges Team Break to a battle.
Team Break is driven off, but Elesa's Rotom uses a sign to point to a masked spectator in the crowd. Skyla assumes this is another Team Break member, but Elesa recognizes Will and challenges him to a battle to entertain the audience.
After the battle, Will congratulates Elesa's party for their victory and complains that he has been repeatedly confused for a Team Break member since coming to Pasio. Elesa praises Will's battling skills and fashion sense, and Will complements Elesa's showmanship. Elesa asks the others to assist in building a new, beautiful stage for Elesa's show.
A series of vignettes show Elesa testing jokes on Skyla; Elesa and the Player battling each other to train; Rotom pulling a prank on Gardenia with a broken vending machine; Elesa and Blaine having a quiz-off, with Elesa's "quizzes" just being puns; Elesa telling a story of how Rotom once cheered her up when she was in a slump while Rotom plays hide-and-seek; Skyla, Phoebe, and a nearby Scientist taking pictures of Elesa and the player at Elesa's photoshoot, with mixed results, while they wait for Viola to arrive; Elesa and Will discussing fashion and agreeing to battle again in the future; Elesa getting distracted from her shopping by a starstruck Trinnia; Elesa and the player going down to the beach and having fun with other trainers; and Marley asking Elesa for advice on how to speak with people and Elesa encouraging her to speak her mind.

Team Skull Crash Course
This story event ran from March 27 to April 14, 2020. It was focused on Guzma and Golisopod and Plumeria and Salazzle. The "Guzma and Plumeria Spotlight Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Guzma and Golisopod and Plumeria and Salazzle during the duration of the event.
Like "Shining Star", co-op mode was not available and event vouchers could not be obtained to exchange for items at the shop. Instead, the player could obtain travel tokens from the "Challenge Team Break" single player battles. Once a day, these battles provided increased travel token rewards. On top, if the player battled using Guzma and Golisopod, Plumeria and Salazzle, or Liza and Lunatone, the player could obtain +1×, +1× and +0.2× bonus travel tokens respectively. These travel tokens were required to progress through the event map and acquire items along the way.
The event reran from January 17 to February 3, 2022. Battles rewarded players with Event Voucher F, which could be redeemed in the Shop. Daily Extreme Battle 1 could only be challenged once per day. The player could battle using Guzma and Golisopod or Plumeria and Salazzle to obtain +0.6x bonus Event Vouchers; Liza and Lunatone to obtain +0.4× bonus Prize Coins; and the player character and Pikachu or the player character and Torchic to obtain +0.2× bonus Event Vouchers.
Plot
Guzma defeats Liza, Drake, and the player in a battle, but Liza wants to keep battling, despite Guzma's put-downs. She tells Drake she and Tate had each promised to get stronger on their own. Plumeria overhears and scolds Guzma for picking on Liza, but when Liza put herself down for only being "half" a Gym Leader, Guzma and Plumeria both challenge her to get stronger. They are interrupted by a team of trainers who challenge the group.
Guzma, Plumeria, and the player clear the trainers out. Liza is impressed by their strength and asks Guzma to take her as an apprentice. Plumeria convinces a reluctant Guzma to give her a chance, and he tells her to watch him, Plumeria, and the player battle Drake.
Liza seems unsure after watching the battle, so Guzma takes her on himself. After losing again, Liza wonders if she simply cannot get stronger without Tate. Guzma tells her she needs to break free of the way she views herself to grow. After considering this, Liza challenges Guzma, Plumeria, and the player one more time.
Liza is defeated again, but she is pleased with the battle. Drake muses that Liza has been caught up in trying to find her place in the three-on-three battles, compared to how naturally she used to battle together with Tate. Guzma disagrees, saying that she should be used to battling with a team, but she convinced herself that she was fighting alone. He and Plumeria agree that in the last battle Liza was able to relax and rely on her teammates. Plumeria also reminds her to rely on her Lunatone's support. Liza thanks Guzma for his training, and Plumeria, Drake, and the player tease Guzma for being a "kind mentor".
In a series of vignettes, Guzma takes the player to go rock smashing in a tunnel, where they rescue a trainer from Team Break; Plumeria goes downtown with the player to get cocoa, but they end up taking a lost Preschooler back to the Pokémon center instead; Guzma explains how Golisopod is usually gentle, but becomes fierce during battle, and he compares the player to Golisopod; Plumeria talks about Guzma's enthusiasm and kindness, and compares him to her Salazzle, saying there is more to them than meets the eye; Guzma needles Drake about constantly giving younger trainers help and advice, only to be reminded of Hala; Plumeria tells Liza that Guzma became who he is by facing many obstacles, and advises her to keep facing new challenges; Bugsy excitedly approaches Golisopod, and he and Guzma discuss Golisopod and not judging intimidating Pokémon by first impressions; Guzma reluctantly saves a Preschooler's Charmander from being stuck in a tree; Plumeria spots Tate watching Liza's training, and he tells how her progress has inspired him to get stronger, too; Plumeria runs into Lorelei, who challenges her to a battle when she infers that Plumeria also likes cute stuffed Pokémon dolls; and Guzma and Plumeria discuss their reasons for coming to Pasio, with Plumeria inviting the player to come back with them to Alola whenever they decide to leave.

A Reward Boost Ticket could be used in place of a Reward Boost, should a player run out of stocked boosts.
Extra Prize Coins are automatically exchanged with coins once the event is finished.
On June 1, 2020, two additional battles were added to the event, available after completing the story areas.
The event reran from June 24 to July 8, 2021. Battles rewarded players with Prize Coins that can be used to draw items from a Prize Box pool. Challenge Wallace: Part 1 could only be challenged once per day. The grand prizes include new area info to advance the event plot, 5★ Scout Tickets, Skill Spheres, co-op sync orbs, and a Support Move Candy Coin. The player could battle using Dawn and Turtwig/Grotle/Torterra to obtain +0.6x bonus Prize Coins; Lyra and Chikorita/Bayleef/Meganium to obtain +0.4× bonus Prize Coins; and Rosa and Snivy/Servine/Serperior to obtain +0.2× bonus Prize Coins.
Plot
A sync pair contest is being held on Pasio, and Dawn and the player are entering. Shortly before it begins, Dawn helps calm the player's nerves before explaining the three rounds of the contest.
Dawn and the player participate in the visual competition, as do Fantina and Wallace. After the round, Dawn shows some uncertainty about her performance. Before the dance competition begins, she notes that Fantina is known as a talented dancer and a frequent contest participant in Sinnoh.
The four contestants complete the dance competition, after which Dawn praises Turtwig for its performance, Fantina comments on dancing, and Wallace expresses admiration for the many sync pairs on Pasio. The three also praise the player for their performance in the round. Before the final round, the "razzle-dazzle competition", the player asks how it will work, and the others explain that contestants need to impress the judges during a Pokémon battle. Just before the round begins, Dawn muses that the player will be the one to beat.
The four face each other in a Battle Royal-style battle. During the match, Wallace and his Sealeo impress with their water illusions, unnerving Dawn. The player cheers Dawn on, and, encouraged, she sends Turtwig against the pair.
After the final round, the four contestants line up in the stadium for the results. Fantina and Wallace are surprised by their rankings, as the player comes in second, and Dawn receives first place. Wallace and Fantina praise and congratulate the other two. Dawn admits to the player that she had been nervous and thanks to them for helping her.

Plot
Jasmine wonders why her Steelix seems depressed as she polishes her when Serena and the player arrive. Serena suggests they make Steelix a cake to cheer her up.
Serena brings the group to the forest to search for fresh Berries to use in the cake. They find Wally training with Gallade, and he tells them Gallade seems to be having trouble staying in sync with him. Serena decides to make her cake big enough for them to have a party for everyone, and Wally volunteers to help.
The groups meet back in town after gathering the ingredients, and the group splits up to look for a cake pan that is the right size. Serena and the player check some shops and find a perfect pan, but when they return to the square to meet up with Jasmine and Wally, they see Elesa in her Sygna Suit, surrounded by fans. Serena greets her before she leaves to battle in the stadium, and Fennekin alerts Serena that the bag of ingredients has disappeared.
Serena apologizes to the others for losing the bag. They encourage her, and they decide to look for whoever took the bag. They ask some nearby Trainers, who mention they saw some masked men running past with it. Serena has an idea of where to find Team Break, and they leave to confront them.
The Team Break members are waiting when the group catches up to them in a cave. The four try to convince them to return the bag of ingredients, but they refuse, saying gloomier Pokémon are easier to steal. Enraged, Serena challenges them to battle.
After defeating the Team Break members, the group retrieves the ingredients and finishes the cake, which they bring to the square. Several trainers and their Pokémon are attracted by the smell, and Serena invites them to join the party. Steelix and Gallade both appear to be feeling better. Elesa and Brock arrive from the stadium and join the party, and Brock is blown away by the delicious cake. Serena thanks to the player for helping with the cake, and she muses that having everyone together might be the best way to cheer up their Pokémon.

When the player steps in for Lusamine, the team appears to be in better sync, and Lusamine seems to think she understands what is wrong. Later, the day of the family battle has arrived, however, the trio note that they are still having trouble with battling together.
At the family battle event, the trio find out that they are battling against Norman, Brendan and Wally. Against such a tough team, Lusamine decides to bow out of the team as she feels that her actions in the past have driven a wedge in the family, which is why they haven't been able to fight well together. She asks the player character to take her place, but Lillie calls out Lusamine for her selfishness. Norman helps Lusamine to realize that battling along with her children would be best. The three then go on to defeat Norman, Brendon and Wally.
In a series of vignettes, Lillie takes the player to search for her Clefairy along the mountain path, and they find her waiting with Gladion for Lillie to arrive; Gladion searches for a Pokémon that can produce string so he can fix a rip in his clothes, but when he obtains it from a Trainer with a Spinarak, he instead uses it to fix the players clothes, which were ripped while they were searching; Hapu introduces Gladion to Grimsley, whom Gladion recognizes as someone of a similar personality who can help him become stronger, and Hapu gives him the nickname "Gladion the Gladiator" to Lillie, Grimsley, and Shauntal's delight and Gladion's dismay; Lillie teams up with Erika and Caitlin to battle, and Gladion and Darach note the hard work she is putting into improving as a Trainer; Nanu and Olivia encounter Pheromosa, but Lusamine stops them from attacking it, explaining that it appeared to her one-day and has joined her in a sync pair, and when Bugsy and Viola arrive and begin admiring Pheromosa, Nanu backs off; Acerola and Serena find Lusamine watching Lillie shopping for clothes with Lisia and Candice from a distance, and they try to convince her to let Lillie make her own choices, even when Clair joins the shopping group; Lusamine and Guzma encounter each other on the street, and Guzma notes that Lusamine has changed from the power-hungry person he used to admire, but he says that Lillie and Gladion deserve to have the current Lusamine, who cares for them, and Lusamine muses that Guzma has also changed as he leaves; Lillie and Gladion join Lance, Clair, Tate and Liza in the field to train, and Gladion notes how the relationships between them affect their teamwork in battles, but the others reply that he and Lillie have a similarly good relationship, as well; Lusamine encounters Silvally while searching for Pheromosa on the beach, and she wonders if it hates her for her role in its creation, but Gladion arrives and tells her Silvally prefers to look to the future over dwelling on the past and encourages her to do the same; and after a battle against another Trainer team, Gladion notes that Lusamine and Pheromosa are stronger than him and Silvally and declares his intention to get stronger, and when Lillie makes a similar declaration, Lusamine challenges to try to surpass her strength.

Volkner and the player character are at the edge of the town where they meet a burned-out Flint. Volkner explains that they had planned on battling each other to determine whether Electric or Fire-types were superior; however, Volkner had to go searching for Flint when Flint had not shown up. Volkner asks the player to battle him, which could help reignite the fire in Flint. However, the lights suddenly turn off as the town experiences a blackout.
The lights are restored soon after, and the player notices Clemont who has come out to investigate the blackout. Volkner and Clemont converse briefly about machines before Volkner also asks Clemont to help in reigniting Flint. Volkner suggests a two-on-one battle, with the player and Clemont against him and his Luxray. A heated battle ensues between Luxray, Clemont's Heliolisk and the player's Pikachu. Despite another blackout, the battle continues with the light from the Electric-type Pokémon. The battle awakens Flint's passion, who thanks Volkner for helping him. Volkner in turn recalls a moment when Flint had helped him reignite his passion for the battle back at Sunyshore City, which subsequently moves Flint to tears. Flint then reveals that he had become so burnt out after training for his battle with Volkner, which included some rough training with a machine borrowed from some Black Belts.
Masked Men from Team Break then appear, hoping to steal away the Pokémon tired after the intense battle. However, Flint and Volkner battle and easily defeat the Masked Men. After the battle, Clemont attempts to get some water for them from a nearby vending machine but comes back after noticing the vending machine had gone through a strange renovation. It is revealed that Volkner had been the one responsible for renovating the broken vending machines, as well as the Black Belt training device (which in turn had been Clemont's production model of his Trainer-Grow-Stronger Machine). Flint reprimands Volkner for renovating these machines, as the excess electricity used by these machines were the likely cause of the blackouts.

Plot
Skyla and the player meet up with Erika on the streets of Pasio, with Erika gazing at a large tree in the centre of the plaza. Erika reveals that she had been thinking about decorating the area with flower arrangements, but then had noticed the large tree which she would like to decorate instead. Skyla and the player offer to help decorate the tree with Erika by searching for berries and other decorations.
Erika makes a flower wreath based on her Comfey, which Skyla's Togekiss places high up on the tree. However, the wreath soon flies away due to a strong gust of wind, landing close to a Street Thug and his own Comfey. Despite the Street Thug's insistence, his Comfey wants to keep the wreath for itself. Erika suggests that they do something fun to make his Comfey more comfortable in letting the wreath go. The three then battle the Street Thug, after which they receive the wreath. The group, along with the Street Thug's help, finish off decorating the tree, giving joy to those around.

Plot
N and his Zekrom arrive on the island of Pasio, where he is sighted by Hilda, Cheren, and a Masked Man with a Zoroark. Hilbert, keen to meet N again, goes in search for him alongside Hilda, Cheren, and the player character.
Meanwhile, N is exploring the streets of Pasio where he meets Iris and Bianca. Iris, who is keen to show N around, leads the group to the Pasio arena. As Champion of Unova, Iris challenges N to a battle, noting that N had defeated Alder in the past. An intense battle follows between Iris's Haxorus and N's Zekrom. Following the battle, the three decide to look for Hilbert as N is also keen on meeting him on Pasio.
In the forests, Hilbert, Hilda, Cheren, and the player encounter Team Break who are intimidating a Youngster into stealing his Poochyena. When Hilbert challenges them, the leader of this group, the Masked Man with his Zoroark reveals that they have also captured the Youngster's little sister. Team Break makes a deal in releasing the little sister, in exchange for kidnapping the protagonists instead.
N, Iris, and Bianca, unable to find Hilbert, find out from PML staff that he has been captured by Team Break. With the help of the Youngster's Poochyena's sense of smell, the group find and apprehend Team Break at their hideout. However, the Masked Man reveals that capturing Hilbert had all been part of his ploy in attracting N to the hideout. The Masked Man, not a previous member of Team Plasma, notes that he reveres the views of Team Plasma and sees Pasio as a prison for Pokémon. He then asks N to become the king of Team Break. N however reveals that through his travels, he has seen the potential that can be found when people and Pokémon could be together. Refusing to back down, the group battle Team Break and succeed in defeating the Masked Man and his group.

This event reran from January 4 to 18, 2022. The "Lillie and Lance Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Lance (New Year's 2021) and Gyarados and Lillie (New Year's 2021) and Ribombee during the duration of the event. The Dragon of Good Fortune area did not return for this rerun.
Plot
Lillie and Lance arrive on Pasio, dressed in traditional clothes from Johto, and give a present to the player. They mention to the player that other sync pairs on Pasio are also giving out presents.
Lillie, Lance, and the player head into town, seeing Bugsy, Kris, Valerie, Koga, Janine, Morty, Pryce, and Whitney and Jasmine with a Pelipper. They come across Pelipper's Trainer, a Pokémon Ranger, noticing that it looks a bit ill. Lillie offers the Pelipper one of Ribombee's pollen puffs. Pelipper becomes noticeably better, but still needs to rest at the Pokémon Center. However, Pelipper and its Trainer were in the middle of delivering greeting cards. Lance offers to help out by having his Dragonite deliver the cards in Pelipper's place, and asks if Lillie and the player want to meet up with some other Trainers while doing so. They agree, and leave town to go deliver the cards.
They first meet up with Silver with his Ho-Oh and Sneasel and Blue, with his Blastoise and Pidgeot, who are training together. Lance speaks with Silver, and gives him cards from Ethan and Lyra. Blue receives cards from many Gym Leaders and Elite Four members, and asks if Red and Leaf have received the cards he sent to them yet. Silver also gives Lance Ho-Oh feathers in place of cards for him, Ethan, and Lyra.
After delivering the cards to Ethan and Lyra, Lance gets a card from his cousin, Clair, with a battle challenge. They battle, Lance's Gyarados versus Clair's Kingdra. Lance wins the battle, having an advantage due to Clair expecting him to battle with his Dragonite rather than his Gyarados.
After finishing delivering all the cards, the Pokémon Ranger and her Pelipper give Lance, Lillie, and the player cards of their own, telling them to give the cards to the people close to them. Lillie gives her cards to her friends and family from Alola. After giving out the cards, Lance, Lillie, and the player get their photo taken by Viola, and Lillie wishes everyone a happy new year.

Plot
Serena and Dawn invite the player to go into town, in their new Palentine's Day-themed outfits. After meeting up, Dawn and Serena tell the player that they need to start collecting ingredients to make some Palentine's Day sweets through winning Pokémon battles. While heading to a shop to check out some ingredients, they run into an Ace Trainer and Cheryl. Cheryl tells the group that the Ace Trainer wants to make some sweets for someone close to her, but isn't very good at it. Dawn invites Cheryl and the Ace Trainer to make sweets with her, Serena, and the player, and they accept.
After collecting all the ingredients they need, Dawn, Serena, the player, Cheryl, and the Ace Trainer start looking for a place to start making the sweets. They run into Lillie, who asks the player if they're getting ready for Palentine's Day too. The player says yes, and Lillie tells them that she is making sweets with Professor Bellis and Mina. The player's group asks Lillie if they can all tag along with her, and she agrees. Everything is going well with the cooking, until something explodes because of the Ace Trainer. Everyone in the group offers to help out, until something explodes again and the Ace Trainer runs away. Professor Bellis tells the group, along with another Ace Trainer, to look for the first Ace Trainer while she cleans up the results of the two explosions.
Dawn, Serena, Lillie, Mina, Cheryl, and the player find the Ace Trainer, who is very upset over her skills as a cook. After brainstorming a bit, the group comes up with an idea that could help the Ace Trainer make sweets without something bad happening. The Ace Trainer is unsure at first, until the second Ace Trainer from before tells her that she can do it. Along with the encouragement of the group's Pokémon and the second Ace Trainer, she decides to give cooking another try and succeeds, making some delicious sweets she shares with her new friends, the other Ace Trainer and her partner Pokémon.

Plot
Ingo and Emmet have arrived on Pasio aboard a train. Overhearing Barry, Dawn, and the player talking about rails on a mountain, they get an idea and travel there. When Barry, Dawn, and the player arrive, the Subway Bosses explain that they're planning to recreate the Battle Subway experience on Pasio. However, the rails only run partially through the mountain, so Ingo and Emmet head to the Battle Villa to ask Lear for permission to excavate the tunnel further.
After defeating Thorton and Darach's teams, the Subway Bosses reach Lear. Lear gives them the permission to excavate the tunnel, but says they must ask Clay"s permission before they can begin. Clay agrees to let them mine the tunnel, as long as they let Roark and Steven keep any Fossils or rare stones they find. Ingo and Emmet agree to this, and excavation begins.
A few days later, the work is complete, and sync pairs appear in large numbers to experience battling on rails. Within the mountain, Ingo and Emmet wait to battle any sync pairs who can reach them. After winning a battle against Nate and Hilda, they're challenged by Cynthia and Wally. Cynthia apologizes for not having been able to visit Nimbasa City while she was visiting Unova, but now, she's ready to battle them, and the Subway Bosses gladly accept her challenge.

Plot
Lillie, Steven, and N invite the player to a battle event that Lear has chosen them to host: the Unity Gala. They wear special outfits provided for them by Lear, excited to host stylish battles in front of an audience.
At the gala, Lillie chooses Professor Kukui as her first opponent. She thanks him for all the support she got from him in Alola, offering him a battle against her Legendary partner Pokémon Lunala to show off her gratitude, and Kukui happily accepts the offer. In the audience, Elio and Selene cheer for Lillie, while Gladion admits that Lillie has grown strong enough for him to consider her his rival.
After Lillie and Kukui's battle is over, it's N's turn to step onto the arena. Before the match, however, Lear requests N to give a speech, with Sawyer explaining that Lear wishes to support his dream and help him spread his message. N gives a speech on his views of the bonds between people and Pokémon, and urges everyone to treasure the bond they have with their partner Pokémon in order to persist through the occasional harshness of reality. He also admits that Pasio is just about the closest thing to his ideal as anywhere can be. After the speech is over, N asks the player to battle against him, but Hilbert and Hilda wish to battle N too, so N instead decides to team up with the player and make the match a Double Battle.
In his first match, Steven faces Wallace, using his Shiny Rayquaza partner in the battle and thanking Wallace in helping him in uncovering the mysteries surrounding Rayquaza and thus learning to understand it better. He remembers a battle he once had against another Rayquaza, with a formidable Trainer standing by his side to help. Now that he's partnered up with this Rayquaza on Pasio, he wishes to grow strong enough with it to surpass that Trainer. He also expresses his hopes of battling the other Trainer on Pasio who's teamed up with a Rayquaza someday. While he and Wallace resume their match, Zinnia is listening nearby.
Later, Nate and Rosa admire N's Reshiram and wish to support him in realizing his dream; Rayquaza becomes interested in Leon's Eternatus due to its meteorite-like energy; Liza and Lunatone are fascinated by Lunala; Professor Sycamore and N compare the similarities between the Legendary Pokémon of Unova and Kalos; and Zinnia and Steven's Rayquaza partners become interested in one another, with Zinnia wishing to battle Steven someday to see which of their Rayquaza is stronger.
