Rose (Japanese: ローズ Rose) is the president of the Macro Cosmos conglomerate and the chairman of the Galar Pokémon League. He was the first person to endorse Leon as a Champion, and also sponsored Bede's Gym Challenge. He also designed and developed the metropolis of Wyndon, which houses the headquarters for both the Galar Pokémon League and Macro Cosmos. Like his estranged brother Peony, he uses Steel-type Pokémon.

In the core series games

Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details.

Rose first appears in the games' introduction movie, where he narrates the "World of Pokémon" presentation alongside his Cufant. He then hosts the opening ceremony for the League Challenge at Motostoke Stadium, introducing the player to him, his secretary Oleana, and all the Gym Leaders except for Piers. Following the ceremony, he directly approaches the player and Hop to further speak about the challenge.

Later, the player and Sonia meet up with Rose and Oleana in Hulbury. Despite being dressed in casual clothing and sunglasses as a form of disguise, Rose is still surrounded by fans seeking his autograph, much to Oleana's annoyance. After the player defeats Nessa at Hulbury Stadium, they go with Sonia to meet Rose for dinner at the Captain's Table, a local seafood restaurant.

Rose next appears in front of Hammerlocke Stadium, discussing his plans with Bede. He then greets the player and invites them into the stadium to give a short lecture about Galar's energy production, as well as his goal to harness the power in Wishing Stars. Afterwards, Rose suggests that the player visit the vault before leaving to return to work.

Bede later borrows Rose's Copperajah and uses it to demolish the mural in Stow-on-Side, looking for Wishing Stars. After he is stopped by the player, Rose shows up to voice his disappointment, stating Bede shows "no love for Galar", and disqualifies him from the Gym Challenge.

During the player's travels, Rose discusses with Leon a plan to secure an energy source for Galar that can avert a projected energy crisis that would occur within the next 1,000 years. When Hop and the player head to Rose Tower to confront Leon for failing to appear for dinner, they catch a discussion between the two, with Leon arguing that Rose's plan can wait until after the Championship Match and Rose insisting on taking action immediately. He then apologizes for delaying them, but after Leon departs, Rose begins to enact his scheme. He releases Eternatus, which he had been energizing with the Wishing Stars collected by Bede, to enact a second Darkest Day in order to provide Galar with a near-infinite supply of energy.

However, Eternatus proves to be impossible to control, and Rose is forced to interrupt the Championship Match between the player and Leon to enlist Leon's help to defeat and catch Eternatus. Hop and the player follow Leon to the Energy Plant to confront Rose, with Hop being defeated by Rose's Pokémon and Rose in turn losing to the player. After his defeat, Rose applauds the player and invites them and Hop to join Leon at the Tower Summit, confident in Leon's chances of capturing Eternatus. However, while Leon had worn down the Pokémon, he was unable to catch it; and it is only stopped by the combined strength of the player, Hop, Zacian, and Zamazenta before being captured by the player. Rose is not seen again after Eternatus's capture, having turned himself over to the authorities. Subsequently, Leon takes over Rose Tower and inherits the position of League Chairman from Rose, using these new positions to create the Battle Tower and Galarian Star Tournament.

According to Oleana, Rose once worked in a coal mine a long time ago. In The Crown Tundra, Peony is revealed to be Rose's younger brother. When they were young, they caught Peony's first Pokémon, Cufant, together. However, their relationship deteriorated due to Peony frequently being compared to his more accomplished brother. Peony went on to become a Gym Leader and later Champion, but when Rose became the Galar League chairman, Peony resigned his Champion status and disappeared.[2]

League Cards

This is a transcript of the back of Rose's League Cards in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Normal League Card
"Mr. Rose is in fact a talented Trainer, coming in second place for a past Champion Cup. As the chairman of the Pokémon League, and as the president of a large business conglomerate, he is truly a hero to the Galar region, working tirelessly to ensure its prosperity. His thoughts and words don't always match, and thus many say it's hard to tell what he's talking about. In fact, it is said that only his secretary can tell what his true intent is. (NOTE: The above text was submitted by his secretary.)"
Rare League Card
"Chairman Rose is a dedicated philanthropist who spent much of his own time and money researching the ancient disaster known as the Darkest Day, all in order to solve Galar's energy issues. He firmly believes that actions speak louder than words and will often make decisions without revealing his thinking to others. For better or for worse, it is this style of leadership that has allowed the Macro Cosmos conglomerate to grow to where it is today. (NOTE: The above text was submitted by his secretary.)"

Rose in the anime

Prior to Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Rose was responsible for inserting Leon into the world of Pokémon battles, and this approach made Leon move away from his childhood friend Sonia. He also worked for years with Professor Magnolia on the so-called Galar particles, which is the basis of the power that allows Pokémon to Dynamax and Gigantamax. Together, they created the Dynamax Band, but Rose had his own goals for the phenomena, which prompted Professor Magnolia to end their partnership.

Rose debuted in Toughing It Out!, where he applauded Leon for defeating Raihan in a World Coronation Series match.

In Sword and Shield, Slumbering Weald!, Rose visited the Energy Plant with Oleana. While there, he watched as the plant's reactor released an overload of Dynamax energy, claiming to himself that it would prove to truly be an eternal energy source that could be used for the Galar region. Later, he was seen riding in a car with Oleana when the latter received a phone call about rampaging Dynamax Pokémon that had been agitated by the stray energy bursts. Despite the news, he refused to back down from his plans, resolving to himself that some sacrifices would have to be made in the name of Galar's prosperity.

In Sword and Shield: The Darkest Day!, Rose initially observed an experiment to inject Galar particles into the Energy Plant's reactor. When Oleana asked him if he wished to pause the experiment so the reactor's hangar could be strengthened, he refused, stating his belief that the disaster that once endangered Galar, the Darkest Day, would be resurrected as Eternatus, which he called the savior of the region. Later, he and Oleana visited a mine where a Gigantamax Coalossal had been rampaging after being exposed to a burst of Dynamax energy from the reactor. There, he met up with Ash and Leon and invited the former to a dinner at Macro Cosmos's headquarters in Wyndon's Rose Tower. During the dinner, Rose explained that Galar's prosperity allowed him to rise out of poverty and establish Macro Cosmos, and as a result, he was willing to do anything to ensure this prosperity would last for a thousand years. He requested that Ash stay at his side and help him accomplish that dream, offering to sponsor Ash with his vast resources in exchange. Much to Rose's surprise, Ash refused the offer.

Rose as a child

In Sword and Shield: "From Here to Eternatus!", Rose confronted Ash and Leon in Hammerlocke Stadium after Eternatus escaped from the Energy Plant's reactor. He explained that while ancient people who feared Eternatus came to know it as the Darkest Day, he had given it its proper name as an indication of the infinite amounts of Galar particles it could produce, which he planned to use to provide Galar with a millennium's worth of energy. He further revealed that he had the additional motive of preventing any further tragedies like the one he suffered as a young boy, where his father was killed in a coal mine collapse. In order to complete his agenda, Rose sponsored talented young Trainers, especially Leon in order to become a modern-day hero figure who would ultimately subdue and catch Eternatus to ensure it could be kept as a power source. When Leon refused and instead said he would only catch Eternatus to seal it away again, Rose grew angry, sent out his Copperajah, and ordered it to attack. However, Ash intervened and battled Rose to buy Leon enough time to defeat Eternatus. Rose then sent out his Ferrothorn to stand against Pikachu and Riolu.

Rose reappeared in Sword and Shield... The Legends Awaken!, where his battle with Ash continued while Eternatus gathered energy above the stadium. He was ultimately defeated when Ash's Riolu evolved into Lucario, and was seen running to check on his fallen Pokémon. Later, when Eternatus achieved its Eternamax form, Rose was watching with Oleana from a helicopter nearby. The emergence of Eternamax Eternatus excited him and he cheered it on, urging it to show its full power. He was dismayed when Zacian and Zamazenta arrived to turn the tide of the battle, but his helicopter was soon caught in Eternatus's Eternabeam, forcing it to fly away.

After Ash and Goh caught Eternatus and put an end to the Darkest Day, Rose disappeared. His whereabouts remained unknown to Professor Magnolia and Sonia, though Leon continued to search for him.

Rose briefly reappeared in Partners in Time!, where he, alongside Oleana, witnessed Eternatus restoring and stabilizing the Dynamax energy at Wyndon Stadium during Ash and Leon's battle in the Masters Eight Tournament finals.

Rose held this Eternatus in the Energy Plant's reactor, planning to strengthen it with Galar particles so it could serve as a source of infinite energy for the Galar region. After a number of experiments in which Galar particles were injected into the reactor, it escaped from its containment field within Hammerlocke Stadium in Sword and Shield: "From Here to Eternatus!". Above the stadium, Eternatus began gathering massive amounts of energy from across the region. In Sword and Shield... The Legends Awaken!, Eternatus transformed into its Eternamax form, but with Zacian and Zamazenta's help, Ash and Goh managed to defeat and catch it, allowing it to be sealed away.

Pokémon: Twilight Wings

Rose debuted in Letter, where he was first seen watching a Pokémon League tournament battle between Leon and Bea. Afterwards, he visited a hospital and signed some children's shirts. Rose was then about to leave when he was approached by John, a fan of Leon's who wanted him to give Leon a letter. Since John reminded him of Leon, Rose agreed to fulfill his request. Later, he saw the letter contained a drawing of Leon and his Charizard.

In Training, Rose was informed by Oleana that Bea was going to be training at the Wild Area for a while and thus be away from her Gym for the time being. He approved of Bea's decision and expressed his hope that she wouldn't push herself too hard.

In Early-Evening Waves, Rose approached Nessa following her loss to Milo during the Champions Cup. He suggests that her two roles of Gym Leader and a model limited reaching her top potential in either one of them, therefore being responsible for her losing streak.

In Assistant, Rose's past with Oleana was explored, revealing how her research had won his admiration. In the present day, he called Oleana over to accompany him after an intense day of work.

In Moonlight, Rose gave John's letter to Leon at Rose Tower.

In Sky, Rose was at Wyndon Stadium, opening up the match between Leon and Raihan.

Pokémon Adventures

Rose debuted in Crackle!! Practice Battle. He was first seen at Rose Tower, where he received a call from Leon about endorsing Henry Sword and Casey Shield for the Gym Challenge.

In Toasty!! Battle Against Toxapex, Rose encountered Henry and Marvin in Hulbury. Seeing potential in Henry, Rose invited the boy to dinner at the Captain's Table restaurant should he win his upcoming Gym battle with Nessa. Later, after his victory against Nessa, Henry and Sonia had dinner with Rose. Noting Sonia's investigation of the Dynamax phenomenon, Rose suggested she may find hints about it in Galar's history. He had Oleana make arrangements for Sonia to be allowed access to the vault in Hammerlocke.

In Teary!! The Voice of the Master, Bede tried using Rose's Copperajah to destroy the Stow-on-Side mural, but was caught in the act by Casey, Marvin, Professor Magnolia, and Allister. He was apprehended by several League Staff members at the request of Rose, who subsequently reprimanded Bede for damaging a piece of Galar's history. Bede was then punished with disqualification from the Gym Challenge.

In Stealth!! Infiltrate the Energy Plant, after an earthquake shook Hammerlocke, Raihan went into the Energy Plant to see if Rose was safe. There, he found Rose and Oleana, who explained the shaking was due to an experiment with Wishing Stars. They hoped to find a new source of electricity to prevent an energy crisis a thousand years away. Raihan agreed to keep what he learned secret and left without issue, though Oleana noted he didn't believe their explanation. They then prepared to feed the Wishing Stars to an Eternatus they held captive.

In Rumble!! The Horrific Darkest Day, the Gym Leaders were informed by Leon and Sonia that Rose was working together with Sordward and Shielbert. They, along with Henry's group, gathered at Rose Tower to find out if Rose intended on bringing harm to Galar. Rose wasn't in the building, but appeared on a video screen, where he revealed his plan to release Eternatus and restart the Darkest Day, thus ensuring the safety of Galar's future. Power Spot lights began appearing all over the region, causing Pokémon to start Dynamaxing at random.

In PASS27, Henry, Casey, Sonia, Leon, Raihan, Nessa, Melony, Piers, Hop, Bede, and Marnie traveled to the Energy Plant, where they found Rose ecstatic that his plan was a success. Rose explained he meant no harm to Galar and had several contingency plans to deal with the Dynamaxed Pokémon. One such plan was Sordward and Shielbert, who were currently in battle with Eternatus. Despite possessing the Rusted Sword and Shield, the brothers failed to defeat Eternatus and were sent flying off Hammerlocke Stadium. Rose saved the brothers, but was disappointed by their performance and questioned the legitimacy of their royal lineage. Rose sent his Gigantamax Copperajah to battle Eternatus and had Oleana convince the others to assist him. By the time they arrived, Leon's group found Rose had already been defeated. While Bede kept Rose safe, Leon's group successfully took Eternatus down, only for it to get back up and change into its Eternamax form.

In PASS29, the others were quickly overwhelmed, but were saved by Zacian and Zamazenta. The two Pokémon tried using the rusted artifacts, but they and Henry were snatched by Eternatus. Zacian and Zamazenta struck Eternatus with a double Giga Impact, causing a massive explosion of energy and light. Once the light cleared, Henry, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus had all vanished. After being taken to a hospital to recover from his injuries, Rose willingly turned himself over to the police and stepped down from his position as chairman.

In PASS43, after the Darkest Day had been stopped and Eternatus contained, Bede paid Rose a visit while the latter was still in jail. Rose apologized to Bede for how he mistreated him previously, revealing his distant attitude was an act to prevent the boy from being considered an accomplice to his crimes.
