Seel (Japanese: パウワウ Pawou) is a Water-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Dewgong starting at level 34.
Biology
Seel is a quasi-quadrupedal Pinniped Pokémon, which lives on icebergs in frigged waters. It thrives in extreme cold temperatures; the colder its environment gets, the more active it becomes. Preferring to sleep during the day, it hunts for prey under sheets of ice in the late day and evening hours. On top of its head is a sharp protrusion, which it uses to easily plow through thick ice floes and bore holes up to the surface to breath. It possesses a thick hide covered in a very light blue, almost white fur which helps insulate it from the elements. It has a light tan maw, with a large red tongue that is always sticking out. It also has a set of small upward facing tusks, which can also be used to chip away at ice in unison with the protrusion on its head. It has a small black nose with nostrils that have adapted to close while swimming in waters as cold as 40 below 0°F. While it is a graceful swimmer, on land it is very awkward and struggles to get about, preferring only to leave the water if necessary. It can be found in the Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh and Unova regions.
In the animeIn the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
In Pokémon Adventures, Seel is the first Pokémon Lorelei owned. As a child, Lorelei saw her Seel become poisoned due to the effects of nearby industrialization. Agatha, who was passing by, healed the Seel using her Gastly. This encounter with the negative effects that humanity had on Pokémon would be the motivation Lorelei had to join the Elite Four in a plot to destroy all humanity years later.
Pryce owns two Seel that assist him in sculpting ice.
In the Pokémon Zensho manga
Satoshi received a Seel from Misty. He releases it upon his arrival in the Seafoam Islands.
In the TCGOther appearances
Seel is a Pokéfloat. After the second half of Venusaur is revealed, the screen moves continually to the right without stopping and so fighting does not stay on Seel for very long.

Trivia
- Seel can be seen as a parallel to Spheal. Seel is exclusive to Pokémon Diamond, while Spheal is exclusive to Pokémon Pearl, with both found in the same locations in their respective versions. Additionally, both can only be obtained by breeding their evolved forms in Pokémon Platinum. Both Pokémon also appear to be based on Pinnipeds.
Origin
Seel is based on seal pups, bearing resemblance to a newborn harp seal. The horn on the top of Seel's head may also be loosely based on the narwhal.
Name origin
Seel is a corruption of the sea creature seal.
Pawou may come from the onomatopoeia of a seal bark.
