Rock Smash (Japanese: いわくだき Rock Smash) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II. It was TM08 when it was introduced, and became HM06 in Generation III, as its use became essential for completing the game.
Effect
Generation II and III
In battle
The move damages the target and has a 50% chance of lowering the target's Defense.
Rock Smash has a base power of 20.
Outside of battle
Smashes rocks to clear the path, potentially finds Pokémon inside (usually Geodude).
Generation IV
In battle
Same as before, but with a base power of 40 instead.
Outside of battle
Same as before, but Pokémon no longer appear.

Pokémon
Geodude. Using one hand, Geodude smashes rock and peices of the rock go flying.
- Used by Roxanne's Geodude in A Winner By A Nosepass!.
Shiftry. Using one hand, Shiftry smashes rock and pieces of the rock go flying.
- Used by Spenser's Shiftry in Ka Boom with a View!.
Whiscash. Whiscash's whole body glows yellow. It then falls on the target.
- Used by Juan's Whiscash in Eight Ain't Enough!.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Rock Smash is Charizard's Side Special move. Unlike the Pokémon games, Rock Smash is a move with high damage and knockback and can potentially KO a foe in one hit.
