Water-type moves are super effective against Fire-, Ground-, and Rock Pokémon, while Water-type Pokémon are weak to Electric- and Grass moves.

During rain (introduced in Generation II) or Primordial Sea (introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), the power of Water-type moves is increased by 50%. During harsh sunlight (introduced in Generation II), the power of Water-type moves is decreased by 50%. During Desolate Land (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Water-type moves will fail.
The move Soak, introduced in Generation V, causes the target to become a pure Water-type Pokémon.
Water-type Pokémon are weak to the Ice move Freeze-Dry, introduced in Generation VI, despite normally being resistant to Ice-type moves.

As of Generation | As of Generation IX, Pokémon or % of all Pokémon are Water-type (counting those that are Water-type in at least one of their forms), making it the most common of the eighteen types among Pokémon, with Normal coming in second. After the introduction of Volcanion in Generation VI, all other types have been paired up with Water at least once, making it the second type to have this trait, after Flying and followed by Psychic.
The Pokémon below are listed by their current types. have had their types changed, usually when a new type was introduced.

==In the TCG== | |||
Water (TCG) | |||
Due to the decreased amount of types in the TCG, Water generally adopts all Ice Pokémon under its typing.
Similar to the games, Water-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak to Grass and Lightning with no resistances. Water-type Pokémon are strong against Fighting and Fire Pokémon, whilst Grass Pokémon and some Colorless Pokémon can resist this type.

The Water type (Japanese: みずタイプ Water type) is one of the eighteen types. Water-type moves are super effective against Fire-, Ground-, and Rock-type Pokémon, while Water-type Pokémon are weak to Electric- and Grass-type moves.
Battle properties
Note: Type effectiveness multipliers may vary in other games outside the core series.

Additional effects
During rain (introduced in Generation II) or heavy rain (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), the power of Water-type moves is increased by 50%. During harsh sunlight (introduced in Generation II), the power of Water-type moves is decreased by 50%. During extremely harsh sunlight (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Water-type moves will fail.
The move Soak, introduced in Generation V, causes the target to become a pure Water-type Pokémon.
Water-type Pokémon are weak to the Ice-type move Freeze-Dry, introduced in Generation VI, despite normally being resistant to Ice-type moves.
Pokémon
As of Generation IX, 159 Pokémon or 15.51% of all Pokémon are Water-type (counting those that are Water-type in at least one of their forms), making it the most common of the eighteen types among Pokémon, with Normal coming in second. After the introduction of Volcanion in Generation VI, all other types have been paired up with Water at least once, making it the second type to have this trait, after Flying and followed by Psychic.
The Pokémon below are listed by their current types. Some Pokémon have had their types changed, usually when a new type was introduced.

Moves
As of Generation IX, there are 53 Water-type moves, which makes up 5.67% of all moves (excluding those that are Water-type only under certain circumstances), causing it to tie with Dark as the 5th most common type among moves, after Fighting and before Electric.
Prior to changes in Generation IV, all damaging Water-type moves were special, but they may now also be physical depending on the attack.

In the TCG
- Main article: Water (TCG)
Due to the decreased amount of types in the TCG, Water generally adopts all Ice-type Pokémon under its typing.
Similar to the games, Water-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak to Grass and Lightning with no resistances. Water-type Pokémon are strong against Fighting and Fire Pokémon, whilst Grass Pokémon and some Colorless Pokémon can resist this type.
