Physiology
Poochyena, as its name implies, is a quadrupedal Pokémon similar in appearance to hyenas and canines. Its body is primarily gray with a black face and throat, paws, and belly. Its eyes are red with yellow sclerae, and it has a red nose. Its lower jaw has two pointed teeth sticking out. The fur at the base of its tail is rumpled and shaggy. Poochyena has gray paw pads on its three-toed paws.
Poochyena's body is gray, with black coloration on its face, feet, ear insides and underbelly. The coloration on its underbelly, however, is not entirely continuous, with the coloration on the throat being separate from the coloration on the lower belly. Poochyena's eyes have yellow scleras and red irises and its nose is also red. Two of Poochyena's fangs poke out of its lower jaw, and the fur on its lower back near its tail is rumpled and shaggy. On the bottom of its feet, Poochyena's paw pads have been seen to be gray. Poochyena's main coloration is swapped when it evolves.

Gender differences
Poochyena have a very keen sense of smell, allowing them to find and chase their prey with ease. It takes a bite at anything that moves and makes the hair on its tail bristle out to try to intimidate its foes. Poochyena's vigorous barking attempt at opponents embodies Poochyena's cowardly nature. Known for its tenacious nature, it chases after prey alongside the pack until the victim becomes exhausted. If its victim strikes back, then it may turn tail. It is omnivorous and will eat anything. This Pokémon lives in List of Pokémon by habitat, and List of Pokémon by habitat.

Poochyena is based on a wolf or a hyena, therefore, it is likely that Poochyena would be considered a carnivore. However, it has been seen eating Berries and other fruits, so this could indicate that it is an omnivore.

Nana
A Poochyena named Nana is first seen in Ruby's possession, one of the three Pokémon given to him from his father, Norman, when he was very young. Even 5 years before the events of the RS series, Nana was shown to be a formidable battler, injuring a wild Salamence teaming up with Kiki and Rara, Ruby's Ralts. While it still hadn't evolved, Ruby saw few wild Mightyena that attacked Birch and envied how splendid their fur looked. A few chapters down the line, Ruby would obtain his own Mightyena on Dewford Town when he met up with Steven, and Nana evolved together with Kiki, who touched the champion's Moon Stone. This new evolved form saw a furthering of Nana's abilities, allowing it to perfect its Hyper Beam attack.

Main series
Major appearances
Multiple Poochyena debuted in Get the Show on the Road. They attacked Professor Birch when he got separated from Ash, similarly to what happened in Ruby and Sapphire.

In A Bite to Remember, Max befriended a Poochyena belonging to Katrina. He eventually helped it evolve and become a protector of the preserve.

In The Blue Badge of Courage, the Gym Badge thieves used a Poochyena and a Zigzagoon to battle Misty's Psyduck and Sakura's Espeon, but both were defeated.

In A Six Pack Attack!, a wild Poochyena assisted Professor Birch in finding Professor Oak, May, and Max.

In Grass Hysteria!, Old Man Obee's three Poochyena tracked down Ash and May after they got lost in the Forbidden Forest. They then joined in the fight against TRT's mecha.

In An Explosive Operation!, a Team Flare Grunt used a Poochyena during a Team Flare effort to capture Z2.

In Sobble Spies a Stealthy Strategy!, Jessie pulled a Rocket Prize Master from the Rocket Prize Master to battle Ash and Goh. However, it was defeated by Jacqueline's Inteleon. It reappeared in a flashback in Not Too Close for Comfort!.

Minor appearances
In A Bite to Remember, Brock's demonstration featured a Poochyena evolving into a Mightyena.

In All Things Bright and Beautifly!, a Coordinator's Poochyena competed in the Rustboro Contest.

In Now That's Flower Power!, a Coordinator's Poochyena was in the Slateport City Pokémon Center.

Poochyena (Japanese: ポチエナ Pochiena) is a Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves into Mightyena starting at level 18.

Biology

Poochyena, as its name implies, is a quadrupedal Pokémon similar in appearance to hyenas and canines. Its body is primarily gray with a black face and throat, paws, and belly. Its eyes are red with yellow sclerae, and it has a red nose. Its lower jaw has two pointed teeth sticking out. The fur at the base of its tail is rumpled and shaggy. Poochyena has gray paw pads on its three-toed paws.

This Pokémon lives in grasslands, savannas, and forests.

Main article: Nana

A Poochyena nicknamed Nana is first seen in Ruby's possession, one of the three Pokémon given to him from his father, Norman, when he was very young. Even five years before Creeping Past Cacnea, Nana was shown to be a formidable battler, injuring a Salamence teaming up with Kiki and Rara. While she still hadn't evolved, Ruby saw a few wild Mightyena that attacked Birch and envied how splendid their fur looked. A few chapters down the line, Ruby would obtain his own Mightyena in Dewford Town when he met up with Steven, and Nana evolved together with Kiki, who touched the champion's Moon Stone. This new evolved form saw a furthering of Nana's abilities, allowing her to perfect her Hyper Beam attack.
