Biology
Rowlet's quirky physiology and abilities
Rowlet is a small, avian Pokémon resembling a young owl with a round body and short legs. Its plumage is primarily beige with a white underside and facial disc. The facial disc itself is in the shape of two overlapping circles. It has large black eyes and a stubby beak. The top part of its beak is white, while the lower half is orange-brown. Its feet have two forward-facing toes and one backward-facing toe; they are the same color as the lower half of its beak. Two leaves sprout from its chest arranged to resemble a bowtie. Additional leaves form its tail and line the undersides of its wings.
A nocturnal Pokémon, it will store energy during the day through photosynthesis. It approaches opponents by silently gliding, before unleashing a volley of kicks. This Pokémon can rotate its head almost 180 degrees and has excellent night vision.[1] Its feathers are as sharp as blades, which it launches at foes from the air. Rowlet feels most relaxed in tight, dark spaces. Rowlet is known to even nestle into its Trainer's bag or the front of their jacket. It has been recently seen living in the Terarium of Blueberry Academy.
Rowlet and its evolved forms are the only known Pokémon that can have the Ability Long Reach.
Evolution
Rowlet evolves into Dartrix, which evolves into Decidueye.

In the animeIn the mangaIn the TCGOther AppearancesTrivia
- Including those that gain a new type upon their first evolution, Rowlet is the only first partner Pokémon whose secondary typing does not remain the same throughout its evolutionary line, with both Alolan and Hisuian Decidueye losing the Flying-type and gaining Ghost and Fighting, respectively.
- Rowlet's Japanese name and its romanization were revealed in a tweet of their trademark on April 17, 2016.[2]
- Rowlet and its evolved forms have several distinctions:
- They are the only Grass-type Pokémon in the Flying Egg Group.
- They are the only Pokémon introduced in Generation VII to be in the Hisuian Pokédex.
- They are the only Grass-type first partner Pokémon family whose Pokédex color is not green. Instead, their Pokédex color is brown.
Origin
Rowlet is based on an owl, sharing the most similarities with members of the Tytonidae family — species collectively known as "barn owls" that have heart-shaped faces and dark eyes. In particular, it closely resembles the common barn owl, which was introduced to Hawaii, the region which Alola was based on. Furthermore, Rowlet's Grass type might be a reference to grass owls or the local pueo owl, known for flying over grassy areas on the Hawaiian Islands.
Name origin
Rowlet may be a combination of root, round, or arrow, and owlet (a young owl).
Mokuroh may be a combination of 木 moku (wood) and 梟 fukurō (owl).
