In the manga
During A Tale of Ninetales in Pokémon Adventures, Red caught a Krabby off-screen while he had some Blue's Pokémon in his party by mistake. Later in What a Dragonite, after HM03 (Surf) was destroyed Krabby was traded for Misty's Gyarados, Gyara, since it already knew how to use Surf. Misty later saves a Krabby trapped in Tohjo Falls in Volume 12. This act of kindness prompts Suicune to pick Misty as its trainer, besides her being the expert for Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Trivia
- In Pokémon Platinum, Krabby is the one of the few Pokémon not in the Sinnoh Pokédex, and not introduced in Generation IV, to have a new sprite. Meowth, Muk, Oddish, Hitmonlee, Ninetales, Primeape, and Registeel are the others.
Origin
It is based upon a crab.
Name origin
Krabby's name is a misspelling of crabby, which means grouchy or ill-tempered, but as it does not display these traits it may have simply been wordplay with the word "crab". Its Japanese name is simply crab.
