Luxray (Japanese: レントラー Rentorar) is an Electric-type Pokémon.
It evolves from Luxio starting at level 30. It is the final form of Shinx.
Biology
Physiology
Luxray's appearance is based on that of a fully-grown lion. It has three gold-colored rings on the backs of its legs, similar to Luxio (which has two) and Shinx (which has one) and has eyes with golden pupils and irises and red scleras. Luxray has a blue body partly covered with a spiky black mane from its head to its front legs and parts of its back legs. It has a long, thin black tail with a gold four-pointed star shape on the tip.
Gender differences
The female has a shorter mane than the male.
Special abilities
Luxray have extraordinary eyesight. It is so powerful that they can see through most objects and walls, like x-ray vision. Their electricity is also very reactive, and will flare uncontrollably when angered.
Behavior
Luxray are extremely vicious and predatorial, although when tamed and trained correctly they can become very loyal and faithful, protecting their Trainer from danger. They tend to be stubborn and can administer extreme amounts of power through their electricity. Because of their flawless x-ray like vision, practically nothing can go unseen by their eyes. Abusing a Luxray can cause it to become antagonistic and vengeful towards their Trainer. Luxray need a lot of compassion and praise to maintain their satisfaction, as they are proud creatures. While generally independent, Luxray may band together in large groups and look out for one another in the wild.
Habitat
It lives in plains and various grassy areas. This may relate to how it is based on a lion.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food

- Main article: Rayler
In Pokémon Adventures, Mars used her Luxray to steal energy from Valley Windworks. In the graphic novel releases, however, Electivire assumes this role.
Later, when the trio are traveling through Mt. Coronet, a Luxray that evolved from a Luxio they had helped earlier in their journey saved Pearl and Platinum after they were trapped by a rock slide. This same Luxray later appeared to Pearl as he was traveling to Lake Valor, and after defeating the Houndoom that was trying to burn them alive, joined him as his third Pokémon, now named Rayler.
In the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! manga
Hareta's Luxio evolved into Luxray during his Pokémon League battle with Koya.

Trivia
- Luxray is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 523.
Origin
Luxray is based on an adult male lion, or possibly the constellation Leo, due to the fact that it resembles a lion and bears a star shape on the end of its tail. In addition, in European mythology, the lynx was said to have the supernatural power to see through solid objects, much like Luxray.
Name origin
Luxray is derived from lux (a measure of brightness) and x-ray (referring to its x-ray vision).
Rentorar may be a combination of レントゲン rentogen (x-ray) and 虎 tora (tiger).
