In the core series games
Besides being a Gym Leader, Katy runs a bakery named Patisserie Soapberry (Japanese: パティスリー ムクロジ Pâtisserie Mukuroji), having inherited the shop from her family.[1] She believes that both sweets and Bug-type Pokémon have great power despite their small sizes.[2] She was trained in the art of baking under the wing of Kofu.
Because her Gym is so close to Mesagoza, where many Trainers begin their Pokémon journey, Geeta urges Katy to keep her battle style light and easy despite her wanting to go more all out, as evident by her Gym having the lowest-leveled Pokémon in the Paldea League. After her post-game rematch with the player, she has a moment of reflection and decides to step up the difficulty of her Gym to fit her style more.
In addition to the Gym Badge, Katy gives out TM021 (Pounce) after defeating her.
In The Indigo Disk, Katy can be invited to act as a special coach at Blueberry Academy.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Katy appeared in silhouette alongside the other Gym Leaders in Welcome to Naranja Academy!, and was later mentioned as Liko's first challenge at Tera Training.
Katy physically debuted in Put Your Heart Into It! as the owner of Patisserie Soapberry, where Murdock was working for the time being. Katy set a baking contest between Liko and Coral to see which one of them would battle her, which Liko won, allowing Liko to battle her. After Coral threw a tantrum over her loss, Katy gave her a stern scolding and intimidating stare which made Coral leave without further incident. Although Liko lost the battle, Katy gave her a passing mark as she had mastered the basics of Terastallizing.
In Showdown! The Paldea Elite Four, Katy appeared at Naranja Academy to act as Liko's partner against Rika in the Elite Four Tag Battle. In the following episode, Katy played the role of support by having her Lokix protect Liko's Floragato from taking damage. When Lokix ended up poisoned, Katy stopped holding back and had Lokix launch a barrage of attacks to both damage and weaken Rika's Pokémon before succumbing to its status ailment. Despite this, Rika's Clodsire eventually defeated Floragato, winning the battle. Afterward, Katy consoled an emotional Liko, who began crying from the frustration of losing despite giving it her all in battle.
In Shine on, Terastallization! Liko vs. Roy!, Katy met up with Liko along with Ann to encourage Liko before her battle against Roy, Katy then watched the match unfold. After the battle, Katy and Grusha met up with Liko to encourage her on her progress as a Trainer.
In Crash! Team Dragon Rampage!, Dot revealed that after the Rising Volt Tacklers disbanded, Murdock went back to working for Katy at the Patisserie Soapberry.
In Reunion in Cortondo, Katy and Murdock met with Liko, Roy, Dot, and their new traveling companion, Ult. Upon learning the children reformed the Rising Volt Tacklers, Murdock grew concerned for their safety. Katy helped relieve Murdock's worries by having a rematch with Liko to show how much she had grown. She revealed her Teddy had Evolved into a Ursaring and used it to battle Pagogo, which eventually ended in Liko's victory. Afterward, as she and Murdock saw the children off, Katy praised them for continuing to grow despite the hardships they faced. She then suggested that Murdock also had potential to grow, proposing that he rejoin Liko and the others when the time was right.
In We Are the Rising Volt Tacklers!, Katy was shown in a flashback, saying goodbye to Murdock as he left to rejoin the Rising Volt Tacklers.
Character
Katy has a kind and upbeat personality, being friendly to people she meets. However, when people are misbehaving or causing trouble in front of her like with Coral, she becomes more strict and fierce, not being afraid to tell people off. In battle Katy becomes more excited and ruthless, she loves going all out and does not like holding back against opponents, like with her battle against Rika.

Pokémon Adventures
Katy debuted in Skillful! The Mysterious Treasure Hunter!!. She was first seen watching Scarlet participate in the Cortondo Gym's Olive Roll. Once Scarlet successfully completed the Gym Test, she faced Katy in a Gym battle. Although Scarlet emerged victorious, she rejected the Gym Badge Katy offered her, stating she had no need for it. Instead, Scarlet revealed her profession as a treasure hunter looking for the treasures of ruin and requested that Katy provide her with any information she might have on them. Katy had no knowledge on the subject, but agreed to let Brassius know what Scarlet was searching for ahead of time.
Pokémon
Tarountula is Katy's first known Pokémon. It was first used to face Scarlet's Tarountula in a Gym battle, but the result was declared a draw due to both being evenly matched.

Teddiursa is Katy's third known Pokémon. It was first used to battle Scarlet's Sprigatito and won after Terastallizing into a Bug type. Afterward, it was defeated by Scarlet's Tera Flying Pikachu.

- Main article: Katy (Scarlet & Violet 177)
Katy was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Violet ex expansion and the English Scarlet & Violet expansion, with artwork by Akira Komayama. An ultra rare version of the card with artwork by the same illustrator was also included in these sets. It lets players shuffle their hand into their deck, and draw eight cards. This ends the player's turn.
Trivia

- Katy's Japanese Gym Leader title is お菓子の虫.
- The spider web logo on Katy's apron is notably different in her concept art compared to her final design — the unused logo has a more elaborate look, with a depiction of a slice of cake in one section of the web. An apron with the unused logo is shown prominently in the announcement trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.[3]
- Katy has the highest Trainer ID number (993663) of any NPC in the franchise whose ID number is canonically known, as seen in the in-game trade she offers in Blueberry Academy's League Club Room.
- Katy is the only Paldea Gym Leader whose Terastallized Pokémon changes between her initial Gym battle and her rematch battle (due to her Teddiursa having evolved into Ursaring).
- The fact that Katy's Terastallized Pokémon is Teddiursa (and later Ursaring) may allude to common depictions of bears enjoying honey. It may also be a pun on the bugbear, a mythical creature.
- She is also the only NPC Trainer to use a Terastallized Pokémon that is not fully evolved in her final team, as Ursaring is unable to evolve into Ursaluna in Scarlet and Violet.
- Along with Hassel, Katy is also the other Trainer to use a non-fully evolved Pokémon in their League Club Room team.
- Katy's hairstyle and the pattern of her hat resemble insects' antennae, while her tight-fitting clothing with a waistband around her body bears a resemblance to an insect's segmented body.
- Katy was designed by Megumi Mizutani.[4]
