Waterfall (Japanese: たきのぼり Waterfall Climb) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I. It is HM07 starting in Generation II.
Effect
In battle
Generation I-III
Waterfall does damage.
Generation IV
Along with damage, Waterfall also has a 20% chance of causing the target to flinch.
Outside of battle
Generation II and on
Allows players to climb waterfalls. Note that in Generations II and III, the HM move Waterfall is not required to go down waterfalls, whereas in Generation IV it is required. This is probably to prevent players from getting stuck from accidentally going down a waterfall and being unable to get back up.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Waterfall is Squirtle's Special Up move. It can be used by Squirtle as a recovery move and offers high knockback at the very end of the move.
