Cherrim is a small Pokémon with two different forms, both of which are dependent on the weather. This is a clear representation of plants which follow phototropism, and react directly to sunlight intensity. During normal weather conditions, it appears as two crossing purple petals with a short purple stem, a green leafy sepal covering, and two deep pink feet; its eyes appear to be near its legs in this form.
When there is strong sunlight, it appears to have a skirt and "hair" made of pink cherry-blossom petals, radiating outward from a yellow sphere on the back of its head that resembles the center of a flower, along with a small triangular patch of green on its neck. Additionally, two berry-like orbs, resembling cherry-shaped hair ornaments, adorn its head. It has stubby limbs, with the arms being pink and the legs being yellow. Cherrim is said to release all of its pent up anger when it opens. Because of this, it is continuously happy until it closes again. It has been seen many times resting on top of tree branches, waiting for a beam of sunlight so it may change form. Its reactions to sunlight suggest that it is photosynthetic.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Cherrim first appeared in the Seven Stars Restaurant under the ownership of one of its customers, however only its Overcast form was shown.
While in the English localization Cherrim's forms are called Overcast Form and Sunshine Form, the Japanese names of its forms use 「フォルム」 form, which is otherwise only used in the names of forms which are localized as Forme.
Sunshine Form Cherrim seems to remain in a state of euphoria even in its fainting animation in Pokémon Battle Revolution.
Although the Pokédex in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum allows different forms of a Pokémon to be viewed, Cherrim and Castform are the only Pokémon whose alternate forms cannot be viewed in these games. Only the Overcast Form and its gender differences (although it does not have any) are available.
The games do not even state that Cherrim is in Overcast Form while viewing its Pokédex entry.
Origin
It appears that Cherrim is based on cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms are flowers that symbolize Japan.
