Captivate (Japanese: ゆうわく Allure) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation IV. It was TM78 in Generation IV.

Effect

Captivate lowers the Special Attack stat of the target by two stages, if it is the opposite gender. It will fail if the target has the Ability Oblivious, is same gender as the user, or either or both Pokémon are genderless.

Description

Games Description
If it is the opposite gender of the user, the foe is charmed into sharply lowering its Sp. Atk stat.
If it is the opposite gender of the user, the target is charmed into harshly lowering its Sp. Atk stat.
If any opposing Pokemon is the opposite gender of the user, it is charmed, which harshly lowers its Sp. Atk stat.
PMDTDS Reduces the target's Special Attack by 2 levels. Caution: this move affects only enemies that are the opposite gender of the user.

Trivia

  • Mew is the only genderless Pokémon that can learn this move: Mew is able to learn any TM, and can learn it by TM78 in Generation IV.
  • It is likely that Nincada cannot learn Captivate because all moves a Nincada has are transferred to a shed-off Shedinja when it evolves into Ninjask, thus giving the genderless Shedinja a useless move. The same is the case with Attract.
