Trivia
- The Trapinch evolutionary line, along with the Gligar evolutionary line, are the only evolutionary families to be in the Bug Egg Group with no Bug-type members.
- Out of all unevolved Pokémon, Trapinch can learn the most moves by leveling up which its evolutions cannot, excluding Pokémon who evolve via evolutionary stones, such as Skitty and Growlithe.
- Trapinch is able to learn Gust as an Egg move despite not having any wings. This is likely because its evolutions do have wings.
- Trapinch is the only one in its evolutionary line to have a Hidden Ability.
- Trapinch having a higher base attack stat than its evolved form may be a reference the fact that antlion larvae are more aggressive and predatory than their adult stages.
Origin
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:
It is based on the larval stage of the antlion, who spend their days in sandy pits before maturing into a winged, adult stage.
Name origin
Trapinch is a combination of trap (describing traps it uses to catch prey) and pinch (referring to its powerful jaws).
Nuckrar may be a contraction of nutcracker, referencing its nutcracker-like jaws.
