Lumineon (Japanese: ネオラント Neolant) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Lumineon's main body has a rounder appearance than that of its pre-evolution, Finneon. Instead of having a pair of tail fins resembling butterfly wings, Lumineon has pectoral fins that resemble butterfly wings, with a wavy patterning of dark blue on them. Lumineon has teardrop-shaped pelvic fins that can allow it to crawl along the sea floor. It has a tail fin that resembles the tail of Wynaut, being similar in shape and black in coloration, with a spot on it, however the spot is purple instead of white.
Gender differences
The lower parts of Lumineon's butterfly wing-shaped fins are longer on a female.
Special abilities
Lumineon uses the patterns on its four tail fins to attract prey, and has the abilty to crawl under water using the two fins on its chest.
Behavior
It competes for food with Lanturn.
Habitat
Lumineon usually make their home in deep sea trenches or the ocean floor, though small schools of them are known to reside in freshwater rivers and lakes.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Lumineon are omnivorous, though a large portion of their diet consists of the prey they lure with their fin patterns. Occasionally they eat seaweed, and rarer still they can be found with a Rindo Berry.
In the anime
Lumineon first made a brief appearance in The Rise of Darkrai.
Lumineon's debut anime appearance was in Up Close and Personable! where it lured Pokémon to it with its glowing fins.
Zoey's Finneon evolved into a Lumineon before Last Call, First Round!.

Trivia
- Lumineon, along with its pre-evolution Finneon, are the only non-Template:Type2 Pokémon to learn the move Silver Wind by leveling up, and the only Template:Type2 Pokémon to learn it at all.
Origin
Lumineon is probably based on a butterfly fish and a freshwater butterflyfish, but it also possesses wings based on actual butterflies. In its Platinum Pokédex entry, it stated it walked on the seafloor using its fins, similar to a tripod fish. Its iridescent appearance and long fins also share some resembelance to a Siamese fighting fish.
Name origin
Its name comes from luminous and neon. Its Japanese name, Neolant, comes from neon tetra, a species of fish. or maybe from "neon" and "lantern".
In other languages
- German: Lumineon
- French: Lumineon
- Korean: 네오라이트 Ne-oraiteu
- Chinese (Taiwan): 霓虹魚 Ní Hóng Yú - Literally "Secondary rainbow fish". 霓虹 may also be derived from 霓虹燈 Níhóngdēng (neon lamp). The name can also be derived from 霓虹燈魚 Níhóngdēngyú (neon tetra).
