Honchkrow (Japanese: ドンカラス Dongkarasu) is a dual-type Dark/Flying Pokémon.
It evolves from Murkrow when exposed to a Dusk Stone.
Biology
Physiology
Honchkrow is roughly twice the size of its pre-evolution, Murkrow. Its feathers are mainly dark blue, while the underside of its wings is partially red. The tail's base is a white, cylindrical stalk, on which there is a growth of red feathers on the end. Honchkrow has a white and prominent crest of feathers on its chest that bears resemblance to a beard or cravat. Honchkrow has black feet with four toes, arranged in similar fashion as Murkrow's. Its head is supported by a broad and short neck. It has a slightly curved, yellow beak. The circular eyes have a white cornea and the pupils are red. It has dark blue eyelids. A large feather crest on its head makes it appear to be wearing a fedora hat that has spikes extending from the back. Its specific coat of feathers make it bear vague resemblance to a man dressed in a formal suit and a hat.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Like most fully evolved Pokémon it can use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact. It can wield the strong Template:Type2 move Sky Attack. Being a Template:Type2 Pokémon, it can use a few disruptive moves such as Taunt and Torment, and can also learn Dark Pulse.
Behavior
Honchkrow are known to be ruthless. Honchkrow have been known to organize flocks of Murkrow. It is said that a Honchkrow will never forgive the mistakes of the Murkrow that follow it. These flocks have been seen flying at night. The purpose of the flocks is unclear, but they are known to collect food for the Honchkrow that organized them. Honchkrow normally spend the daytime hours tending to their feathers in solitude.

It appeared again in Pursuing a Lofty Goal! where Paul enters it in a PokéRinger competition. However, it lost to Ash's Staraptor, which evolved in the middle of their competition. Paul scolded it after its loss, saying that its reaction time was too slow.

Trivia
- Honchkrow's Speed is lower then its pre-evolution's Speed, likely because it is plumper.
- Since its debut, Honchkrow has been used in battle by the leaders of the two main villainous teams in the Generation IV games, Cyrus and Giovanni.
- Honchkrow's English name uses a Japanese-origin word in its name ("honcho" is derived from hanchō), while Honchkrow's Japanese name uses a western-origin word in its name ("don" is derived from Italian don and Latin dominus). Both are leader-like names and sometimes are used for leaders of shadier organisations.
Origin
Honchkrow is based on of a crow, most resembling the hooded crow. While its pre-evolution Murkrow originally appeared to be based on witches of western folklore, Honchkrow's appearance is reminiscent of a crime boss, giving a new interpretation to Murkrow as a gang member under it. Honchkrow's crest resembles a wide-brimmed fedora hat, an article of clothing often associated with mobsters. Its chubbier appearance may be a result of forcing the Murkrow to preform its deeds instead of doing them itself.
Name origin
Its name is a combination of "honcho", a leader or boss, and "crow".
Don is Spanish for lord and is a title for Mafia leaders, while 烏 karasu is Japanese for crow.
In other languages
- German: Kramshef - From Krähe (crow) and Chef (boss).
- French: Corboss - From corbeau (crow) and boss.
- Korean: 돈크로우 Donkeurou
- Chinese (Taiwan): 烏鴉頭頭 Wū Yā Tóu Tóu - Combination of 烏鴉 (crow) and 頭頭 (chief/head).
