Camerupt is very similar in physiology to a Bactrian camel. However, instead of the usual humps on its back, it has volcanoes. Camerupt's body contains large amounts of molten lava of 18,000°F (10,000°C), which occasionally erupts out of these volcanoes. They also have a stout body with red shaggy fur, a tan furless muzzle. This Pokémon also features three blue ring-shaped markings on the sides of its body which serve no noted purposes other than decoration.
Gender differences
The two volcanoes on a female Camerupt's back are bigger than the ones on a male.
Special abilities
The volcanoes on Camerupt's back will erupt if the Pokémon becomes angered, spewing hot molten rock. This allows it to be able to use damaging Fire moves like Lava Plume and Eruption.
Behavior
Much like real camels, Camerupt are usually placid, but may be very stubborn and bad tempered. They can become uncontrollably angry when struck in the face.
Camerupt first appeared in the main series in Candid Camerupt!Vicky Winstrate used the Eruption Pokémon to battle Ash's Pikachu. Once Pikachu struck Vicky's Camerupt on the nose with Iron Tail, Camerupt went on an Eruption rampage. Vito's Alakazam used Rain Dance in order to stop Camerupt before it could reach the Winstrate's vegetable patch.
Camerupt has a volcano inside its body. Magma of 18,000 degrees F courses through its body. Occasionally, the humps on this Pokémon's back erupt, spewing the superheated magma.
The humps on Camerupt's back are formed by a transformation of its bones. They sometimes blast out molten magma. This Pokémon apparently erupts often when it is enraged.
A Pokémon that lives in the crater of a volcano. Every 10 years, the volcanoes on its back erupt violently. Research is under way on the cause of eruption.
No other Pokémon have the same type combination as Camerupt and its pre-evolved form.
Camerupt's Pokédex entries for Emerald, HeartGold, and SoulSilver say that the volcanoes on its back erupt every 10 years. However, its entries from Sapphire,FireRed, and LeafGreen, as well as dialogue from the Mystery Dungeon series, claim that they erupt whenever it is angry, which is also shown in the anime.
Camerupt is the only Pokémon whose Abilities all differ from those of its pre-evolution.
Camerupt's evolutionary line can be seen as a parallel to Sharpedo's family. Both of them are dual-type Pokémon, and both of their final evolutions are used by Team Magma Leader Maxie and Team Aqua Leader Archie, respectively.
Origin
Camerupt is essentially a Bactrian camel with volcanoes on its back instead of humps.
Bakuuda is a combination of 爆弾 bakudan (bomb) or 爆発 bakuhatsu (explosion or eruption) and 駱駝 rakuda (camel). Baku may also derive from Bactrian camels (camels with two humps).
