Nosepass is composed of hard, angular, bluish-colored rock. It closely resembles the Easter Island Heads, as their body is in the shape of one. Its most prominent feature is its bright red, triangular nose, which is highly magnetic and slightly resembles a 3D arrow. They also have arms and legs, but don't appear to have any joints and have small, circular holes on the undersides. Its arms resemble compass needles. It has similar circular holes where one might expect its ears to be. Its eyes, covered by dark, somewhat mask-like markings, seem perpetually closed in appearance.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Their noses can function as electromagnets that point north. They cannot face each other since they all have the same polarity. Nosepass's magnetism is stronger in cold seasons.
Behavior
It usually stands in one spot with its nose pointing north. It's said to be unmoving, but it actually can shift slightly. When endangered, Nosepass may protect itself by raising its magnetism and drawing iron objects to its body.
This Pokémon apparently feeds on prey that are attracted by its magnetism. This may attract Magnemite (due to their documented liking for electronics and magnetic sources) that may not be edible.
In Pokémon Adventures, Roxanne's main Pokémon is a Nosepass. During her battle against Sapphire she used Nosepass's Magnet Pull so that her Aron cannot be switched. She saves its Poké Ball inside a hollowed-out book. Later when fighting against Team Magma in Lilycove City, Nosepass uses its Block attack to stop Groudon from moving. Unfortunately, Roxanne allows Team Magma to knock Nosepass out to protect some civilians.
Nosepass's magnetic nose is always pointed to the north. If two of these Pokémon meet, they cannot turn their faces to each other when they are close because their magnetic noses repel one another.
Nosepass had been said to be completely unmoving, with its magnetic nose pointed due north. However, close observation has revealed that the Pokémon actually moves by a little over 3/8 of an inch every year.
Nosepass's body is gray and its edges rounded during the main Generation III games, but was changed to blue and more angular in Generation IV, to match its Sugimori artwork. However, its menu sprite was never rectified, and still depicts this in later generations.
Nosepass is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 375.
Nosepass is the only Pokémon that is neither Electric- nor Steel-type that can learn Volt Switch. However, it does evolve into a Steel-type Pokémon.
Due to the censor that prevents Pokémon with offensive nicknames being traded on the GTS, an English language Nosepass cannot be traded on the GTS without a nickname in Pokémon Black and White.
Its nasal compass may be based on the magnetic ethmoid bone that is located between the nasal cavity and the brain, and is known to give some species of birds their sense of direction.
Name origin
Nosepass may be a combination of "nose" and "compass".
