Trivia
- Alomomola is one of four Pokémon whose name is a palindrome, the others being Eevee, Girafarig, and Ho-Oh.
- Alomomola has the highest base HP stat of all Generation V Pokémon.
- All of its special abilities relate to healing its own or a teammates' status or HP.
- When Alomomola's artwork was first revealed, many fans believed it to be an evolved form of Luvdisc due to its color and design.
- Alomomola represents March in the Unova horoscope.
- Alomomola has the distinction of being the first non-legendary Generation V Pokémon to appear in an episode of the anime.
Origin
Alomomola appears to be a combination of an ocean sunfish and a heart. Due to its hand-like fins and heart shaped body, it may have been inspired by the Claddagh ring. Its ability to heal other Pokémon may be inspired by the doctor fish. The fact that it wraps itself in a special membrane might be a reference to a parrotfish.
Name origin
Alomomola is a combination of Mola mola (scientific name for the ocean sunfish) and mom (referring to its status as the Caring Pokémon). It may also refer to aloha, Hawaiian for love/affection, referenced by Alomomola's heart-like shape and the ocean sunfish's preference to tropical areas, such as Hawaii. Alomomola is a palindrome.
Mamanbou may be a combination of mama and 翻車魚 manbō (ocean sunfish).
