As revealed in SS011, Professor Sakuragi and his future wife Yoshino attended the same high school. After noticing that Yoshino wasn't drawing anymore, he encouraged her to continue pursuing her dreams to become a comic artist.

New series

Professor Sakuragi debuted in a fantasy in SS001. He physically debuted in SS002 during the opening ceremony of Sakuragi Institute, where he explained his goal of studying everything about Pokémon to better understand them and the world itself. During his speech, Sakuragi received an alert of changes in the atmosphere, leading him to predict the appearance of a rare Pokémon at the Vermilion harbor.

Later, he was impressed after hearing Ash and Go's findings after their encounter with the rare Pokémon, Lugia, and offered the two to become research fellows at his lab, which they accepted. Afterwards, Sakuragi offered Go to choose one of the Kanto starter Pokémon, but Go declined, wanting to make Mew his first Pokémon instead.

In SS003, Sakuragi gave Ash a smartphone before releasing his two Rotom from their Poké Balls. The Rotom proceeded to enter Ash and Go's smartphones, turning them into Rotom Phones. Since then, Sakuragi has been sending Ash and Go on various missions around the Pokémon world.

In SS020, Sakuragi accompanies some children during the Pokémon Orienteering competition, where he competed against a time led by Koharu and Go and another led by Ash. At the end of the day, his time becomes the winner of the competition when you arrive before the agreed location, at the end of the day, however, he encourages all participants to pursue their respective dreams.

Character

Professor Sakuragi is a calm, but friendly person. He is very knowledgeable about Pokémon, being deemed a genius since he was young. He is also exceptionally enthusiastic when it comes to studying Pokémon. Sometimes, he gets so carried away that it embarrasses his daughter, prompting her to rein him in.
