Crobat (Japanese: クロバット Crobat) is a Poison/Flying-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Crobat has a purple body as opposed to being blue, like its pre-evolutions. Crobat has a stubby pair of feet and has developed a second pair of wings. Crobat's eyes are yellow with red pupils.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Crobat's extra pair of wings allow it to fly much faster than its predecessors. Crobat's wings have also developed a more powerful cutting edge for using Cross Poison and X-Scissor.

Like most fully evolved Pokémon, Crobat can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior

Habitat

Crobat is a cave-dwelling Pokémon, however it is likely that they flutter outside during the night.

Diet

In the anime

File:Brock crobat.jpg
Brock's Crobat

Brock had a Crobat that he originally caught as a Zubat. He eventually gave it to his brother Forrest.

Several Crobat appeared in DP071, employed by the followers of the malicious Hunter J.

In the manga

Pokémon Special

In Template:PSV, Janine uses a Crobat to fight Suicune, but even her best ninja-based skills fail to defeat the legendary Water-type.

Giovanni is later seen with a Crobat in Template:PSV, presumably picked up during his solo training journey.

In the TCG

Main article: Crobat (TCG)

Other appearances

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Crobat only appears as a random trophy.

Trophy information

A Bat Pokémon that evolves from Golbat, Crobat's hind legs have evolved into a second pair of wings, which allows it to fly at great speeds but limits its ability to rest. The affection a Golbat has for its trainer is vital for the evolution process: if a novice trainer has a Crobat, it shows that he or she cares for Pokémon well.

Generation II
Gold It flies so silently through the dark on its four wings that it may not be noticed even when nearby.
Silver The development of wings on its legs enables it to fly fast but also makes it tough to stop and rest.
Crystal As a result of its pursuit of faster, yet more silent flight, a new set of wings grew on its hindlegs.
Stadium 2 It flies so silently through the dark on its four wings that it may not be noticed even when nearby.
Generation III
Ruby If this Pokémon is flying by fluttering only a pair of wings on either the forelegs or hind legs, it's proof that Crobat has been flying a long distance. It switches the wings it uses if it is tired.
Sapphire Crobat sneaks up on its intended prey using wings that barely make a sound. This Pokémon rests by hanging on a tree branch with its rear legs that serve as wings.
Emerald Over the course of evolution, its hind legs turned into wings. By alternately resting its front and rear wings, it can fly all day without having to stop.
FireRed The development of wings on its legs enables it to fly fast but also makes it tough to stop and rest.
LeafGreen It flies so silently through the dark on its four wings that it may not be noticed even when nearby.
Generation IV
Diamond Having four wings enables it to fly faster and more quietly. It turns active when the night comes.
Pearl A Pokémon that gained vastly enhanced flying performance by having its legs turn into wings.

Trivia

  • Despite the fact that the Pokédex information says that Crobat's rear legs and rear wings are the same body part, Crobat clearly has a set of feet and legs distinct from its hind wings depicted in the rear sprites in Generation III, as well as in the anime, TCG, and 3D games. However, the footprint in the Pokédex for Crobat is blank.
  • Since its debut in Generation II, Crobat has been in all regional Pokédexes.
  • To date, every villainous team in the main series of games have had at least one of their members use Crobat and/or one its evolutionary family.
  • Since its debut in Generation II, its color scheme is Golbat's color scheme inverted(including its Shiny variation).

Origin

Crobat is, obviously, based on a bat.

Name origin

Crobat's name is a combination of cross and bat. It may also be a combination of 黒 kuro, black, and English bat.

In other languages

  • German: Iksbat
  • French: Nostenfer - It seems to imply Nightly Hell, nost for nocturne, or it could just be a corruption of Nosferatu just like its previous forms.
  • Korean: 크로뱃 Keurobaet
