Dragon Tail (Japanese: ドラゴンテール Dragon Tail) is a damage-dealing Dragon-type move introduced in Generation V. It is TM82 as of Generation V.

Effect

Dragon Tail inflicts damage. Additionally, it will automatically end wild Pokémon battles or, in a Trainer battle, it will switch out the opposing Pokémon to the next Pokémon in line that has not fainted. Like Roar and Whirlwind, Dragon Tail also has decreased priority.

Dragon Tail will fail to end wild Pokémon battles or switch out the opposing Trainer's Pokémon if it has the Ability Suction Cups, is under the effects of Ingrain, or has Substitute set up. It will also fail to end wild Pokémon battles if the user is at a lower level than the foe. In a Trainer battle, it will fail to switch out the opposing Pokémon if there isn't another to take its place.

Description

Games Description The user knocks away the target and drags out another Pokémon in its party. In the wild, the battle ends. The target is knocked away and switched. In the wild, a battle against a single Pokémon ends. Conq The user knocks away the target, causing it to be switched out for a different Pokémon. The target is knocked away, and a different Pokémon is dragged out. In the wild, this ends a battle against a single Pokémon.

• Dragon Tail's effect of forcing the opponent to switch has never been featured in the anime. This can be due to the fact that it has only been used in one-on-one battles or on a Trainer's last Pokémon.
