Numel (Japanese: ドンメル Donmel) is a dual-type Fire/Ground Pokémon.

It evolves into Camerupt starting at level 33.

Biology

Physiology

Numel looks like a yellow Dromedary camel with a volcano-like hump on its back, bangs on top of its head, and sleepy eyes. The hump is green at the very top and fades out into yellow with small green spots. The hump also contains magma of almost 2,200°F (1,200°C). Numel has short, stubby legs.

Gender differences

A female Numel has a bigger hump than a male.

Special abilities

Numel is a very strong Pokémon, having served humans for many years with its ability to carry heavy loads. This trait is especially useful because of its numbness to pain, making it efficient as well.

Behavior

Numel is a very simple-minded Pokémon; this explains its two abilities, Oblivious and Simple. It is known not to react to the hardest of hits, but will always react if it is hungry.

In the anime

Numel in the anime

Numel first appeared in Game Winning Assist!. Ash and his friends found a meadow full of these Numb Pokémon and Team Rocket wanted to steal them.

James from Team Rocket once told of how his grandfather bought him some Numel to keep warm in the winter.

Pokédex entries

Episode Pokémon Source Entry
AG053 Numel Ash's Pokédex Numel, the Numb Pokémon. Numel is so complacent that it does not even notice when it is stuck. This Pokémon's body is filled with hot magma, which, when cooled in water, rather slows its movement. Numel is also unable to bear hunger.

In the manga

A Numel appeared as one of the many Pokémon that grunts of Team Magma and Team Aqua sent out in the Seafloor Cavern in VS. Armaldo.

Ruby Numel is extremely dull witted - it doesn't notice being hit. However, it can't stand hunger for even a second. This Pokémon's body is a seething cauldron of boiling magma.
Sapphire Numel stores magma of almost 2,200 degrees F within its body. If it gets wet, the magma cools and hardens. In that event, the Pokémon's body grows heavy and its movements become sluggish.
Emerald A Numel stores boiling magma in the hump on its back. It is a hardy Pokémon that can transport a 220-pound load. It has served humans at work since long ago.
FireRed Magma of almost 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit courses through its body. When it grows cold, the magma hardens and slows it.
