A Policeman (Japanese: おまわりさん Policeman), known as an Officer in Generation II, is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation II games. They are police officers, with flashlights and baton, that only battle at night. It could be said that their counterpart is the Joggers, who can only be battled in the morning.
They specialize in using Growlithe in Generation II, a possible reference to the anime's Officer Jenny. In Generation IV they use a combination of Hoothoot and various Fighting-type Pokémon. In Black and White there is only one standard Policeman fight which uses Herdier. In the Battle Subway, they specialize in defensive Pokémon sets primarily relying on status ailments, and in the early stages, Fighting- and Steel-type Pokémon.
Although they weren't Trainers, they also appeared as guards to Saffron City and tried to arrest a Team Rocket Grunt in Vermilion City in Pokémon Red and Blue (replaced by Officer Jenny in Pokémon Yellow), and their remakes Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Another NPC by the name of Officer Johnson played a minor role in guarding the Cipher members that Duking arrested in Pokémon Colosseum.
