Males have one eyelash over each eye, mustache-like collars around their heads, no frills on their tentacles and a shorter crown on their heads.
Special abilities
It can absorb seawater then project it from its head.
Behavior
It moves forward by vigorously blowing out the seawater absorbed into its body.
Habitat
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Its favorite food is life energy.
- No Pokémon have the same type combination as Jellicent and its pre-evolution.
- Jellicent and its pre-evolution, along with Unfezant are the only Generation V Pokémon that have gender differences.
- They are also the only Pokémon, besides Nidoran, whose gender differences are visible in their minisprites.
- Even though Jellicent and its pre-evolution's species are the Floating Pokémon, they don't have the ability Levitate. This is even more notable due to the fact that Levitate's Japanese name is Floating.
Origin
Jellicent and its pre-evolution were most likely inspired by the Nurarihyon, a jellyfish youkai that is either shown as a demonized jellyfish or as a jellyfish-like man who wears refined, sometimes regal, clothing. It is also possible that they was inspired by the Kurage no Hinotama, a sort of jellyfish-like will-o'-the-wisp. Its design is inspired by the jellyfish, in particular the Crown Jellyfish, and monarch attire; the male form's appearance based on a king's while the female's is based on a queen's.
Name origin
Its name is likely a combination of ブルー burū, blue, and エンジェル enjeru, angel; reference to Sea angels.
