Spinarak is green, spider-like Pokémon. It has six yellow legs that each have a black stripe on them. The spots on Spinarak's abdomen resemble a face. The "face" on Spinarak's abdomen is actually capable of changing its expression to suit Spinarak's mood. Spinarak has a horn on its head and pink pincers.
The web spun by Spinarak can be considered its second nervous system. It is said that this Pokémon can determine what kind of prey is touching its web just by the tiny vibrations it feels through the web's strands.

Spinarak was colored dark purple in it's in-game sprites for Pokémon Gold & Silver. It's color was changed to green in Pokémon Crystal to suit it's official artwork.
Origin
In particular, Spinarak shares coloring and appearance with the Happy Face Spider, an arachnid from Hawaii that seems to have a face on its abdomen.
Japanese believe that a spider can ensnare careless travelers.
Name origin
Spinarak's name is a combination of spinneret, which is where a spider excretes silk, and arachnid. Itomaru could be a combination of 糸 ito, thread, and 丸 maru, common historical name suffix for boys. The French name comes from mignon, meaning cute, and mygale, meaning mygalomorphae. The German name comes from web and arachnid.
