Marley (Japanese: マイ Mai) is a Pokémon Trainer from Sinnoh. She is one of five Trainers who can join with the main character during an event in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. She first appears in a part of Victory Road only accessible after defeating the Elite Four.

Later, she can join the player in competition at Sinnoh's Battle Tower.

In the anime

Marley in the anime

Marley appeared in DP168. She was spotted unconscious floating down a river in a boat by Brock. He called out to her trying to warn her of an on coming waterfall. But she did not respond. He jumped in the river to stop the boat then used Happiny to pull them out of the water. Afterwards, Marley finally wakes up and introduces herself.

Because Brock saved her, Marley asks him to escort her to a flower field. Ash and friends eventually discovered that Marley was harboring an injured Shaymin. She explains that she was approached by Shaymin because it was being attacked by a trio of thugs who wanted to take Shaymin.

Marley eventually gets to the flower field that has Gracideas and Shaymin is about to transform in to its Sky Forme. There it defeats Team Rocket and is reunited with its friends. Marley then bids Shaymin farewell.

		When Marley was first attacked by Team Rocket she was able to use her Arcanine to send them blasting off, and later used Arcanine to escape when she was confronted by them again. Arcanine's only known move is Flamethrower.

Befriended

		Shaymin
		Marley befriended and sheltered Shaymin when it was attacked by Team Rocket while traveling to a flower field to reunite with its friends. After meeting up with Ash and friends, Shaymin finally made it to the flower field and after making it to some hard-to-reach Gracideas transformed into its Sky Forme and sent Team Rocket blasting off. However the attack by Team Rocket had destroyed the Gracidea flowers and the ice that had been created to fend off Team Rocket forced Shaymin to transform back into Land Forme. All looked lost until Shaymin's friends arrived and some Gracidea flowers bloomed allowing Shaymin to transform again. After saying a fond farewell to Marley, Shaymin left with its friends. Shaymin's known moves are Seed Flare, Aromatherapy and Air Slash.

Marley first appeared in the Battleground fighting against Buck in a battle with an undecided winner as Buck soon ran off. Later on, after Buck was defeated at Stark Mountain, she appeared, watching over him, as he healed up and was seen with Oak's Letter.

• Marley's outfit is based on the Japanese gothic lolita style.
• Marley appears to have an interest in Shaymin, and often refers to it when the player speaks to her. She is also involved in the event to catch Shaymin.
  • Her anime appearance is also in an episode featuring Shaymin.
• Marley is the only one of the stat Trainers to not use at least one legendary Pokémon in the Battle Tower in Diamond and Pearl. This changes in Platinum, as she has a Raikou.
