In the anime

Combusken first appeared in AG034. The Nurse Joy of Slateport City was keeping a Torchic, Treecko and Mudkip for a girl who was going to start being a Pokémon trainer. The Torchic evolved and had to be hidden. After the Combusken saved a Wailord, Nurse Joy decided to keep it as gaurd for her Pokémon Center.

May has a Combusken that she obtained as a Torchic in Get the Show on the Road!. It evolved in A Shroomish Skirmish.

Trivia

Origin

Name origin

Combusken's name is a combination of combustible, able to burn, and chicken. Its Japanese name is a combination of 若鶏 wakadori, young chicken, and 軍鶏 shamo, a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting.

Combusken is probably based on a cockfighting chicken.
